TALK TO ME (2023) | MOVIE REVIEW [ESP - ENG] ✋🏻🩸

When I saw the premise of the film, I couldn't help but think of a Ouija style, as it is about a mystical hand that communicates with the dead. The film stars a young woman who lost her mother, which sends her into a deep depression, and her solace is her best friend and her best friend's family, who are a second family to her. Then, in a party style, they start experimenting with this hand and we immediately realize that soon things will get out of hand, because we've seen the formula, teenagers making use of supernatural artifacts without adhering to the rules of it.

It has high impact scenes, yes, and it's not about the dead that appear, that while they are scary and creepy, its horror goes beyond that, managing to gross you out, impress you and scare you without the need for loud noises and jumpscares, and it's not that I'm against cheap scares, because I quite like the Insidious saga, but achieving terror without needing these resources is a plus for me, I feel it's much more terrifying and convincing.

Al ver la premisa de la película, no pude evitar pensar en un estilo de Ouija, pues se trata de una mano mística que te comunica con los muertos. La película es protagonizada por una joven que perdió a su madre, lo que la lleva a una profunda depresión, y su consuelo son su mejor amiga y la familia de su mejor amiga, quienes son una segunda familia para ella. Luego, en un estilo de fiesta, empiezan a experimentar con esta mano y de inmediato nos damos cuenta que pronto las cosas se saldrán de control, porque la fórmula la hemos visto, adolescentes que hacen uso de artefactos sobrenaturales sin adherirse a las reglas del mismo.

Tiene escenas de alto impacto, sí, y no se trata de los muertos que aparecen, que si bien son espantosos y espeluznantes, su horror va más allá de eso, logrando asquearte, impresionarte y asustarte sin necesidad de fuertes ruidos y jumpscares, y no es que esté en contra de los sustos baratos, porque me gusta bastante la saga Insidious, pero lograr un terror sin necesitar de estos recursos es un plus para mí, siento que es mucho más aterrador y convincente.

Sophie Wilde's performance as Mia, our protagonist, is simply stunning, she's good, she's innovative, she's excellent, and totally deserving of the title "Actress on the Rise". You don't need to empathize with her character (it's unlikely you will) to appreciate how good her performance is and to crave more from our leading lady.

We must appreciate that this is an independent film, of the psychological horror genre, that plays with your emotions, without asking permission or apologies, takes you on a journey of emotions and sensations that will make you suffer from nightmares. Another remarkable fact about the film is that it was directed by two content creators, and it is their first feature film, sincere congratulations because creating such a good work of art, they are the RackaRacka brothers, owners of an Australian YouTube channel, the twins Danny and Michael Philippou.

Without giving spoilers, I try to avoid them in my reviews, I must say that my favorite part is the final scene, how shocking it is, the shock effect they caused me literally left me having nightmares all night long, and I know I have been insistent with this, but they achieve it without screamers or easy scares, it is simply terrifying to imagine living it.

La actuación de Sophie Wilde como Mía, nuestra protagonista, es simplemente impactante, es buena, es innovadora, es excelente, y totalmente merecedora del título “Actriz en ascenso”. No necesitas empatizar con su personaje (es poco probable que lo hagas) para apreciar lo bueno de su actuación y para tener ganas de más de nuestra protagonista.

Debemos apreciar que se trata de una película independiente, del género de terror psicológico, que juega con tus emociones, sin pedir permiso ni disculpas, te lleva en un viaje de emociones y sensaciones que te harán sufrir de pesadillas. Otro dato destacable de la película es que fue dirigida por dos creadores de contenido, y es su primer largometraje, sinceras felicitaciones porque crear una obra de arte tan buena, se trata de los hermanos RackaRacka, dueños de un canal australiano de YouTube, los gemelos Danny y Michael Philippou.

Sin dar spoilers, trato de evitarlos en mis reseñas, debo decir que mi parte favorita es la escena final, lo impactante de la misma, el efecto de shock que me causaron me dejaron literalmente teniendo pesadillas toda una noche, y sé que he sido insistente con esto, pero lo logran sin screamers o sustos fáciles, es simplemente terrorífico por imaginar vivirlo.

Personally I could give it a 10 / 10, and I don't always give that score, but when I do it's because my eyes have really seen something of very good quality, so I come to recommend this movie. I'm happy because my family thought it was good too, and hopefully I'm glad that a sequel to this wonderful movie that has been a box office success is already in production, surpassing Midsommar in the list of top grossing A24 horror movies.

Perfect to watch during this holiday season, Talk to Me will manage to scare you, and even disturb you. It's a horror film that I found refreshing, and I highly recommend it, even if it left me with a bad night's sleep. En lo personal podría darle un 10 / 10, y no siempre doy esa puntuación, pero cuando lo hago es porque de verdad mis ojos han visto algo de muy buena calidad, por eso vengo a recomendarles esta película. Estoy contento porque a mi familia también les pareció buena, y ojalá me alegra que ya esté en producción una secuela de esta maravillosa película que ha sido un éxito en taquillas, superando a Midsommar en la lista de películas de A24 de terror más taquilleras.

Perfecta para verla durante estas fechas, Háblame logrará asustarte, e incluso perturbarte. Es una película de terror que he encontrado refrescante, y la recomiendo bastante, aunque me haya dejado con mal dormir.
