Review/ The Continental: From the Universe of John Wick
Undoubtedly John Wick became a saga that many of us follow, the possibility that hired killers are more than solitary beings and that around them there is a whole complex organization, capable of so many things that even surprises, has fascinated us, I presume that wanting to get all the juice to this franchise, a series was born that you can watch on Prime Video, of which so far there is only one season.
The Continental: From the Universe of John Wick
As I have seen in the movies we know that the Continental Hotels around the world are places of accommodation for all hired killers, is this first season of the prequel we are presented, as in the 70's the famous character Winston (hotel manager) comes to know of this world and how after pains events related to his family almost destroys the hotel Complete and dethrones the one who was by that time the manager of the Continental of New York.
Now, I call my attention that this series in its first season only has 3 chapters, but being of long duration, it is more than enough to show how both Winston and Caronte (his second in command) started in this world.
Something that pushed me to watch it was to notice in its trailer among the cast Mel Gibson, who plays Cormac, the manager of the 70's The Continental and who had recruited when they were just children to Winston and his older brother Frankie, but thanks to the latter and without knowing it, Winston had managed to get out of this underworld, until his older brother steals something of value to the table and the hotel, unleashing a hunt around him and all those around him and thus begin to be all pursued to find the stolen object.
Added to the above and as is typical of this franchise we can see a lot of action and violence, but this was not what I most enjoyed, although it was expected, one of the best things about this series is its scenery the way they recreated the New York of the 70s, the costumes and the best thing is the decoration that was used at that time, the wallpaper with flowers in different shades, using a lot of earth tones, as well as pop colors, rounded and cozy shapes, velvet without forgetting the constant presence of psychedelic, typical of this era.
Also, remember that in the 70s there were no cell phones, so in this installment we are shown an interesting way to communicate with the killers staying at the hotel, I will not mention which one, as it would be very enlightening for you to see this short series, but loaded with information of what happened before the arrival of John Wick to this world.
On the other hand, this series allows us to know a little more of what this hotel hides, what is in its entrails and how a faction of this underworld takes over something that belongs to the table and thus manages to be taken more seriously.
The cast includes Colin Woodell/ Winston Scott, Mel Gibson/ Cormac, Ayomide Adegun/ Charon, Mishel Prada/ KD, Jeremy Bobb/ Mayhew, the gorgeous Ben Robson/ Frankie, Nhung Kate/ Yen, Jessica Allain/ Lou and Hubert/ Miles.
In short, this series in its first season illustrates a little of the facts around everything related to this hotel before the appearance of John Wick allowing us to know a little more of some of the characters that are part of this franchise and even some of those who do not appear in it, but that give substance and even sense to what happens in this first season.
Sin duda alguna John Wick se trasformó en una saga que muchos seguimos, la posibilidad de que los asesinos a sueldo sean más que seres solitarios y que en torno a ellos exista toda una organización compleja, capaz de tantas cosas que hasta sorprende, nos ha fascinado, presumo que deseando sacarle todo el jugo a esta franquicia, nació una serie que podrás ver en Prime Video, de la cual solo hasta ahora hay una temporada.

Como yo has visto en las películas sabemos que los Hoteles Continental alrededor del mundo son lugares de hospedaje para todos los asesinos a sueldo, es esta primera temporada de la precuela nos presentan, como en los años 70 el famoso personaje Winston (gerente del hotel) llega a conocer de este mundo y como tras dolores acontecimientos relacionados con su familia casi destroza el hotel Completo y destrona al que era para ese momento el gerente del Continental de New York.
Ahora bien, llamo mi atención que esta serie en su primera temporada solo cuenta con 3 capítulos, pero al ser de larga duración, es más que suficiente para mostrar cómo se iniciaron tanto Winston como Caronte (su segundo al mando) en este mundo.
Algo que me empujo a verla fue el notar en su tráiler entre el reparto a Mel Gibson, quien encarna a Cormac ,el gerente de los 70 The Continental y quien había reclutado cuando apenas eran unos niños a Winston y su hermano mayor Frankie, pero gracias a este último y sin saberlo, Winston había logrado salir de este inframundo, hasta que su hermano mayor, roba algo de valor para la mesa y el hotel, desatando una cacería en torno a él y todos los que le rodeaban y así comienzan a ser todos perseguidos para dar con el objeto robado.
Agregado a lo anterior y como es típico de esta franquicia podemos ver mucha acción y violencia, pero esto no fue lo que más disfrute, aunque era de esperarse, una de las mejores cosas de esta serie es su escenografía la manera en que recrearon a la New York de los años 70, el vestuario y lo mejor la decoración que se usaba en esa época el papel tapiz con flores en diferente tonalidad, usando mucho los tonos tierra, así como los colores pop, las formas redondeadas y acogedoras, el terciopelo sin olvidar la constante presencia de lo psicodélico, típico de esta época.
Así mismo, recordemos que en los 70 no existían los celulares, por lo que en esta entrega nos muestran una manera interesante para comunicarse con los asesinos hospedados en el hotel, no mencionaré cuál, ya que sería muy ilustrativo para ustedes poder ver esta serie corta, pero cargada de información de lo que ocurrió antes de la llegada de John Wick a este mundo.
Por otra parte, esta serie nos permite conocer un poco más de lo que oculta este hotel, lo que hay en sus entrañas y de cómo, una digamos, que facción de este inframundo, se apodera de algo que le pertenece a la mesa y logra así ser tomada más en serio.
Entre el elenco o reparto tenemos a Colin Woodell / Winston Scott, Mel Gibson/ Cormac, Ayomide Adegun/ Charon, Mishel Prada/ KD, Jeremy Bobb/ Mayhew, el guapísimo Ben Robson/ Frankie, Nhung Kate/ Yen, Jessica Allain/ Lou y Hubert/ Miles.
En resumen, esta serie en su primera temporada nos ilustra un poco de los hechos en torno todo lo relacionado con este hotel antes de la aparición de John Wick permitiéndonos conocer un poco más de algunos de los personajes que forman parte de esta franquicia y hasta de algunos que los que no aparecen más en ella, pero que le dan sustancia y hasta sentido a lo que ocurre en esta primera temporada.
