The third chapter of the saga, directed by Ti West and starring his muse Mia Goth, stands out as the most commercially appealing of the trilogy.

This is largely due to its context and the presence of numerous recognizable actors in minor roles that enrich the narrative around the film's protagonist, Maxine, once again brilliantly played by the British actress.

In 'X', Ti West paid homage to and parodied the creation of a pornographic film, while referencing 1970s cinema, employing a style of photography that was at times stark and bleak.

In 'MaXXXine', there is an homage to the B-movie horror genre of the 1980s, reflecting both the period and the appeal (along with its less favorable aspects) associated with Hollywood. The costumes, music and production quality are executed exceptionally well, immersing us in that decade and continually evoking memories of those years.

The script combines aspects of horror, giallo and snuff films, along with a touch of religious themes, although these elements do not consistently triumph throughout the narrative.

While the film is not particularly long, certain segments unfold in a linear if somewhat uneven fashion, reflecting the predominant tone of the trilogy.

This tone may not be to the liking of many viewers, as these productions are unlikely to appeal to a significant portion of the audience, however, they represent bold and innovative efforts that, due to the excellent efforts of the director and artistic team, have managed to revitalize the genre and will likely achieve cult status in time.

To be frank, Maxine was a role that Mia Goth was destined to embody. The mesmerizing way in which the young actress melds with the character is captivating, and this performance is sure to be a defining moment in her career for years to come.

As for the rest of the cast, I would single out Kevin Bacon who is very funny as a private detective in a role that suits him like a glove, exuding charisma every time he appears on stage. Other names like Elizabeth Debicki, Giancarlo Esposito, Bobby Cannavale or Michelle Monaghan fulfill their respective roles but unfortunately they don't have too many minutes to make their mark.
