Mickey 17 (2025)

Mickey 17 masquerades as a sci-fi satire based on author Ashton Edward's almost eponymous novel to exert a structure of parody and mockery towards archetypes of individual personality that agglomerate in our present.
Mickey 17 does not debate itself on its off-kilter character; on the contrary, it manages to figure the most ridiculous situations through a passage of chilling subtexts in the midst of addictive delirium, which glides excellently along with the story and the characters.
The plot tells the story of an expedition in search of new planets to colonise in the face of Earth's obsolescence.

And for the most dangerous missions and the craziest experiments they have Mickey, a poor devil who will die over and over again and be reprinted while waiting for his next mission, but what would happen if one of these clones was left for dead but survived?
This will trigger a succession of misfortunes for poor Mickey, a true survivor.
There are so many subplots in this film that you could make a whole series out of it, and a long one at that. Apart from Mickey's main plot, you have to add the hierarchy of the ship itself with Mark Ruffalo at the head, Mickey's relationship with his girlfriend, the actions of his friend and the subject of his escape from Earth, the hitman who pursues them, the exploitation of the planet and the plot of the aliens, the girl who goes after Mickey... and I'll stop here but believe me there are more plots.
It is understandable that in a novel, which can have as many pages as you need, you can expand on your stories, but a film cannot last seven hours, and although it is not exactly a short film, it is impossible to contain so many plots in just over two hours without ending up dulling the viewer.
Robert Pattinson elevates his acting by playing more than one side of his character, Mickey. An outcast from planet Earth, he manages to find his vocation outside the atmosphere to become part of a programme of replaceable recruits.
Pattinson understands his director's vision better than anyone, he manages to wonderfully enhance the delightful eccentricity of Mickey 17's world and his co-stars, specifically a huge Mark Ruffalo, who, along with Toni Collette, are the perfect spice for the glorious feast of misdeeds that Bong Joon-ho's strange and brilliant human discourse rejoices in.
