Ayinla - A Musical Movie Review.
As directed by Tunde Kelani, the movie Ayinla, a musical film based on the biography of Ayinla Omowura, a late Nigerian musician who was killed by his manager, Bayewu.
Ayinla, the movie, starring actors like Lateef Adedimeji, Omowumi Dada, Kunle Afolayan and others who did justice to the movie by making it a remarkable one.
I think the 1hour and 50minutes I spent watching the movie was worth it. This movie is one that captures the life of a local artiste who eventually had the opportunity to go to London but guess what, he never stepped his feet in London before he died just because he didn’t heed to warning and was too proud.
This is something that happens in our world. Once we see that we’re getting close to our dreams, we tend to misbehave. That’s why so many people change their ways after they make money. So, this is a common and well known issue.
PLOT SUMMARY
Ayinla, the rival of Barrister is a quick tempered Apala musician. He was very famous in the whole of Abeokuta. He isn’t just quick tempered but promiscuous too and doesn’t mind if he will snatch his friend’s wife.
At the peak of his career, Ayinla met Ajala, a show promoter who offers to take him to London for a musical tour alongside his band members and then, his pride and promiscuity got to its peak too.
While the tour planning was going well, Ayinla and Bayewu became enemies as he snatched Bayewu’s girlfriend which led to a fight in one of the local bars in Nigeria and Bayewu stabbed Ayinla which was the end of his life and career. Unfortunately, Ayinla never got to step his feet in London.
MY THOUGHTS AND OPINION
All through, I was busy admiring Lateef Adedimeji, the one who played Ayinla. He played the role like he was the real Ayinla life. The dialect, stature, ways of walking and everything was so perfect.
He used the idea of method acting in that movie which made us feel like he owns the real name especially for someone who never knew it was a real story of someone.
All of the actors did a fantastic job. They all played their roles like the owned it. Also, they were able to achieve the greatest part of the job which was speaking the Egba dialect. That was difficult but they did it.
I like the music scenes. I love the scenes where Ayinla was invited to perform for royalties and that gave an insight to how royalties have their events in Yoruba land.
I think I need to talk about the dress code too. It portrays fully the lifestyle of Yoruba people. The dress code is the typical way Yoruba people dress and how they live their lives is also portrayed in the movie.
I think we should also talk about the scene where Ajala invited Ayinla and talked about his upcoming tour in London. That was everything. This happens in real life when your helper comes unexpectedly especially when you never thought you will travel outside the walls of your country.
How about hearing that youf favorite artiste is late? I mean, that time when Bayewu killed the greatest Apala musician and left his fans mourning. That wasn’t just it but for someone who was at the peak of his career.
Truly, I enjoyed watching this movie and it showed me our olden days Nigeria even when I was not born. I won’t forget to hail Lateef Adedimeji who played the role of Ayinla, for the second time.
The picture quality, sound, location of the movie was so perfect.
I’ll give this movie a 9/10 rating because it is worth it. Big ups to the crew.
