"Deep Impact" by Mimi Leder: When did a movie made you cry?

Greetings!

In terms of movies, the decade of the 1990s made lots of contributions in terms of great movies with great stories and great filmmaking. I think the 1990s is one of the decades of the golden age of movies. With that being said, there are lots of great movies from the 1990s and one of them is "Deep Impact". Deep Impact made such a mark that even today the younger generations are able to enjoy and marvel at the story and how Deep Impact was made.

The narrative of Deep Impact is all about stressful, sad, and fast-paced situations that the characters of the movie undergo because there are only hours left whether they live or die in the coming comet that will strike Earth. It is also a movie with some twists and I am sure this is one of the movies that is some of its scene will not be easily predictable.

I actually watched Deep Impact in a cinema when it was released here in our country (in 1998). I can still remember that when I entered the cinema it was S.R.O. already. It is one of the movies that I like very much. And today, I am going to watch it again for this review.

Deep Impact has one of the best first scenes that I can remember. It started with science-themed scenes and then pivoted to a scene about personal matters that turned out to be related to the first scene. Never did I think of something that would lead to a bigger picture than just an act of infidelity by a high-ranking official of the government of the United States of America. I must say that the first part of the story of the movie is a masterpiece, well-written, and well-thought-out.

I like the scene from normal to intense when Dr. Marcus Wolf was checking the trajectory of the photo of the comet that was sent to him (the photo which Leo Biederman took on the night of Astronomy Club of Lee High School).

The scene where Dr. Marcus Wolf found out that the comet is in a collision course with Earth

The scene where Dr. Marcus Wolf has to die in his attempt to tell the world about the comet is brilliant. The death of Dr. Marcus Wolf made me very very curious about what would happen next. It is brilliant because it leaves you guessing how the hell the government was able to know the news that Dr. marcus Wolf is to tell. And then that was it for the opening scene of the movie then it pivoted one year later.

Then it gets confusing and interesting when Jenny Lerner found herself in a beach near the yatch of the former Secretary of the Treasury Alan Rittenhouse because of a "lead" about a presumed "infidelity" of Alan Rittenshouse which of course led Jenny Lerner to believe that in fact Alan Rittenhouse is having an affair which led him to resign from the White House.

The scene where Jenny Lerner and Alan Rittenhouse talking about a presumed mistress "Ellie"

Then there's the scene that made me nervous. It is when Jenny Lerner's car was pinned down by four FBI cars in a highway. One car rammed the back of her car twice in order for her to get the message that she needs to stop the car. The scene is brilliant because it led me to believe that she would be in serious trouble because of the story that she is investigating, the story about a presumed mistress "Ellie".

This is one of the most nervous scene of the movie. When Jenny Lerner was picked up by FBI agents by force

And then the big revelation in the succeeding scene when Jenny Lerner learned that "Ellie" is actually an acronym E.L.E. which is about extinction, this time about the extinction of human as we now it.

The scene where Jenny Lerner learned about E.L.E. an event where the government tried hard to conceal because of the very reason that there will be panic

After Jenny Lerner learned the truth about ELE it made me cry. I have never watched a film that made me cry in just under 30 minutes. And Deep Impact is one of the few movies that saw which made me cry.

Then there's the brilliant transition of scene while the President is simultaneously speaking on a national television. It is one of the best scene transitions that I have ever since it perfectly syncs with the voice of the President while speaking in the national television while scenes are transitioning one after another.

There are also twists in the movie where I thought all is lost and the crew of the Messiah is now going home but it was revealed that one of the crew is thinking of detonating the remaining nuclear so that the comet will be destroyed into pieces. Another twist of the movie is when Leo Beiderman chose to leave the shelter in order to be with his wife Sarah.

With all the twists, the scenes of Leo Beiderman, the scenes of Janny Lerner the film is brilliantly transitioned to perfection. You will not get bored watching. In fact it will keep you at the edge of your seat all the time.

All in all the movie is great. It is by far one of the best ELE movies to date. Since then, I haven't seen a movie as good as Deep Impact. It's story is great, with great filmmaking, and great actors. Morgan Freeman is superb on this one, that is why I like Moregan Freeman a lot.

I recommend this movie if you are looking for something to watch. And there are actually a lot of movies out there but none comes close to this one.

Note: All images on this blog was taken from the movie itself.

That is all for now guys, catch you up with the next one. Wishing you all safety, good health, and abundance.

Your review actually convinced me to watch the movie, this created a sense of suspense in me and now I am keen to watch this one.

I think there are two parts of deep impact. Good review brother.

I thought that Deep Impact was a very good film and better than Armageddon even though their plot was essentially the same thing. Both films were released right around the same time too!

Oh and another thing that I thought was kind of hokey in this movie is when President Morgan Freeman comes on TV to explain that the attempt at firing nuclear bombs at the comet in order to save humanity has failed..... That is all we ever hear about that. I guess they didn't have the budget to even show us any footage of nukes getting fired.

Same here, that is my thinking. It would have been a lot cooler if they did show it.
