"Bruce Almighty" by Tom Shadyac: A man with the power of God tried to fix his life
(Edited)
Greetings!
Jim Carrey is one of the funniest actor ever to grace the silver screen. His acting and his funny side seems to be so natural for him that acting for becomes so natural. There are a lot of movies of Jim Carrey but there is one that is one of my all-time favorite, and it is "Bruce Almighty".
The narrative of "Bruce Almighty" is all about the funny and hilarious life of a news reporter Bruce Nolan played by Jim Carrey. Bruce Almighty is also a serious movie that tackles about how God works (based on our perspective) and how "free will" can affect a situation even if you are endowed with God's power.
At the early part of the movie I immediately love the soundtrack used which is "Chariots of Fire". I am sure you guys agree that this music (Chariots of Fire) is one of the greatest masterpiece ever created. Whenever I hear this music it always "slays" the scene be it in comedy, action, thriller, sci-fi, or any genre that you could imagine "Chariots of Fire" will make you like the scene.
It is amazing how they are able to make the scene where the dog is urinating while being carried outside by Jim Carrey. I never expected that I scene would be included in this movie ever, I commend the creativity of the script for this one.
The biggest revelation on the movie is when Grace was praying to God asking to help her forget Bruce, right from that moment even if Bruce has the God's power he can't mess up with "free will".
I like how the movie shows how God made his way to Bruce, by way of pager, with a number 555 0123. At first I was not able to discern about the pager but when it does again a second time and third time I immediately that it was God who is paging Bruce. The idea of the pager is neat and I never think of any better way that can be used by the movie to make God make his way to Bruce.
I have to admit, that Moregan Freeman is so handsome in his white suit when he finally reveals himself as the boss of the company that bruce is looking for. I like it that Moregan Freeman wore all white suit just like what a heavenly being that we mortals are expecting to see in a movie.
Then there's this angle and hand gesture of Moregan Freeman saying "Bruce, I am God", the scene is amazing and is perfectly catches a scene where God can reveal himself to man in a very casual way.
And then there's the scene when Bruce tried to trick God on how many fingers he is hiding, God says 7, and when he revealed his hands his fingers became 7. It his so hilarious that I laugh my ass of on that particular. I couldn't imagine that the scriptwriter made such an entertaining scene, very clever, I would say.
Another very clever scene is when Bruce's stepped on the hole on the pavement full of water. At first he stepped on it and his feet went through it making his shoes and lower part of his pants wet but when I finally went out of the building he stepped on it again, but this time his shoes did not sunk into it.
I love it when Bruce replicated the event of exoduns where he splits his soup into two but was cut short when God suddenly appears in front of him.
Aside from the soup/exodus scene I also love the scene when God asked Bruce that they walk together but then at the end of the scene reveals that they are actually walking on top of water while a boat passes them by. I am sure the man on the boat doesn't see them both.
By the way, I am not going to end this review without saying that Jennifer Aniston looks great on this one, which by the way she always is as she is one of the most beautiful actresses Hollywood has ever produced.
One of the most hilarious scene of the move is when Bruce messed up with the voice of Steve Carrel. Steve try to do his very best but still can't get to speak with his real voice as Bruce is controlling him. No only that Bruce Also messed up with the prompter changing the words displayed on it at his will and Steve has no clue and reads the messed prompter.
Another entertaining scene in this movie that I love is when Bruce tried to answer all the prayers using a computer, it was just hilarious, but he could have just say yes on his mind and it will be done.
The saddest scene that I love the most on this movie is when Grace was praying to God asking for help to forget and get over Bruce. This is one scene perfectly show that even an individual with the endowed power of God is helpless when it comes to "free will" and it devasted Bruce.
All in all this movie for me is great, you get to see how God works, that "free will" is one of the foundation of human life that not even an individual with a power of God could not mess up. This is one movie that we can learn a lot about life. If you are into a romantic comedy that is unique and with a story with elements of the Bible and God this is for you.
