Algunos la consideran una película sobrevalorada. Otros críticos la tacharon de ser melodramática y resaltaron la dificultad para empatizar con el personaje de Derek. El odio solo trae odio, la violencia solo trae violencia. Todo eso es lo que nos termina dejando la película como parte de su mensaje. Los momentos en blanco y negro son sublimes, pues a parte de ser flashbacks, es un reflejo de la realidad de aquél entonces del protagonista, no fue sino hasta que estuvo en la carcel que entendió que la vida no tenía porque ser así, que a veces podemos ser amigos de quienes menos creemos. La música, la fotografía y el como se cuentan los sucesos la hacen sumamente especial. Norton da una interpretación sumamente buena, pues terminas queriendo golpear al personaje por pensar y decir semejantes cosas horribles, en efecto cumple su cometido. Por eso, le doy una calificación de 8.3, pelicula altamente reomendada para verla aunque sea una vez en la vida. Su mensaje sigue vigente, y espero jamás desaparezca. Esperemos que las cosas mejores en muchos lugares y que todos podamos tener paz.
