'The Path' surprises in every episode | Review of a series that does not seek to make you happy

Hello everyone, I've had a lot of setbacks and it's taken me a while to get back to posting, so today that I have a chance to share something, let's get to it, because I want to talk (WITH A LITTLE SPOILERS) about a series that is entering my list of favorites.
Watching the first 10 minutes of The Path I knew that at least its first season would have a lot of solidity and transcendence in its intentions to achieve a quite concrete work.
The Path illustrates the protagonists of a movement that calls itself 'Meyerism', which functions as a spiritual group that attracts people in delicate emotional situations of abandonment or loss. People who feel lonely and want to stop being lonely are always welcome to join this group, in order to improve their situation and even their life.
Meyerists' repudiate the term cult, the name given to them by people outside their group, so they take their discipline very seriously.
They live in centers, complexes, they move tokens to keep their people living there.
This large group that already resembles an institution is orchestrated by Cal Roberts a leader without much charisma but who does everything in the name of his light or his leader Steven Meyer, to whom we obviously owe the name of this movement.
The series shows us a leader who can break and derail as soon as something comes up against him, which does not make him such a decisive leader, but just talking about the light and concepts such as the rungs of the ladder is enough to please followers.
On the other hand we have the Lane family, a married couple composed of Meyerist members Sarah, Eddie and their children Hawk and Summer. This family is 100% followers of Meyerism and it is with whom this wonderful story begins.
Eddie's path and concerns
Eddie, who recently arrived from a spiritual retreat in Peru, finds himself with a lot of doubts about the movement.
It turns out that in Peru he drank Ayahuasca, a "medicinal" drink that is quite commercial among people who are in what today we may know as "new age cults". This drink that Eddie consumes to heal his mental wounds did not make him see the light or find something very nice about his movement, in fact he felt that all the light and the movement is a lie, so he begins to question his convictions regarding Meyerism.
It is worth noting that in this type of group everyone arrives being vulnerable and easy to manipulate, being emotionally fragile it is difficult to see reality without distortions and the clearest example is the leader, who at first glance you can already see that he is someone who is not well, with many manias, tics, nerves, he manages that someone in a situation of abandonment does not detect his dark side because basically they arrive wanting to solve their own problems.
So Eddie after being a possible believer of the movement, who arrived with traumas about his brother, now he will have to follow a path where he will face the lies and injustices of the movement of which he is a militant.
Sarah Lane is a movement in herself.
On the other hand we have Eddie's wife, Sarah who functions as Cal's right hand, she is a kind of therapist, guide and also does human resources and administration, a little bit of everything.
We can say that Sarah is one of the most rooted to the movement since she was born there and doesn't know anything external to her light, so she is the least emotionally affected in her life and growing up there has led her to climb up to be a privileged one.
Sarah begins to care and follow where Eddie is going concluding that he is having an affair, which is wrong but Cal who is also in love with her, follows her lead to keep Eddie away, this leads them both to decide to lock him in a room to drink drinks of dubious origin that make him vomit and hallucinate.
Sarah is an evil character, I have not seen in my life a woman who is so much pure evil, Cersei from 'Game Of Thrones' was evil and loved her children but Sarah's character is so well built that you forget that she is like that because she was born into the movement, an example is that Sarah gets to break her son's heart away from his girlfriend, as Meyerists can not have love or family relationships with people who do not belong to the movement.
Sarah is so radical with her movement that she goes so far as to lock up Eddie's supposed lover for no reason, which reaffirms her belief and passionate madness and malignancy for Meyerism.
She is quite independent, although her mind is totally manipulated by her original context, she makes decisions and moves things in her favor to never lose the order of her beliefs.
Something that slightly surprises me about this series is that they avoid talking about God, it is something very typical of the real sects but at first glance we notice that they assume that they believe in God but prefer to use another word to refer to their maximum leader, in this case is the Light.
Calvin Roberts the mirage of trauma transformed into greatness
Calvin Roberts, who is a leader who leads without so much effort, is nothing more than a human being with mistakes, only that for the eyes of the abandoned he is like a savior king, a supreme being, successful, someone who achieved what he set out to do, to live from Meyerism.
Mary Cox, a young woman who came to the movement very broken by her history with her father who used her to please his friends is one of the victims shown in this story, she is also one of those who falls at the feet of her leader when she feels persuaded by his words.
The fact is that Mary only heard Calvin speak and fell in love with him, but her story is nothing more than a metaphor for all the weak souls who come from the streets to the movement, how abandonment traumatizes them, and how overcoming these problems will determine their personality in the near future.
Cal Roberts is not so different from its members, he has problems with alcohol, arguments with his mother, impulses, etc. As the chapters go by, we gradually get closer to his history and the reasons for his intentions and imbalances.
In fact it can be said that he does not know how to lead and has only been lucky, when things begin to falter his shortcomings as a leader begin and it is something that in each event is more noticeable.
Although The Path is a series very similar to a documentary about cults, its intention is to show the evil of the human being, the madness of losing hope, the impulses of not having control.
At some point I could think that this series would show the overcoming of the characters, find tranquility or reconcile love with the surrounding, but nothing to do. In this series you will simply see evil made drama, there are characters that are disgusting for the lack of compassion they have, and this for me makes it an innovative and successful series.
And although there are many characters that dislike, they did not take away my desire to watch it, it is quite original in terms of plot because you always want to see something new in the story. It has a lot of murky and dark moments but for my taste which is usually pretty weird I didn't lose interest or enjoyment.
The first season seems to me impeccable and I hope to continue watching more and sharing my humble vision here.

Hola a todos, he tenido muchos contratiempos y me ha costado volver a publicar, así que hoy que tengo oportunidad de compartir algo, vamos a ello, porque quiero hablar (CON UN POQUITO DE SPOILERS) de una serie que está entrando en mi lista de favoritas.
Al ver los primeros 10 minutos de The Path sabía que al menos su primera temporada tendría mucha solidez y trascendencia en sus intenciones para lograr una obra bastante concreta.
The Path nos ilustra a los protagonistas de un movimiento que se hace llamar 'Meyerismo', el cual funciona como un grupo espiritual que atrae personas en situaciones emocionales delicadas, de abandono o pérdida. Personas que se sientan solas y con ganas de dejar de estarlo, siempre serán bienvenidas a este grupo, con el fin de mejorar su situación e incluso su vida.
Los 'meyeristas' repudian el término secta, el nombre que le dan las personas de afuera de su grupo, por lo que se toman muy en serio su disciplina.
Viven en centros, complejos, mueven fichas para mantener su gente viviendo allí.
Este gran grupo que ya se asemeja a una institución es orquestado por Cal Roberts un líder sin mucha carisma pero que todo lo hace en nombre de su luz o de su líder Steven Meyer, a quien obviamente debemos el nombre de este movimiento.
La serie nos muestra un líder que puede romperse y descarrilarse a penas algo surja en su contra, lo cual no lo hace un líder tan determinante, pero solo hablar de la luz y de conceptos como los peldaños de la escalera es suficiente para complacer seguidores.
Por otro lado tenemos a la familia Lane un matrimonio compuesto por los miembros meyeristas Sarah, Eddie y sus hijos Hawk y Summer. Esta familia es 100% seguidora del Meyerismo y es con quien comienza esta maravillosa historia.
El camino y las inquietudes de Eddie
Eddie, quien recientemente llegó de un retiro espiritual desde Peru, al llegar se encuentra con un montón de dudas acerca del movimiento.
Resulta ser que en Peru bebió Ayahuasca, una bebida "medicinal" que es bastante comercial entre personas que se encuentran en lo que a día de hoy podemos conocer como "sectas new age". Esta bebida que consume Eddie para sanar sus heridas mentales no le hizo ver la luz ni encontrar algo muy bonito de su movimiento, de hecho sintió que toda la luz y el movimiento es una mentira, por lo que comienza a cuestionar sus convicciones respecto al meyerismo.
Vale destacar que en este tipo de grupos todos llegan siendo vulnerables y fáciles de manipular, al estar frágiles sentimentalmente es difícil ver la realidad sin distorsiones y el ejemplo mas claro es el líder, quien a simple vista ya se nota que es alguien que no está bien, con muchas manías, tics, nervios, logra que alguien en situación de abandono no detecte su lado oscuro porque básicamente llegan queriendo resolver sus propios problemas.
Entonces Eddie luego de ser un posible creyente del movimiento, quien llegó con traumas acerca de su hermano, ahora tendrá que seguir un camino donde enfrentará las mentiras e injusticias del movimiento del cual es militante.
Sarah Lane es un movimiento en si misma
Por otro lado tenemos a la esposa de Eddie, Sarah quien funciona como la mano derecha de Cal, ella es una especie de terapeuta, guía y también hace de recursos humanos y administración, un poco de todo.
Podemos decir que Sarah es de las mas arraigadas al movimiento ya que nació allí y no conoce algo externo a su luz, por lo cual es la menos afectada emocionalmente en su vida y crecer allí la ha llevado a escalar hasta ser una privilegiada.
Sarah comienza a cuidar y a seguir hacia donde va Eddie concluyendo en que tiene una aventura, lo cual es erróneo pero Cal quien también está enamorado de ella, sigue su corriente para ir apartando a Eddie, esto los lleva a ambos a decidir encerrarlo en una habitación a tomar bebidas de dudosa procedencia que lo hacen vomitar y alucinar.
Sarah es un personaje maligno, no he visto en mi vida una mujer que sea tanta maldad pura, Cersei de 'Game Of Thrones' era maldad y quería a sus hijos pero el personaje de Sarah está tan bien construido que te olvidas que es así porque nació dentro del movimiento, un ejemplo es que Sarah llega a romperle el corazón a su hijo alejándolo de su novia, ya que los meyeristas no pueden tener relaciones de amor ni familiares con gente que no pertenece al movimiento.
Sarah es tan radical con su movimiento que llega a encerrar a la supuesta amante de Eddie sin motivo alguno, cosa que reafirma su creencia y apasionante locura y malignidad por el Meyerismo.
Ella es alguien bastante independiente, aunque su mente está totalmente manipulada por su contexto originario, toma decisiones y mueve las cosas a su favor para nunca perder el orden de sus creencias.
Algo que ligeramente me sorprende de esta seria es que evitan mucho hablar de Dios, es algo muy típico de las sectas reales pero que a simple a vista notamos que asumen que creen en Dios pero prefieren usar otra palabra para referirse a su máximo líder, en este caso es la Luz.
Calvin Roberts el espejismo de un trauma transformado en grandeza
Calvin Roberts, quien es un líder que lidera sin tanto esfuerzo, no es mas que un ser humano con errores, solo que para los ojos de los abandonados es como un rey salvador, un ser supremo, exitoso, alguien que logró lo que se propuso, vivir del Meyerismo.
Mary Cox, una joven que llegó muy rota al movimiento por su historia con su padre quien la usaba para complacer a sus amigos es una de las víctimas que nos muestra esta historia, asimismo es ella de las que cae a los pies de su líder al sentirse persuadida por sus palabras.
El caso es que Mary solo escuchó hablar a Calvin y se enamoró de él, pero su historia no es mas que una metáfora de todas las almas débiles que llegan de las calles al movimiento, de como el abandono los trauma, además de que la superación de esos problemas determinará su personalidad en el futuro mas cercano.
Cal Roberts no es tan distinto a sus miembros, tiene problemas de alcohol, discusiones con su madre, impulsos, etc. En el pasar de los capítulos nos acercan poco a poco a su historia y los motivos de sus intenciones y desequilibrios.
De hecho se puede decir que no sabe como liderar y solo ha tenido suerte, cuando la cosa empieza a tambalear comienzan sus carencias como líder y es algo que en cada suceso es mas notorio.
Aunque The Path es una serie muy parecida a un documental sobre sectas, su intención está en mostrar lo maligno del ser humano, la locura al perder la esperanza, los impulsos al no tener control.
En algún momento pude pensar que esta serie mostraría la superación de los personajes, encontrar la tranquilidad o conciliar el amor con el alrededor, pero nada que ver. En esta serie simplemente verás maldad hecha drama, hay personajes que dan asco por la falta de compasión que tienen, y esto para mí lo hace una serie innovadora y acertada.
Y aunque hay muchos personajes que desagraden, no me quitaron las ganas de verla, es bastante original en cuanto a trama porque siempre quieres ver algo nuevo en la historia. Tiene muchos momentos turbios y oscuros pero para mi gusto que suele ser bastante raro no perdí el interés ni la diversión.
La primera temporada me parece impecable y espero seguir viendo más y compartiendo mi humilde visión por acá.
