A film that stepped off the big screen 🎥 to bring to the table a series of topics that prove reality is stranger than fiction. 😪

I had zero interest in watching this movie, but I finally gave it a chance. While I don’t regret it, the story leaves you with a bittersweet feeling and a heavy heart because of everything surrounding it.

Breaking the Circle

This movie revolves around the romance between Lily Bloom (Blake Lively) and Riley Kincaid (Justin Baldoni). They met in a very casual way—Lily is a beautiful, somewhat bohemian woman chasing her dream of opening her own flower shop. Riley, on the other hand, seems to have a dream life: he is successful and "handsome." Their chemistry sparks quickly.

Despite how easily they connect, as the story unfolds, we see flashbacks of Lily’s past, marked by family issues and her first love. As for Riley, everything seems perfect—he has a reputation for avoiding commitment and constantly changing partners, but things seem different with Lily.

Aesthetics

I always like to talk about the visual aspects of movies because they catch my attention. In this case, flowers play a key role in the film, which, by the way, is based on a novel by author Colleen Hoover.

I really liked the autumnal color palette—dark hues combined with the presence of flowers create a romantic atmosphere throughout the film.

I believe there’s a metaphor in the film’s promotional poster, where Blake Lively is shown with flowers intertwined in her hair. It’s as if Lily herself is a flower, and they hold a subtle yet powerful significance in the narrative.

WHAT I LIKED

When it comes to the narrative thread, there’s a sort of haze surrounding Lily and Riley’s story. Everything seems as sweet as honey 🍯 in a beehive—they are a passionate, attractive couple with undeniable chemistry.

But there’s something particular about Lily—she always seems confused 🤔. In certain scenes, her expressions, nervousness, or insecurities don’t fully make sense, hinting that something isn’t as perfect as it seems.

The flashbacks to her teenage years and the domestic abuse she witnessed are clear signs that Lily is in trouble. In a way, she is reliving her mother’s life. A circle.

Later, when the movie reaches its climax, we finally meet Riley—his obsessive actions, his lies, his jealousy, and his justifications. I can say that Baldoni delivered a stellar performance; I completely believed all his violence, and I even felt fear.

Another thing I liked about the film is that it highlights the importance of a support network. Lily is not alone. She needs to reach her breaking point to realize she must leave, but when she does, there are hands to catch her. And that is extremely important because, in real life, that makes all the difference.

PUBLICITY & DRAMA

I knew the film was about domestic abuse. However, in multiple instances, this theme was treated as secondary, which, in my opinion, diminished its impact significantly. It’s a topic that should continue to be addressed, and cinema is a powerful medium to send messages about these harsh realities that, unfortunately, are still part of everyday life.

But beyond the film’s central theme, what has received the most publicity is the personal drama surrounding its production, led by Justin Baldoni. The director and the actress are facing off over multiple accusations, including "sexual harassment," "defamation," and more.

Who is right? That remains to be seen, as both have presented evidence that contradicts each other. The truth is that this controversy leaves us with heightened expectations for a possible sequel. 🥲

If Blake's accusations are true, then Baldoni brought abuse into real life, which is heartbreaking. It’s sad that these issues come to light suddenly amid a "box office success," turning everything into a scandal that overshadows the hard work of the actors.

CONCLUSION

I think it’s a good and entertaining movie with a powerful message. However, I was bothered by how little attention was given to Atlas, despite him being such a special character for the protagonist and playing a key role in the story’s resolution. Maybe they planned to explore both characters more in a sequel, but we won’t get to see that on the big screen.

The good thing is we can always read the books 📚 and get the full story. This seemed like a great cast, but well… things happened. 🥲

I’d rate it 6.5/10 because one thing I didn’t quite get was Lily’s character structure. She’s portrayed as this bohemian, romantic girl, yet at times she dresses like a total diva. 💅 That felt a bit out of place. Plus, there were reports that she was her own stylist and wore outfits that weren’t always approved. 🙆

Una película que se salió de las pantallas del cine 🎥 para poner sobre la mesa una serie de temas que dejan al descubierto la que la realidad supera la ficción 😪

Tenía cero ganas de ver esta película pero me motivé y aunque no me arrepiento. Siento que la historia te deja un sinsabor y el corazón apretado por todo lo que rodea la cinta.

Romper El Círculo

Es una película que gira entorno al romance entre Lily Bloom (Blake Lively) y Riley Kincaid (Justin Baldoni). Ambos se conocieron de forma muy casual. Lily es una mujer muy hermosa, un poco bohemia que está persiguiendo su sueños de montar su propia floristería. Mientras que Riley parece tener una vida de sueño, es exitoso y es muy "guapo". La química nace entre ellos de forma rápida.

A pesar de la facilidad con la que ambos conectaron a medida que transcurren sus vidas hay flashbacks de la vida de Lily y de cómo quedó marcada por problemas familiares y por su primer amor. De Riley todo parece ir bien,tiene popularidad de no mantener compromisos, y de cambiar de chicas constantemente pero las cosas parecen ser diferentes con Lily.

Estética

Como siempre me gusta hablar de la estética de las películas porque es algo que me llama la atención. En este caso, las flores juegan un papel importante en la obra, que debo mencionar está basada en un libro de la autora Colleen Hoover.

Me gustó mucho que los colores son muy otoñales hay paletas de colores oscuros y en conjunto con las flores dan todo un aire romántico a la cinta.

Creo que hay una metáfora desde el flyer donde se ve a Blake Lively en la portada con algunas flores surcando su pelo, es como si Lily también fuese una flor y estás tienen una importancia sutil pero firme en el hilo narrativo.

LO QUE ME GUSTÓ

Hablando del hilo narrativo hay como una especie de bruma en la historia de Lily y Riley, todo parece ir como miel 🍯 en el panal, son una pareja fogosa, atractiva, con mucha química. Pero hay una particularidad con Lily y es que siempre parece estar confundida 🤔 en ciertas escenas no entendemos sus expresiones ni sus nervios o inseguridad. Lo que nos indica que algo no es tan perfecto.

Estos flashbacks de su adolescencia y de cómo vivió el maltrato familiar es un indicativo de que Lily está en problemas y que está viviendo, de cierta manera, la vida de su madre. Un círculo.

Más adelante cuando la peli llega a su climax conocemos por fin a Riley, sus acciones obsesivas, sus mentiras, sus celos y justificaciones. Puedo decir que Baldoni hizo un papel estelar, le creí por completo toda su violencia y hasta pude sentir miedo.

También algo que me gustó de la cinta es que le dan importancia a la red de apoyo, Lily no está sola. Le hace falta llegar al límite para darse cuenta que debe salir de allí pero cuando lo hace, tiene manos que la sostienen y eso es súper importante porque en la vida real es lo que marca la diferencia.

PUBLICIDAD Y DRAMA

Yo sabía que la cinta trataba sobre maltrato a la mujer. Pero en múltiples espacios se dejaba ver el tema como un aspecto secundario, que para mí le restó muchísimo. Es un tema que está muy bien que se siga abordando y el cine es un espacio para enviar mensajes sobre estas realidades que no son ajenas a la vida diaria, lamentablemente.

Pero más allá del tema central de la película lo que más ha hecho publicidad es el drama personal que se ha generado en la producción a cargo de Justin Baldoni. El director y la actriz se están enfrentando por múltiples acusaciones entre ellos "acoso sexual", "difamación" y más.

¿Quien tiene la razón? Está por verse ambos han mostrado pruebas que se contraponen la una a la otra. Y lo cierto es que este drama nos deja con las expectativas en las manos de una segunda parte. 🥲

De ser ciertas las acusaciones de Blake, Baldoni llevó a la vida real el maltrato y es muy triste que este tipo de casos se desvelen de golpe en medio del "éxito taquillero" por completo un drama que opacó todo el trabajo de los actores.

CONCLUSIÓN

Creo que es una película buena, entretenida un con un mensaje poderoso. Me molestó que el papel de Atlas lo dejaron muy por de lado siendo él un personaje especial para la protagonista y que desarrolla todo el desenlace. Quizá en la segunda parte iban a explorar mucho más a ambos personajes. Pero nos quedaremos sin verlo en la pantalla grande.

Lo bueno es que podemos leer los libros 📚 y enterarnos de qué va todo. Este parecía un cast muy interesante pero bueno, cosas pasaron 🥲

Yo le doy un 6.5/10 porque algo que no entendí de la estructura de Lily, la chica bohemia y romántica, es que en ocasiones viste como Diva.💅 Y siento que eso desentona mucho. Además hay explicación de que ella era su propia estilista y usaba outfits que en ocasiones no estuvieron aprobados 🙆
