Pimp, the 50 cent song has been playing in my mind for a while now. Every time it stops playing, some video or a memory makes it come back to stay in my mind again for a whole day, making me search uncontrollably for some way to actually listen to it. This happens to me because a while ago I saw anatomy of a fall, and, I say this with great certainty, it can happen to everyone who sees the movie.
Anatomy of a fall, the Oscar winner for Best Original Screenplay, the winner of the Golden Palm for Best Picture of 2023 and for me, the best film of the year, is undoubtedly a master class in how to write a great script without the need for many characters, how to direct your actors and how to put a film together.
Anatomy of a fall is a film about the trial of Sandra, a writer who allegedly murdered her husband. Sandra and Samuel are a couple who live in a cabin with their son and their dog. One day the boy goes out to walk the dog and when he returns, he finds his father's body in the garden of the cottage, and the only person in the house with Samuel is Sandra. A murder by a third person is immediately ruled out, then the doubt is created: was it a suicide or a murder? Here begins one of the most meticulously written trials I have seen to date.
I understand that trial movies are not for all audiences, but this is a movie that really doesn't let go from minute one, showing us only the specifics so that we are dancing between doubt and certainty wondering if Sandra murdered her husband or her husband committed suicide for some reason. At this point, there comes a point in the film where rather than wondering how, we begin to wonder why. What would Sandra gain by killing her husband, what would Samuel gain by committing suicide, why would anyone make such a strong decision when they have a child.
But beyond the script about a trial, the film touches on other issues in such a subtle but realistic way, that it becomes almost imperceptible until you watch it a second time and realize that it is not only a "who did it", but also a critique of society, a feminist film (it makes sense as it is written by a woman) and a real idea of how depression and life as a couple can attack a person in his or her middle age.
In addition, with one of the most tense endings I remember in a movie, anatomy of a fall will stay with you many days after you finish it, either for its script, direction, performances, soundtrack or theme, being one of those movies that no matter who you recommend it to, you will know that you have given a good recommendation.

Hace rato que Pimp, la canción de 50 cent está sonando en mi mente. Cada vez que deja de sonar, algún vídeo o un recuerdo hace que vuelva a hospedarse en mi mente otra vez durante todo un día, haciendo que busque sin control alguna forma de escucharla en realidad. Esto me pasa porque hace un tiempo vi anatomy of a fall, y, digo esto con mucha seguridad, le puede pasar a todas las personas que vean la película.
Anatomy of a fall, la ganadora de Oscar a mejor guion original, la ganadora de la palma de oro a mejor película de 2023 y para mí, la mejor película del año, es sin duda una clase maestra de cómo escribir un gran guion sin la necesidad de muchos personajes, de cómo dirigir a tus actores y cómo montar una película.
Anatomy of a fall es una película que va acerca del juicio de Sandra, una escritora que presuntamente asesinó a su marido. Sandra y Samuel son una pareja que vive en una cabaña junto a su hijo y su perro. Un día el niño salió a pasear al perro y al regresar, consigue el cadáver de su padre en el jardín de la cabaña, y la única persona que estaba en la casa junto a Samuel era Sandra. Un asesinato por una tercera persona se descarta de inmediato, entonces la duda se crea: ¿fue un suicidio o un asesinato? Aquí empieza uno de los juicios más meticulosamente escritos que he visto hasta la fecha.
Entiendo que las películas de juicio no son para todo público, pero realmente esta es una película que no te suelta desde el minuto uno, mostrándonos solo lo especifico para que estemos bailando entre la duda y la seguridad pensando si Sandra asesinó a su esposo o su esposo se suicidó por alguna razón. A este punto, llega un momento de la película dónde más que preguntarnos el cómo, empezamos a preguntarnos el porqué. Que ganaría Sandra matando a su esposo, que ganaría Samuel suicidándose, por qué alguno tomaría esa fuerte decisión teniendo un hijo.
Pero más allá del guion sobre un juicio, la película toca otros temas de una forma tan sutil pero realista, que llega a ser casi imperceptible hasta que la ves por una segunda vez y te das cuenta de que no solo es un “who did it”, sino también una crítica a la sociedad, una película feminista (tiene sentido pues es escrita por una mujer) y una idea real de cómo puede atacar la depresión y la vida en pareja en una persona en su mediana edad.
Además, con uno de los finales más tensos que recuerdo en una película, anatomy of a fall se va a quedar contigo muchos días después de haberla terminado, ya sea por su guion, dirección, actuaciones, soundtrack o temática, siendo de esas películas que no importa a quien se la recomiendes, sabrás que has dado una buena recomendación.
