"There's Something About Marry" by Peter Farrelly and Bobby Farrelly: A Love Story that Gets you Annoyed and In Love
Greetings!
Romance comedy is probably one of my favorites when it comes to movie genres. And the 1990s doesn't have a shortage of them. Of all the romance comedies that I already watched there is one that until now is my favorite, it is "There's Something About Marry". If I remember it right and to be honest it is the movie that I first came to know about Ben Stiller and not the first when it comes to Cameron Diaz.
It was 25 years ago when I first watched this movie and because I want to write a review about I watched it again. Again, to be honest, I entirely forgot the narrative of the movie. And I have to admit that the narrative and plot of the movie are hard to predict knowing that I already watch it and when I watching it I do not what will happen next the only very crystal clear on my mind is when Ben zipped his scrotum and when Cameron mistakenly thought that the thing in Ben's ear is a gel.
Did I just mention that I entirely forgot about the plot of the movie? With that being said I am still in awe of the simple but great first entrance scene of Cameron on a bicycle when wearing matching pink jeans and a pink blouse with a very very sweet smile. The background music of Cameron's entrance is great too. And yep, I must say this again, Cameron's got a nice outfit in her first scene and a nice smile. And I must admit I love Cameron's hair in her first scenes. Needless to say,; Cameron's first scene is bang!
I love movies with a fast turn of events and "There's Something About Marry" is a very fast-paced movie except for some slow-moving parts of the movie. But all in all, it is a very fast-paced movie that I watched in the 1990s.
And who is not going to fall in love with Cameron when you see her in her curly blonde hair while wearing a dress for the prom? She is just absolutely gorgeous, so simple, yet very elegant and very attractive.
Then came the scene that made me laugh my heart out. It is when Ben accidentally zipped his junior. I know it hurts because it once happened to me when I was a kid. The dialogue "How the hell did you get the zipper all the way to the top?" What makes me laugh all the scenes prior is just embarrassing.
And then 13 years later Ben is telling his story to someone and he says that he again started to think about Mary. Then one of his friends suggested that he hire a private investigator to track Mary down. The private investigator that Ben hired tracked Mary down to Miami. But a turn of events unfolds when the private investigator lies to Ben. Instead of telling the truth to Ben the private investigator lied. Little did Ben know that the investigator had developed an interest in Mary.
And then the investigator made his move. He quit his job to pursue Mary. He posed as an architect and pretended that he had already gone to Nepal (which Mary wanted to go to). But then in another turn of events, Ben found out that Mary was not what the investigator told him. Little did Ben know that the investigator was already pursuing Mary.
The investigator made a step closer to Mary when he drugged a dog so that he could cuddle with him. But the investigator almost blew his cover when the dog almost died because of the drug that the investigator put in the food of the dog.
In the next scenes although I already watched it I already forgot the next scenes and I started to wonder what would come next. I am actually hooked at the moment when Mary and the investigator meet one of her friends Mary who turns out to be also a poser.
I love how the movie is made in a way that the viewer like me will not be able to guess what the next scene will be. I admit that I am quite surprised that I already forgot the entire plot. At first, I thought that his other friend of Mary, which is Tucker, was actually a real friend but he turns out to be a poser he is not a disabled male as he poses but he is actually a pizza delivery with no physical defect.
I also like when the movie got messy when Ben was caught by the police when he tripped on a man doing some indecent act. Little does Ben know that the hitchhiker that he is talking to is actually a killer who is about to kill Ben and his life is saved when he stops his car to pee only to trip on a man doing an indecent act.
I like that the movie has a lot of plot twists when Ben and his friend drive to find Mary and then little does Ben know that this friend Woogie is actually the ex-boyfriend of Mary and is very obsessed with her. Not the obsession that you actually think because Woogie is just so obsessed with Mary's high heels.
I like how the movie portrayed Mary's friend Tucker came to the rescue when I went to Mary's house and he said about grim information about the investigator. I bought it and I thought Tucker was actually a concerned friend but is actually a poser.
Then one of the scenes that I love came when Mary mistakenly thought of the thing at the ear of Ben as a gel, she grabbed it and put it in her hair.
I love how the movie became a little bit messy near the end but still hilarious. Then the whole thing clears up. Ben brought Bret Favre because he knew Bret was one who did no wrong in pursuing Mary. But little did Ben know that what he did only made Mary fall in love with her. At the end of the movie, Ben walks away from the house of Mary sobbing but Mary pursues him and asks if he means what he previously said and then they kiss.

That is all for now guys, catch you up with the next one. Wishing you all safety, good health, and abundance.
