There are movies or film projects that evoke all kinds of emotions, leaving you grateful to the industry for bringing those stories to life. And then there’s Los Feos 🤯—a film with one of the weirdest premises out there.

SYNOPSIS:

In a dystopian world 🌎, beauty is not just another aspect of society—it is what guides the community. Beauty is a collective dream, pursued by all.

In this dystopian world, children are raised in an institute until they reach the age for "the operation"—a cosmetic surgery that grants them a beauty universally accepted by society. Their level of beauty determines their acceptance.

Tally is the teenager through whom we will explore this obsession with achieving symmetry and perfection through surgery. Every 16-year-old is allowed to undergo the operation, transforming their entire life. They move from the institute, where they live without parents, to the city, where they have the chance to reunite with their families.

The climax of the movie unfolds when Tally accidentally encounters a group of rebels who claim that the entire beauty system is just a scheme to manipulate everyone.

UGLIES

So yes, the title of the film makes it clear that it will explore themes of beauty standards, the obsession with meeting societal expectations, and how the outcasts—the "uglies"—are the ones who end up saving the day and wanting the best for society.

You'd think that with all this material about beauty, the film would offer a deep message, reflection, or critique on the subject. But the truth is, the script is so full of gaps that the movie ends up being an ugly mess of absurdity.

OPINION

I have to say it—this movie is bad 💔. Not that the flyer or the title seemed interesting to me in the first place, but the description on Netflix caught my attention. I thought, "This has to be a joke." It wasn’t.

It’s a YA movie with a production style very similar to The Hunger Games, trying to connect a "social issue" with a societal uprising. They put in the effort, and visually, it’s eye-catching. The futuristic world-building is appealing.

The hook? Tally, played by Joey King—the lead actress from The Kissing Booth. Seeing her in the cast, I thought, "Alright, let’s give it a shot. Maybe it’ll be funny." ❌ It’s not.

The film is full of plot holes, inconsistencies, and absurdities, mainly because it revolves around beauty perception and societal standards. The premise is: "If you’re not beautiful, you have no rights or voice."

The "uglies" are the rebels, trying to raise awareness that "we’re fine in our own skin without the life-changing operation that allows us to fit in." Tally, despite being smart and questioning the system a little, genuinely dreams of becoming beautiful. The surgery is her ultimate goal.

But when she encounters the Uglies—the rebels who speak of The Smoke, a place where people live on their own terms—everything spirals out of control. Shay is a devoted follower of The Smoke, while Tally initially sees it as a dangerous cult. But as she spends time with them, she starts to question her own beliefs.

CONCLUSION

Honestly, after watching it, I felt guilty for wasting my time. The central themes are so absurd, and the way they’re handled is even worse. Like I said before, it’s visually appealing, but that’s just a pat on the back. I really wouldn’t recommend this movie—unless you want to get frustrated with what you’re watching and how the plot unfolds.

I give it a 3/10. Because guess what? After sitting through the whole thing, I thought, "At the very least, there’ll be a decent ending." Nope. THERE’S A SEQUEL. 🤯 So many great shows get canceled on Netflix, and then you see them greenlighting projects like this 👎.

No offense—if you liked it, great. But I spent the entire movie thinking, "I can’t believe what I’m watching." It was just a constant internal debate about how ridiculous the plot was. That’s how I experienced it. So, no, I can’t recommend it.

Hay películas o proyectos cinematográficos que te generan emociones de todo tipo y terminas agradeciendo a la industria por sacar ese tipo de historias. Y luego están Los Feos 🤯 una película con una premisa de lo más rara.

SINOPSIS:

En un mundo 🌎 distópico la belleza no es solo un aspecto más de la sociedad. Sino que es lo que guía a la comunidad. Es la belleza un sueño colectivo y perseguido por todos.

En este mundo distópico los niños son criados en un instituto hasta que llega la edad de "la operación". Una cirugía estética que le permitirá adquirir una belleza aceptada por todos y en función a su belleza podrá ser aceptado.

Tally es la adolescente con quien exploraremos esta obsesión por alcanzar la simetría y perfección a través de la cirugía. Todo adolescente a los 16 años le permiten realizar su operación y con ello cambiar toda su vida. Pasan de vivir en el instituto sin padres a la ciudad donde tienen la oportunidad de reecontrarse con los suyos.

El climax de esta película sucede cuando Tally sin querer se topa con unos rebeldes que aseguran que toda la imposición de belleza es solo una treta para manipular a todos.

LOS FEOS

Así que sí, el título de la obra nos demuestra que la película tratará temas sobre el canon de belleza, la importancia de la obsesión por cumplir estándares. Y cómo son los marginados/ los feos los que salvan el día y desean lo mejor para la sociedad.

Creerías que con todo este material a tratar sobre la belleza sería esta una película con un profundo mensaje, reflexión o crítica al tema. Pero lo cierto es que el guión carece de tantos vacíos que la película termina siendo un feo absurdo.

OPINIÓN

Sin que me quede nada por dentro debo decir que la película es mala 💔 tampoco es que con el flyer o el título me haya parecido interesante. Sino la descripción que aparece de la película en Netflix. Yo dije "esto tiene que ser una broma". No lo fue.

La película es juvenil con una producción bastante parecida a las películas de Hunger Games, buscaban hilar una "problemática social" con un estallido social. Se esforzaron y visualmente llama la atención. Tiene una construcción visual de un mundo futurista atractiva.

Tally interpretada por Joey King fue el gancho, la actriz protagonista del Stand de los Besos. Y con ella en el reparto dije bueno vamos a darle una oportunidad a lo mejor es graciosa ❌ No lo es.

Está llena de vacíos, incoherencias y absurdos. Precisamente porque se discute la percepción de belleza y el estándar como lo más importante en la sociedad. "Si no eres bello, no tienes derechos ni voz".

Y son los "feos" los rebeldes que buscan hacer conciencia de que "estamos bien" con la piel que vestimos sin la operación que te cambiará la vida y te permitirá integrarte. Tally a pesar de ser muy inteligente y cuestionar un poco el sistema realmente desea ser bella, y su sueño más grande es obtener la operación.

Pero al toparse con los feos, los rebeldes que hablan del Humo, una especie de tierra donde tú decides vivir bajo tus propios límites. Es cuando todo se sale de control. Shay es una firme seguidora del Humo. Y Tally piensa que es un grupo peligroso hasta que empieza a convivir con ellos y empieza a cuestionar sus propias creencias.

CONCLUSIÓN

Sinceramente después de verla sentí culpa de haberla visto es tan absurdo los temas centrales de la película y cómo son abordados. Como dije antes es llamativa a nivel visual pero es solo una palmadita en el hombro. Realmente no es una película que recomiende a menos que quieras enojarte con lo que ves y con el desarrollo de la trama. Yo le doy un 3/10. Porque adivinen, después de haber visto la película yo dije mínimo habrá un cierre decente y no. HAY SEGUNDA PARTE 🤯 Hay tantas producciones cancelada en Netflix que valen la pena continuar y luego ves el apoyo a este tipo de proyectos 👎

Sin ánimos de ofender, si te gustó genial. Pero yo solo veía la película pensando "no creo lo que veo". Una constante conversación interna sobre todo el absurdo de la trama. Así lo viví yo. Así que no puedo recomendarla.
