Knowing (2009)

This is a science fiction film directed by Alex Proyas, scripted by Ryne Douglas Pearson, Juliet Snowden, Stiles White and starring Nicolas Cage and Rose Byrne.

It begins in 1959 when a teacher asks her students to draw a picture that will be kept in a time capsule that will be opened fifty years later.

They all do it except for a student named Lucinda Embrey (Lara Robinson), who will write a long series of numbers that will end up falling into the hands of Caleb (Chandler Canterbury) after the capsule is uncovered.

She is the daughter of an astrophysics professor named John Koestler, played by Cage.

He discovers that the series of mysterious and seemingly random numbers are linked to catastrophic events in the past and future.

While trying to decipher the meaning of these numbers, John learns that they are accurate predictions of natural disasters and human tragedies. But, these numbers also predict the end of the world.

John embarks on a mission to uncover the truth behind these numbers and try to save his family and humanity in the process.

Will he be able to crack the code and avert the apocalypse?

The film features a mix of science fiction, mystery and drama elements, although some might argue that it gets a little lost in its own confusing and overly dramatic plot.

The film was met with mixed reviews, however it did very well at the box office, grossing over $180 million, surpassing the $50 million it cost to produce.
