Review La Révolution/ What I could be and wasn't
When talking or hearing about France I think the first thing that comes to our mind are the Eiffel Tower and the French Revolution, which inspired so many other deeds worldwide and is still a historical reference, series or movies that contain some history usually catch my attention, so while searching the ocean of Netflix content I stumbled upon:
The Revolution
Something I have not commented in previous posts is that I usually watch the trailer of a series or movie or at least read the synopsis to see if the plot raised manages to catch my attention, I leaned towards this series because the trailer showed me how they made a mix between the historical and the supernatural.
As its name indicates this series focuses on the French revolution, but includes here a supernatural element, the beginning of this series is bloody, we can see someone of the aristocracy running and behind this a child on horseback, this horse is bathed in blood, which impacts, This child that we presume is a commoner of those who participated in the revolution shoots this nobleman, he gets off his horse and when cutting the head of this nobleman the blood that flows from his wounds is blue, which becomes more noticeable, since this whole scene occurs in the middle of a snowfall and the nobleman falls next to the body of someone with red blood.
Now, what is the supernatural that this series includes, a different way of seeing what we could call zombies, everything originates with the death of a young girl and a doctor who is determined to investigate her murder, in order to save someone falsely accused and discovers a virus that he decides to call "blue blood" thus giving him a supposed idea of why the nobles were called so.
Similarly, this prelude to the French Revolution gives us a taste or sample of its causes, as the nobles saw the people as those who should only provide for them regardless of whether they were in misery, did not see their titles as something that besides giving them a name or status, included some responsibility to the people or those around them besides underestimating the commoners, there was an incredible inequality, mixed with despotism, there was no limit to the aristocracy.
As it usually happens, we see a love story in the midst of all this and at the same time, betrayal, ambition, contempt and much, much rawness, plus blood and brutal officials capable of anything.
But not everything can be good, unfortunately this series was canceled, so in my mind were left thousands of questions to answer about some interesting characters and how most likely explain later how this alleged virus originated or how it came to France because we are given to understand that it did not originate there.
In terms of costumes, scenography and muisca is excellent, the plot as I mentioned leaves some gaps that fill your mind with questions, which perhaps they thought to answer in the following seasons that will no longer exist, by the way this series is French and was produced by Netflix, its first and only season consists of 8 chapters,
In short, this first season left an audience wanting more, I think it would have been interesting to see what the rest of the seasons brought, there was a lot to give body and seasoning to the plot, intrigue, death, history, supernatural and even sprinkled with some horror, so we could say that it could have been, but it was not, as has already happened with some other series of this streaming platform.
On the other hand, we could call these blue bloods zombies, since after their death and subsequent transformation, which I will not tell you how it is achieved to leave some mystery, they begin to suffer from a continuous and uncontrolled hunger that can only be controlled if the transformed person has what we could call willpower, which also brings as a consequence that in some cases brings out their worst side in many cases.
Al hablar o escuchar de Francia creo que lo primero que viene a nuestra mente son la Torre Eiffel y la Revolución Francesa, la cual inspiro tantas otras gestas a nivel mundial y que todavía es una referencia histórica, las series o películas que contienen algo de historia suelen llamar mi atención, así mientras buscaba en el océano de contenido de Netflix me tope con:
La Revolución
Algo que no he comentado en anteriores publicaciones es que suelo ver el tráiler de una serie o película o al menos leer la sinopsis para ver si la trama planteada logra llamar mi atención, me incline por esta serie porque al tráiler me mostró como hicieron una mezcla entre lo histórico y lo sobrenatural.
Como su nombre lo señala esta serie se centra en la revolución francesa, pero incluye aquí un elemento sobrenatural, el comienzo de esta serie es sangriento, podemos ver a alguien de la aristocracia correr y detrás de este un niño a caballo, este caballo está bañado en sangre, lo que impacta, este niño que presumimos es algún plebeyo de los que participo en la revolución le dispara a este noble, baja de su caballo y al cortar la cabeza de este noble la sangre que brota de sus heridas es azul, lo que se hace más notorio, ya que toda esta escena ocurre en medio de una nevada y al noble cae junto al cuerpo de alguien con sangre roja.
Ahora bien, que es lo sobrenatural que incluyo esta serie, una manera diferente de ver lo que podríamos llamar zombis, todo se origina con la muerte de una jovencita y un médico que se empeña en investigar su asesinato, con el propósito de salvar a alguien acusado falsamente y descubre un virus al que decide llamar “sangre azul” dándole así una supuesta idea de porque se le llamaba así a los nobles.
Por otra parte, a estos sangre azul, les podríamos llamar zombis, ya que tras su muerte y posterior trasformación que no les diré como se logra para dejar algo de misterio, comienzan a sufrir de un hambre continua y descontrolada que solo logra controlarse si el trasformado posee lo que podríamos llamas fuerza de voluntad, lo que también trae como consecuencia que aflore en algunos su peor lado en muchos casos.
Del mismo modo, este preludio a la Revolución Francesa nos da una probada o muestra de sus causas, como los nobles veían al pueblo como quienes debían solo proveerles sin importar si estos estaban en la miseria, no veían sus títulos como algo que además de darles un nombre o estatus, incluía algo de responsabilidad hacia el pueblo o quienes les rodeaban además de subestimar a los plebeyos, había una desigualdad increíble, mezclada con despotismo, no había límite para la aristocracia
Como suele suceder, vemos una historia de amor en medio de todo esto y al mismo tiempo, traición, ambición, desprecio y mucha, pero mucha crudeza, además de sangre y funcionarios brutales capaces de todo.
Pero no todo puede ser bueno, lamentablemente esta serie fue cancelada, así que en mi mente quedaron miles de preguntas por responder sobre algunos personajes interesantes y de como muy probablemente explicarían más adelante como se originó este supuesto virus o como llego a Francia porque nos dan a entender que no se originó allí.
En cuanto a vestuario, escenográfica y muisca está excelente, la trama como mencione deja algunos huecos que te llenan la mente de preguntas, las cuales tal vez pensaban responder en las siguientes temporadas que ya no existirán, por cierto esta serie es francesa y fue producida por Netflix, su primera y única temporada consta de 8 capítulos,
En resumen, esta primera temporada dejo a un público con ganas de más, creo hubiera sido interesante ver que traían el resto de las temporadas, había mucho para darle cuerpo y sazón a la trama, de intriga, muerte, historia, sobrenatural y hasta salpicada de algo de terror, así que podríamos decir que pudo ser, pero no fue, como ha pasado ya con algunas otras series de esta plataforma streaming.

También me llama mucho la atención las series y películas de corte histórico y en especial las que tratan sobre La Segunda Guerra Mundial o la Revolución Francesa, y aunque también amo las películas de corte sobrenatural, debo confesar que los dos elementos mezclados no funcionan para mi, pero hay muchas personas a las que les puede llamar la atención, lamento que la hayan cancelado y que no pudieras enterarte de lo que sigue. Muy buen análisis.
