Review/ Percy Jackson and the Gods of Olympus
Watching content related to Greek mythology, is always interesting, we have all seen movies like Fury of Titans, either in its first version or the modern ones or the odyssey in different versions (movie or series), but only with the arrival of some more recent ones we see a mix of modern with Greek mythology, I recently learned about this series and wanted to see how similar or different it was from the movies of about 10 years ago or more.
Percy Jackson and the Gods of Olympus
First things first, I must admit I had a lot of doubts about what I would see, having seen the previous installments of this character in movies I didn't know what to expect and I didn't know either if they brought something different from what was already presented or it was a version of it, the same, worse or better.
For those who may not know, this series focuses on the life of a teenager named Percy Jackson, who has problems of different kinds such as, for example, being bullied by another classmate, not having more than one friend or an unbearable stepfather, attention deficit, among others, but through a series of events, this 12 year old boy discovers that he is the son of the Greek god of the seas Poseidon.
At the same time, he discovers that his uncle Zeus accuses him of having stolen his lightning and that he must return it before the summer solstice or a war will break out that will not only affect Olympus.
Now, this installment, besides being a series, has elements that are not present in the films that preceded it. The advantage is that, being a series, it can be developed much more in every aspect.
On the other hand, both the previous movies and this series are based on a series of five novels of the same name, whose author is Rick Riordan, now, what did I like and what not of this series.
Here the characters are young people who really look the age attributed to them, that is a point in their favor, on the other hand, we see many more characters in terms of beings, creatures, places, gods and more of those mentioned in Greek mythology and we know more of their history in an enjoyable way, plus Percy thanks to his mother's upbringing does not want to be at all like the rest of his family.
On the other hand, the makeup of beings like Medusa, the furies and more is sometimes very striking, as required according to the situation, as a confrontation and others are let's say that mimicked with the modern environment, as it was with the representation of the three Moiras, also how they give life to places like the garden of Styx, place where Medusa was.
On the other hand, we see in some cases marked differences between the dialogues and facts that were presented in the previous films and the series, I will not say which ones, because I do not want to make more spoilers, it is true that there are similarities, but also differences and more development that was what I liked the most, although some characters were insipid, I do not know if it is the actor or the script, but they were not taken advantage of as I would have liked, for example, in the case of Hades.
As for the cast that I will not mention, I liked that I did not see faces, let's say known or not very well known, I will only say that I like to see fresh blood on stage and the only one I recognized was the late Lance Reddick, who here had the role of Sea and who also played Charon in the John Wick films.
As for what I don't like is Disney's current efforts to reinforce inclusion and diversity, I'm talking about characters from different racial backgrounds, cultures, histories, beliefs, inclinations and more, I think that sometimes it is something so forced, that instead of achieving the acceptance of the public, it has the opposite effect, which is commendable, but I think they have not known how to do it.
Something else that caught my attention, was the titles of the chapters, because they really seem to be written by a young teenager and the characters have differences with those we saw in the movies, but as I mentioned a lot of these are maintained, since all are inspired by the novels of Rick Riordan, as I mentioned.
In summary, this first season of "Percy Jackson and the Gods of Olympus" based, I presume, on the first novel of Rick Riordan's saga "The Lightning Thief" has eight chapters and is a good option for entertainment and is available on the Disney+ streaming platform.
Ver contenido relacionado con la mitología griega, siempre es interesante, todos hemos visto películas como Furia de Titanes, ya sea en su primera versión o en las modernas o la odisea en diferentes versiones (película o serie), pero solo con la llegada de algunas más recientes vemos una mezcla de lo moderno con la mitología griega, hace poco supe de esta serie y quería ver que tan similar o diferente era de las películas de hace unos 10 años o más.
Percy Jackson y los dioses del Olimpo
Primero lo primero, debo reconocer que tenía muchas dudas acerca de lo que vería, ya que al haber visto las entregas anteriores de este personaje en películas no sabía que esperar y no sabía tampoco si traían algo diferente a lo ya presentado o era una versión de ello, igual, peor o mejor.
Para quienes tal vez no lo sepan, esta serie se centra en la vida de un adolescente de nombre Percy Jackson, quien tiene problemas de diferente tipo como, por ejemplo, ser acosado por otro compañero de clases, el no tener más de un amigo o un padrastro insoportable, déficit de atención, entre otros, pero por una serie de sucesos, este joven de 12 años descubre que es hijo del dios griego de los mares Poseidón.
Al mismo tiempo, descubre que su tío Zeus lo acusa de haber robado su rayo y que debe devolverlo antes del solsticio de verano o estallará una guerra que no solo afectará al Olimpo.
Ahora bien, esta entrega, además de ser una serie, tiene elementos que no están presentes en las películas que le antecedieron. La ventaja es que, al ser una serie, puede desarrollarse mucho más en todo aspecto.
Por otro lado, tanto las películas anteriores como esta serie están basadas en una serie de cinco novelas del mismo nombre, cuyo autor es Rick Riordan, ahora, que me gustó y que no de esta serie.
Aquí los personajes son jóvenes que realmente lucen de la edad que se les atribuye, eso es un punto a su favor, por otro lado, vemos muchos más personajes en cuanto a seres, criaturas, lugares, dioses y más de los que se mencionan en la mitología griega y conocemos más de su historia de una manera amena, además de que Percy gracias a la crianza de su madre no desea ser para nada como el resto de su familia.
Por otro lado, el maquillaje de los seres como Medusa, las furias y más es a veces muy llamativa, como es requerido de acuerdo a la situación, como un enfrentamiento y otras están digamos que mimetizados con el ambiente moderno, como lo fue con la representación de las tres Moiras, también el cómo le dan vida a lugares como el jardín de Estigia, lugar en el que se encontraba Medusa.
Por otra parte, vemos en algunos casos marcadas diferencias entre los diálogos y hechos que se presentaron en las películas anteriores y la serie, no diré cuáles, porque no quiero dar hacer más espóiler, es cierto que hay similitudes, pero también diferencias y más desarrollo que fue lo que más me gusto, aunque algunos personajes la verdad eran insípidos no se si trate del actor o del guion, pero no se les sacó provecho como me hubiera gustado, por ejemplo, en el caso de Hades.
En cuanto al reparto que no mencionaré, me gusto que no vi caras, digamos que conocidas o no muy conocidas, solo diré que me gusta ver sangre fresca en escena y al único que reconocí fue al difunto Lance Reddick, quien aquí tuvo el papel de Sea y quien también interpreto a Caronte en las películas de John Wick.
En cuanto a lo que no me agrada es el empeño actual de Disney de reforzar la inclusión y la diversidad hablo de personajes de diferentes orígenes raciales, culturas, historias, creencias, inclinaciones y más, creo que a veces es algo tan forzado, que en lugar de lograr la aceptación del público, tiene el efecto contrario, ojo es elogiable, pero creo no lo han sabido llevar.
Algo más que llamo mi atención, fue los títulos de los capítulos, porque verdaderamente parecen escritos por un joven adolescente y los personajes tienen diferencias con los que vimos en las películas, pero se mantiene como mencioné mucho de estos, ya que todas están en inspirados en las novelas de Rick Riordan, como ya mencioné.
En resumen, esta primera temporada de “Percy Jackson y los dioses del Olimpo” basada, presumo, en la primera novela de la saga de Rick Riordan “El ladrón del Rayo” cuenta con ocho capítulos y es una buena opción para entretenerse y está disponible en la plataforma streaming Disney+.

La empecé a ver hace poco y me va gustando mucho. Como lectora todavía no leí los libros en los que esta basada, pero si conozco la historia y lo populares que son. Por lo que tengo entendido los nombres de los capítulos de la serie corresponden a los capítulos del primer libro, lo que me parece muy buen acierto y parece que la serie es más fiel que las peliculas anteriores. Por lo pronto estoy encantada con esta historia y la seguiré viendo ✨
