REVIEW: Vivo (2021)
We've heard the idea of traveling from Havana to Miami before, and for different reasons. But in this animated production the reason will be like few others. And that is the main reason to see this movie. Today I want to bring you my opinion about it and what points I consider that didn't convince me and what audience I think would mainly enjoy it.
SYNOPSIS
A musically inclined kinkajou named Vivo sadly watches as his human musical companion, Andres, falls asleep in death shortly after being reunited with his true love from his youth: Marta Sandoval, a successful singer who began her career with Andres in Havana, Cuba. However, he decides to carry out one of his master's wishes: to give her a love song he had composed declaring his love for her and never delivered it to her. This will involve a trip from the beautiful island to the city of Miami, where Marta will present her show that will mark her retirement from the world of music.
The story seeks to explain to you the noble motives of the trip from the beginning. The trip will be extremely fast, at least in the film. But the most cumbersome thing will be to move from the mainland to the place of Marta's show and in the scheduled time. There we will see chases in vehicles (not necessarily with engines), characters that will help, others that don't seem to help, and unforeseen situations that will threaten Vivo's interests.
A COLORFUL AND AESTHETIC APPEARANCE
The animation is impeccable and of very good quality. In fact, they have the luxury of alternating between 3D and 2D animation, landing on their feet in both. In fact, we expected no less from the studio that has recently brought deliveries of the arachnid superhero in 2D format and dazzling with very vivid color palettes.
The music has a lot of merit, because the instruments bring a sound very consistent with the story. It can be seen that they took great care of this aspect, since this production is framed in the musical genre. In this aspect is what stands out, because as for the lyrics, I did not find them so strong or outstanding.
The setting and the details of one city and another is also well done. For those of us who have not visited Havana and have seen it from the inside, it was easy to recognize that the story was taking place there, with the cars, the people's clothes, and even the furniture and colors of Andres' house. In fact, the sharpness and coloring made us feel more at home in this familiar place.
IT IS CORRECT, BUT IT LACKS.
The themes it covers are common in animated films but were worked to a certain extent, to the point of making them memorable. There is a theme of Vivo and Gabi's duel, but it doesn't entirely move you. There is a theme of adventure and journey, but it progresses without any glory. I understand that maybe because it is a musical they don't want to squeeze these aspects, but every time they are approached there is usually a lack of taste in the mouth, and I think that hurts it.
The characters were also created but without being memorable. For example, in a passage through the jungle, they find a bird that may have been intended to save the humorous part, but it disappears before it can steal a genuine laugh. For their part, the girl scouts seem like they're the villains, but you can actually come to sympathize with them because of the quirky interaction between them and how they work as a team. I'm not sure if that should happen. I think the best character was Gabi's mother, since many Latino households have had a mother like that, the way she talks, the way she acts, the way she scolds, the way she hugs....
Finally, Gabi's presentation was somewhat disconcerting. Sometimes time is spent getting to know the character that will accompany us throughout the production. But I think this one was a bit messy. She likes music, and although she doesn't do it that well more instruments come to her. He seems to do as he pleases but keeps trying to get what he wants by dint of tantrums and bribes. He likes this kinkajou, but we are clearly shown a pet cemetery in his own room! I don't know, I don't know... I don't know if these were wise decisions to introduce you to someone, since it may condition your enjoyment of the film.
MY OPINION.
It is a well done production. A peculiar musical sound well achieved. An impeccable animation. I think the ones who will enjoy it the most are the little ones in the house, the children who surely will not be so demanding with the details we have mentioned above. Despite having a good story, they didn't manage to take full advantage of it. Do I recommend it? Only if you're a kid, because we adults will surely expect something else.
I think the most legitimate reminder I take away from the production is to express our love and affection to people whenever we can, because if the day comes when they are gone we will regret it too much. It is a very heavy feeling that can make our lives change. That happened to Andres and Marta, and maybe their lives would have been different if they had. That's why we have to keep looking for those moments to be with those we love and tell them how much we love them. If you composed a song, sing it to them. If you made a craft, bring it to them. If you drew them a picture, show it to them. If you think it's cool, tell them. If we're still struggling with that, we're sure to have a similar journey: off our island to the safe and secure land of true love and affection.
La idea de viajar de La Habana a Miami ya la hemos escuchado, y por diferentes razones. Pero en ésta producción animada la razón será como pocas. Y esa es la principal razón para ver ésta película. Hoy quiero traerles mi opinión sobre ella y qué puntos considero que no me llegaron a convencer y qué público principalmente creo que la disfrutaría.
SINOPSIS
Un kinkajú con inclinación musical llamado Vivo ve con tristeza cómo su compañero musical humano, Andrés, se duerme en la muerte a muy poco de reencontrarse con su verdadero amor de su juventud: Marta Sandoval, una exitosa cantante que inició su carrera junto con Andrés en La Habana, Cuba. Sin embargo, él decide llevar a cabo uno de los deseos de su amo: entregarle una canción de amor que le había compuesto declarándole su amor y nunca se la entregó. Eso implicará de que viaje desde la hermosa isla a la ciudad de Miami, donde Marta presentará su espectáculo que marcará su retiro del mundo de la música.
La historia busca explicarte los nobles motivos del viaje desde un comienzo. El viaje será sumamente rápido, al menos en el film. Pero lo más engorroso será trasladarse desde tierra firme hasta el lugar del show de Marta y en el tiempo previsto. Allí veremos persecución en vehículos (no necesariamente con motor), personajes que ayudarán, otros que no parecen hacerlo, y situaciones imprevistas que atentarán contra los intereses de Vivo.
UNA APARIENCIA COLORIDA Y ESTÉTICA
La animación es impecable y de muy buena calidad. De hecho, se dan el lujo de alternar entre la animación en 3D y la 2D, cayendo de pie en ambas. De hecho, no esperábamos menos del estudio que ha traído recientemente entregas del superhéroe arácnido en formato 2D y deslumbrando con paletas de colores muy vivas.
La música tiene mucho mérito, porque los instrumentos traen un sonido muy acorde con la historia. Se ve que cuidaron mucho éste aspecto, siendo que ésta producción está enmarcada en el género de musicales. En este aspecto es lo que destaco, porque en cuanto a las letras, no me parecieron tan fuerte ni sobresalientes.
La ambientación y los detalles de una ciudad y otra también está bien logrado. Para quienes no hemos visitado La Habana y la hemos visto desde adentro, fue fácil reconocer que la historia se desarrollaba en ese lugar, con los carros, la ropa de las personas, e incluso el mobiliario y los colores de la casa de Andrés. Incluso, la nitidez y el colorido hace que nos sintamos más a gusto en éste conocido lugar.
ES CORRECTO, PERO LE FALTA
Los temas que abarca son comunes en las películas animadas pero fueron trabajados hasta cierta medida, al punto de hacerlos memorables. Hay un tema de duelo de Vivo y Gabi, pero no llegan a conmoverte enteramente. Hay un tema de aventura y travesía, pero avanza sin pena ni gloria. Entiendo que quizás por ser un musical no quieran exprimir éstos aspectos, pero cada vez que se abordan suele quedar un sinsabor de boca, y eso creo que le perjudica.
Los personajes también fueron creados pero sin ser memorables. Por ejemplo, en un paso por la selva, encuentran a un ave que tal vez tuvo la intención de salvar la parte humorística, pero desaparece antes de que pueda robarnos una carcajada genuina. Por su parte, las niñas exploradoras parecen que son las villanas, pero en realidad pueden llegar a simpatizarte por la peculiar interacción entre ellas y cómo trabajan en equipo. No estoy seguro si eso debería de pasar. Creo que el mejor personaje fue la madre de Gabi, puesto que muchos hogares latinos han tenido una madre como esa, a la forma de hablar, de actuar, de regañar, de abrazar...
Finalmente, fue algo desconcertante la presentación de Gabi. A veces se le dedica tiempo a que conozcamos al personaje que nos acompañará en toda la producción. Pero creo que ésta fue algo desordenada. Le gusta la música, y aunque no lo hace tan bien le llegan más instrumentos. Parece hacer lo que le plazca pero sigue tratando de alcanzar lo que desea a fuerza de berrinches y sobornos. Le gusta éste kinkajú, pero nos muestran a todas luces ¡un cementerio de mascotas en su propia habitación! No sé, no sé... no sé si fueron decisiones acertadas para presentarte a alguien, puesto que puede condicionar el disfrute del film.
MI OPINIÓN
Es una producción bien hecha. Un sonido musical peculiar bien logrado. Una animación impecable. Creo que quienes más la disfrutarán son los pequeños de la casa, los niños que de seguro no serán tan exigentes con los detalles que hemos mencionado anteriormente. A pesar de tener una buena historia, no lograron aprovecharla enteramente. ¿La recomiendo? Sólo si eres un niño, porque los adultos de seguro esperaremos algo más.
Creo que el recordatorio más legítimo que extraigo de la producción es que hay que expresar nuestro amor y cariño a las personas siempre que podamos, porque si llega el día en el que ya no están lo lamentaremos demasiado. Es un sentimiento muy pesado que puede hacer que nuestra vida cambie. Eso le pasó a Andrés y Marta, y puede que sus vidas hubiesen sido diferente si lo hubiesen hecho. Por eso hay que seguir buscando esos momentos para estar con quienes amamos y decirles cuánto los queremos. Si le compones una canción, cántasela. Si le hiciste una manualidad, llévasela. Si le dibujaste algo, muéstraselo. Si piensas que es genial, díselo. Si aún tenemos dificultades con eso, seguro nos tocará una travesía similar: salir de nuestra isla a la tierra firme y segura del amor y el cariño verdadero.
