Cine TV Contest: Gangs Of Lagos Full Movie Review.
I was never a fan of fighting movies majorly because of bloodshed but my mentality changed after watching one. Right now, out of ten movies which I will watch, eight of them has to be fighting or action movies and there is a particular fighting movie that was made to look so real which is now my favorite fighting movie.
All my words and hype goes to Gangs of Lagos, my favorite fighting movie of all time. Well, there may be more interesting fighting movies but I love how this movie portrays the real Lagos life where I live in and how politics work here.
Gangs of Lagos is a Nigerian politics based movie which portrays on the ills of the Lagos society with street gangsters who are the fighters who fought so hard for any position that they want to maintain.
Story Plot
Obalola, the child of the previous Eleniyan(head of community) in Isale Eko part of Lagos sees his father shot by some Eyo masquerade. Obalola became smart like his late father and Nino, his father’s friend and Obalola’s godfather observes how smart he is and houses Obalola.
He gives Obalola the basic education every child needs and he was living a good life for the first time since he lost his father.
Sadly for Obalola, Nino was killed on the election morning which left Obalola hopeless about education and life and since then, the fight started.
The new Eleniyan who killed Obalola’s father years ago is now his new boss.
How can you be unknowingly working for the person who killed your father? And how do you think Obalola would feel if he finds out that his boss was the one who killed his father so many years ago. Then, the fight started.
Obalola fought with all he had. He fought all his life. The fights were bloody with heavy bloodshed. I felt it.
The movie isn’t just about fights but very emotional.
Are there scenes I love in this movie
Let’s talk about Obalola and Teni. They were childhood friends who got separated ever since Teni traveled outside Nigeria but the two young ones are still very much in love.
How can you fall in love with the daughter of whom killed your father?
I liked that scene where Obalola revealed his pains to Teni and how he can’t live his dream life. It was hurtful and if reflects on so many brilliant and bright kids on the street who were denied their right to education and good life.
That scene was hurtful and got my eye teary.
What do I like about the movie?
I love how it portrays the real Lagos politics. There are no two ways about it. This is exactly how and what politics here in Lagos looks like.
It also portrays lives of so many people who feel hopeless because they are not educated.
What’s my opinion and review?
It’s a great movie. Truly, it is a fighting movie but that’s not the only thing you can spot out of the movie. I also liked how the fights looked real. Some people who died in the movie looked like they were truly dead.
Even those who engaged in fights acted it well like they were real fighters. I know movies are make beliefs but this looked more real than I thought.
I’ll love to give this movie 8/10 rating. It’s an amazing one but still not perfect. Well, I enjoyed every part of the movie and I can watch it all over again.
