Novocaine (2025)

An introverted, mild-mannered man is born with a rare genetic disorder that makes him immune to physical pain. When his new partner is taken hostage in a bank robbery, his affliction becomes his superpower.
Acid humour is used well, especially in the dialogue between the hero and the bad guys, but at times the film doesn't know whether to be more action or more funny, but despite these irregularities, the narrative remains enjoyable and maintains an acceptable degree of intrigue.
This proposal was a total enjoyment of comedy-action-romance. Novocaine is one of those films that you have to see in the cinema and that is not a sequel or remake, in this case original script by Lars Jacobson who developed a great premise and concept that, maybe it will be predictable, but because it has so much talent and it is very well written it does not bother or shocks in the least.

For 110 minutes the concept is superbly exploited and generates a lot of humorous sequences and the action is very well choreographed to say the least.
Surprising coming from two directors whose filmography is purely suspense, horror and science fiction.
The cast is undoubtedly another key, especially Jack Quaid, who is clearly in his year. Here he is the protagonist and immediately generates empathy and also gives credibility (and complicity with the viewer), being an ordinary person but with this disorder is very easy to identify with: a closed person, who finds it difficult to be social.
In all areas his performance works, as well as the chemistry he has with Amber Midthunder (Prey), which I also found genuine, those comings and goings that he manages. After that, the rest of the cast contribute and don't get in the way.
It's interesting how, as the film goes on, you wonder: ‘what stupidity are they going to come up with now? Because you really notice the effort to create a variety of totally unexpected situations.
The soundtrack works perfectly to accompany the scenes. The photography, with its icy and dark nuances, accentuates the air of risk and weirdness that surrounds the central character.

Thanks for putting this one on my radar, I totally overlooked it. Sounds quite fun but at the same time the nearly 2 hour run time kind of turns me off. If it was 90 minutes I much quicker would watch it.
