The director starts from a novel of the same title, by the writer Rachel Yoder, who won numerous awards, to be herself the author of the screenplay and build a devastating and claustrophobic narration of the feeling of motherhood and what it entails in many women.

Although the opposite is usually told, reaching a depression that verges on madness and comes close to Kafka's Metamorphosis.

Faced with such a complex description, it was essential for an experienced actress to delve into the character. It is the prolific Amy Adams, the disheartening mother, and her work, is really important and interesting (she got so involved in the project that she is even behind the production).

Next to her and as her partner, Scoot Mcnairy being a magnificent complement. As a curiosity, regarding the acting theme, comment that the child-baby does not disentone at all, whenever I face roles of that type.

What is undoubted is that it is a very controversial film and with a complicated response from viewers. On the one hand, I see a very complicated wall to overcome, and it is none other than the fact that the viewing and what it transmits will be different between men and women.

It is undeniable and impossible that the novel, the direction or the protagonist was not a woman, based on this and no matter how much empathy is put from masculinity, we can never reach what the film comes to mean.

On the other hand, there is the controversy it creates among women, since some of them take motherhood to the level of an extraordinary experience, while others (many secretly) will feel very much reflected. And it is all of this that is both the problem and the greatest virtue of Nightbich.
