I have thought a lot to make a review of this movie because I have the battle between leaving aside its comparison with the book, which I liked a lot and fixed certain expectations and its existence as an isolated adaptation because the opinions between both criteria are very distant, so I decided that I would make a mix of both things to be able to give a more comprehensive opinion, so to speak.

The story tells us the life of Lily Bloom who tries to start from 0 in a new city Boston, there she meets Ryle, a man we could call a "catch", since he is a neurosurgeon and a millionaire but he is not quite perfect, since he has an unresolved anger problem. Lily and Ryle's relationship goes very well, there is chemistry, his sister works with Lily and becomes her best friend, everything is laughter and fun until one day, just at a dinner when Riley meets Lily's mom, she meets her first love, Atlas and jealousy and control issues begin to arise between Lily and Ryle and this escalates to the point of violence. Several incidents occur, Lily at first thinks they are accidents but when it becomes repetitive she realizes that something is not right and decides to separate from Ryle, here she realizes that she is pregnant. Along with all this, we see flashbacks of how Lily and Atlas met and some of their experiences and we understand why they mean so much to each other, we also learn that Lily's mother was also a victim of domestic violence.

Something I liked about the movie is how they did the scenes of violence, as they are recorded to make you think that what happens between Ryle and Lily are accidents, you live it in first person understanding a little Lily's initial perception. Also noteworthy is the performance of Justin Baldoni who plays Ryle, I think he hit the nail on the head with the attitudes and gestures of a narcissistic person, who usually manipulates. Brandon Sklenar who plays the adult Atlas, also has a good characterization even though they have downplayed his character. Regarding Lily, in my opinion, I don't think Blake Lively was the right person to play her, it's not just the age difference issue, that honestly doesn't matter, it's that she doesn't fit the character description and the makeup and costumes don't help AT ALL, Lily's clothes border on cartoonish when she was never described that way and that, whether you've read the book or not is quite noticeable to the audience.

Also and this is the part for those of us who went to see the movie because we read the book, the fact that they left such important things out of the plot like Lily's broken ankle, the Boston magnet, THE DIARIES, Ryle's parents, the Poker club, felt very very disappointing, it is understood that adaptations are not carbon copies (Unless it is Normal people) but many things were missing that were important for the plot, we will have to wait how they solve them in "Starting over".

Now for me the movie by itself, it is not perfect but it works, it can be an introduction to raise awareness about gender based violence or domestic violence, also the scenography is quite nice. As a person who read the book, I didn't like it as much, but it's a decent adaptation, worse things have been done like Death note. I recommend watching it and I give it 3/5

He pensado mucho para hacer un review de esta película porque tengo la batalla entre dejar de lado su comparación con el libro, que me gustó mucho y fijo ciertas expectativas y su existencia como una adaptación aislada porque las opiniones entre ambos criterios son muy distantes, así que decidí que haría un mix de ambas cosas para poder dar una opinión un poco más integral, por así decirlo.

La historia nos cuenta la vida de Lily Bloom quien intenta empezar de 0 en una nueva ciudad Boston, allí conoce a Ryle, un hombre al que podríamos llamar un "partidazo", ya que es neurocirujano y millonario pero que no es del todo perfecto, ya que tiene un problema de ira sin resolver. La relación de Lily y Ryle transcurre muy bien, hay química, la hermana de él trabaja con Lily y se convierte en su mejor amiga, todo es risas y diversión hasta que un día, justamente en una cena cuando Riley conoce a la mamá de Lily, está se recuentra con su primer amor, Atlas y comienzan a surgir los problemas de celos y control entre Lily y Ryle y esto escala hasta el punto de la violencia. Ocurren varios incidentes, Lily al principio piensa que son accidentes pero cuando se vuelve algo repetitivo se da cuenta de que algo no esta bien y decide separarse de Ryle, aquí se da cuenta de que esta embarazada. A la par de todo esto, vemos flashbacks de como se conocieron Lily y Atlas y de algunas de sus vivencias y entendemos porque significan tanto el uno para el otro, también nos enteramos de que la madre de Lily también fue víctima de violencia doméstica.

Algo que me gustó de la película es como hicieron las escenas de violencia, pues están grabadas para hacerte pensar que lo que pasa entre Ryle y Lily son accidentes, lo vives en primera persona entendiendo un poco la percepción inicial de Lily. También es destacable la actuación de Justin Baldoni que hace de Ryle, creo que dio en el clavo con las actitudes y gestos de una persona narcisista, que usualmente manipula. Brandon Sklenar quien hace de Atlas adulto, también tiene una buena caracterización aunque le hayan restado importancia a su personaje. Con respecto a Lily, en mi opinión, no creo que Blake Lively haya sido la persona adecuada para interpretarla, no es solo la cuestión de la diferencia de edad, eso honestamente no importa, es que ella no cuadra con la descripción del personaje y el maquillaje y vestuario no ayudan PARA NADA, la ropa de Lily raya en lo caricaturesco cuando jamas fue descrita así y eso, hayas leído el libro o no es bastante notorio para la audiencia.

También y está es la parte para quienes fuimos a ver la película por leer el libro, el hecho de que dejarán cosas tan importantes fuera de la trama como la fractura del tobillo de Lily, el imán de Boston, LOS DIARIOS, los padres de Ryle, el club de Poker, se sintió muy muy decepcionante, se entiende que las adaptaciones no son copia a carbón (A menos de que sea Normal people) pero faltaron muchas cosas que eran importantes para la trama, tocará esperar como las resuelven en "Volver a empezar".

Ahora bien para mí la película por sí sola, no es perfecta pero funciona, puede ser una introducción a la concientización sobre la violencia basada en género o violencia doméstica, además la escenografía es bastante bonita. Cómo persona que leyó el libro, no me gustó tanto, pero pues es una adaptación decente, se han hecho cosas peores como Death note. Si recomiendo verla y le doy 3/5
