A war between humans and machines. You're sure to say: "I've seen this before. And yes, although there are elements in the story of this film that may have been used before, it deserves to swell the audience of this long-awaited film from last year. Please let me give you my take on this production.

SYNOPSIS

In 2070, the Western world is immersed in a fierce war against the artificial intelligence that is blamed for a nuclear explosion in the city of Los Angeles five years ago. A special agency is tracking the way to find the main architect, called "Nirmata", who it is believed that destroying him will put an end to the machines. To do so, they use Joshua Taylor (John David Washington), who rejoins the team almost out of obligation.

The story will unfold in the middle of a continent devastated by the conflict, and where there has not been much confrontation, it will be noticed that it is in full war and life is not the same. Each side will have humans who defend their position actively supporting those who carry out the actions.

A MORE HUMANIZED APPROACH.

Although undoubtedly the machines are presented to you as the enemy, the way they interact, express themselves and gradually reveal their intentions and interactions with humans, try to show you a more sensitive and humanized side. It is made even clearer by the fact that in that world you can donate your face, your physical characteristics to a machine, and thus make them even more similar to a real human. And if you still have any doubts, the fact that this powerful weapon has acquired the form of a girl will make it clear to you. That's not a spoiler! It's in the trailer.

The introduction of the movie refers to the beginnings of artificial intelligence and robotics, where the purpose was for them to be helpers, complements, servants of humans. That idea will remain in the background, as a shadow during the development of the story, showing if that goal is still the same in the machines.

AN IMPECCABLE PRESENTATION

To make this story believable, you have to make very few visual mistakes, and sell you the idea that this world exists, and that you are not distracted by the details in the sets, machines, sequences, etc. And all this has been more than achieved by its director Gareth Edwards, who has preferred filming in real sets and locations to filming in a studio with a green background. You can even try to detail the mutilated body of the protagonist and be unable to find mistakes in the sequences, no matter how advanced your TV set is.

Although some may object that the protagonist did not give a great performance, and that perhaps he could have been a little more eloquent or dramatic, come on guys, he was supposed to be a man of war who copes with the loss of his family in a sudden and unexpected source. That makes him feel unmotivated to go on alone and he even feels some indifference to the conflict that is still going on. I don't expect that man to be the most expressive in the world.

SOME DETAILS

We often find that productions of this kind carry with them some social or other criticism that makes them realistic and somewhat controversial. I think there are some here, for example, the never-ending "difference of opinion between continents", where it seems to be enough a discrepancy of thought to become enemies and explode into a war, literally speaking. In this case it is about the use or not of artificial intelligence. In real life there are endless issues.

The love story of the protagonist unfolds well against the backdrop of the war. This resource is not abused making you forget about the larger, main story. There will always be moments that cross over and that makes the sequences more natural. Still, there is a theme of letting go of the people we love. Cliché? Obviously Joshua hasn't let go, but he will continue to have opportunities.

I think it's still a challenge to learn the names of each side, the ships, the places, the people... since it's a new world, created for this film and without giving much background, we are involved in the story all at once. At least for me, I would have liked those explanations a little more didactic where almost with a projection they show you the ship and say: "This is called Nomad". Next graphic: "This is Nirmata". But well, maybe I was a little scattered that afternoon.

The creepiest thing I can say about the movie is what they can do with people who have just died and their memories. I think if that existed it would change a lot of things in the world. What I found funniest was Alphie's sense of humor, who learns like a child, albeit more quickly, but leaving in evidence that she is a machine at heart, where it seems like the commands were more literal with little understanding of idioms.

MY OPINION

I do recommend it. I think it has a good balance between action sequences and those where we need to pay attention to the words. We don't have sequences of run, shoot, hide, run, run, stop, run again, run harder, stop, run... that one is sitting but you feel exhausted. Nor does it have those long dialogues with unnecessary details about the characters' backgrounds, with boring flashbacks that are beside the point. I think there are its well-balanced action scenes and lulls.

As familiar as this story may seem to us we can enjoy it. I'm not much attracted to movies about machines anymore, but maybe this one did a good job with the marketing. And seeing the editing result, the world design, the futuristic concept and the sound is well worth it.

And we come to the part where I give my opinion: the top 3 phrases. They are here because they are well designed, that make you think, that you remember as time goes by, either because they are authentic, truthful, profound, original, controversial, vile lies or because they are key to understand the movie. Here they are... BANG!

" We are equal. We cannot go to heaven " (Alphie).

I saw The Creator in two 2024 Oscar nominations, for Best Sound and Best Visual Effects. It has very good competition in those categories, but you can already be proud of having caught the attention of the film world for those aspects. Maybe you've seen it, what's your opinion? Una guerra entre humanos y máquinas. De seguro dirás: "Ya esto lo he visto". Y sí, aunque hay elementos en la historia de éste film que pueden haber sido usado antes, merece que engrosemos la audiencia de ésta esperada película del año pasado. Por favor, deja que te dé mi opinión sobre ésta producción.

SINOPSIS

En 2070, el mundo occidental está sumergido en una encarnizada guerra contra la inteligencia artificial quien se le atribuye una explosión nuclear en la ciudad de Los Ángeles hace cinco años atrás. Una agencia especial hace seguimiento de la forma de encontrar al arquitecto principal, llamado "Nirmata", de quien se cree que al destruirlo se acabará con las máquinas. Para ello se valen de Joshua Taylor (John David Washington), quien se une de nuevo a éste equipo casi por obligación.

La historia se desarrollará en medio de un continente devastado por el conflicto, y donde no ha habido tanto enfrentamiento, se notará que se está en plena guerra y la vida no es la misma. Cada bando contará con humanos que defienden su postura apoyando de forma activa a quienes llevan a cabo las acciones.

UN ENFOQUE MÁS HUMANIZADO.

Aunque indudablemente las máquinas se te presentan como el enemigo, la forma en que interactúan, se expresan y poco a poco se van revelando sus intenciones y interacciones con los humanos, tratan de mostrarte un lado más sensible y humanizado. Lo deja aún más claro el hecho de que en ese mundo puedes donarle tu rostro, tus características físicas a una máquina, y de esa forma hacerlas aún más parecidas a un humano verdadero. Y si aún tienes dudas, el hecho de que ésta arma poderosa haya adquirido la forma de una niña te lo dejará bien claro. ¡No es spoiler! Sale en el trailer.

La introducción de la película hace referencia a los inicios de la inteligencia artificial y la robótica, donde el fin era que fueran ayudantes, complementos, servidores de los humanos. Esa idea seguirá estando en segundo plano, como una sombre durante el desarrollo de la historia, mostrando si de verdad ese objetivo sigue siendo el mismo en las máquinas.

UNA PRESENTACIÓN IMPECABLE

Para hacer creíble ésta historia tiene que cometerse muy pocos errores visuales, y venderte bien la idea de que ese mundo existe, y que no te distraigan los detalles en los escenarios, las máquinas, las secuencias, etc. Y todo esto lo ha logrado con creces su director Gareth Edwards, quien ha preferido las grabaciones en sets y locaciones reales que a filmar en un estudio con fondo verde. Puedes intentar hasta detallar el cuerpo mutilado del protagonista y ser incapaz de encontrar errores en las secuencias, por muy avanzado que sea tu televisor.

Aunque algunos objeten de que el protagonista no hizo una gran actuación, y que quizás pudo ser algo más elocuente o dramático, vamos muchachos, se supone que era un hombre de guerra que sobrelleva la pérdida de su familia de una manera repentina y de fuente inesperada. Eso lo hace sentirse desmotivado por seguir solo e incluso siente algo de indiferencia con el conflicto que sigue llevándose a cabo. Yo no espero que ese hombre sea el más expresivo del mundo.

ALGUNOS DETALLES

Con frecuencia encontramos que producciones de ésta clase llevan consigo algo de crítica social o de otra índole que los hace realistas y algo polémicas. Creo que aquí se presentan algunos, como por ejemplo, la interminable "diferencia de opinión entre continentes", donde parece ser suficiente una discrepancia de pensamiento para convertirse en enemigos y estallar en una guerra, literalmente hablando. En éste caso es en cuanto al uso o no de la inteligencia artificial. En la vida real hay un sinfín de temas.

La historia de amor del protagonista se desenvuelve bien con el conflicto bélico como telón de fondo. No se abusa de éste recurso haciendo que te olvides de la historia más grande y principal. Siempre habrá momentos que se crucen y eso hace que sea más natural las secuencias. Igual, hay un tema de dejar ir a las personas que amamos. ¿Cliché? Evidentemente Joshua no ha soltado, pero seguirá teniendo oportunidades.

Creo que sigue siendo un reto aprenderse los nombres de cada bando, las naves, los lugares, las personas... en vista que de que es mundo nuevo, creado para éste film y sin dar muchos antecedentes se nos involucra de una vez en la historia. Al menos para mi, me hubiese gustado esas explicaciones un poco más didácticas donde casi con una proyección te muestran la nave y dicen: "Esto se llama Nomad". Siguiente gráfica: "Este es Nirmata". Pero bueno, quizás estaba algo disperso esa tarde.

Lo más espeluznante que puedo decir de la película es lo que pueden hacer con las personas que acaban de morir y sus recuerdos. Creo que si eso existieran cambiaran muchas cosas en el mundo. Lo que más gracioso me resultó fue el sentido del humor de Alphie, quien aprende como una niña, aunque más rápidamente, pero dejando en evidencia de que en el fondo es una máquina, donde parece que los comandos fueran más literales con poco entendimiento de los modismos.

MI OPINIÓN

Sí la recomiendo. Creo que tiene un buen balance entre las secuencias de acción y las que necesitamos prestar atención a las palabras. No tenemos secuencias de corre, dispara, escóndete, corre, detente, corre otra vez, corre más fuerte, alto, corre... que uno está sentado pero te sientes agotado. Ni tampoco tiene esos diálogos largos con detalles innecesarios sobre los antecedentes de los personajes, con aburridos flashbacks que no vienen al caso. Creo que hay sus escenas de acción y calma bien equilibrados.

Por más conocida que nos parezca esta historia podemos disfrutarla. Ya no me atraen mucho las películas sobre máquinas, pero quizás en ésta se hizo un buen trabajo con el marketing. Y ver el resultado de la edición, el diseño del mundo, el concepto futurista y el sonido bien vale la pena.

Y llegamos a la parte donde doy mi opinión: el top 3 de frases. Están aquí por ser bien diseñadas, que te hacen pensar, que recuerdas al pasar el tiempo, bien sea por ser autenticas, veraces, profundas, originales, controversiales, viles mentiras o porque son clave para entender la película. Aquí están... ¡PUM!

The Creator la vi en dos nominaciones al Oscar 2024, como mejor sonido y mejores efectos visuales. Tiene muy buena competencia en esos renglones, pero ya pueden estar orgullosos de haber llamado la atención del mundo cinematográfico por esos aspectos. Tal vez la hayas visto. ¿Cuál es tu opinión?
