This is a psychological thriller directed by Sam Peckinpah with screenplay by David Zelag Goodman and Sam Peckinpah based on the novel "The Siege of Trencher's Farm" by Gordon M. Williams.

The story follows David Sumner, an American astrophysicist who moves to the quiet rural village of Wakely in Cornwall, England, where his wife was born, along with her.

David seeks a more peaceful environment to concentrate on his work and write his book.

However, the peace David hoped to find is quickly disturbed by the aggressive and hostile behaviour of the villagers.

Tension mounts when David refuses to join a local hunting gang and becomes the target of their violence and harassment.

The situation worsens when a group of men raid his house and rape Amy, setting off a series of violent events.

As David is cornered and harassed, he is faced with a difficult choice: give in to the violence around him or fight to protect what is left of his life and marriage.

The film explores themes of toxic masculinity, violence, repression and the clash between societal norms and primal human instincts.

"Straw Dogs" is known for its raw, realistic visual style and shocking depiction of violence.

The film provoked controversy upon its release due to its graphic content and its exploration of uncomfortable themes, however, it is also recognised as a cinematic masterpiece for its powerful narrative and the outstanding performances of Dustin Hoffman as David Sumner and Susan George as Amy Sumner.

The film received a BAFTA Award nomination in the Best Original Score category for the music composed by Jerry Fielding. It was also selected to compete at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival in 1971.

A remake was made in 2011 starring Kate Bosworth, James Marsden and Alexander Skarsgård and produced, directed and scripted by Rod Lurie.

Although a little brief and lacking appreciation of other aspects of cinematography (assessment of the performances, photography, editing, etc.), we appreciate an effective presentation of this film of important reference in what would later become the cinema of psychological horror and violence.
