To the Forest of Firefly lights

”To the Forest of Firefly lights” is a anime movie, the story is about a child named Hotaru gets lost in the forest and was rescued by a spirit. The guy who rescued her his name is Gin Both of them became friends and he also revealed that he will disappear if any human ever touches him. As years passed Hotaru grew up and kept meeting Gin a strong bond is seen between them and ever since then their friendship blossomed.

Let’s move into the story!

A girl who’s name is Hotaru was going to her uncle’s house in the countryside. When she was waiting for the bus suddenly she remembered the moment when she met a guy named Gin. When Hotaru was very young at the age of 6 she was lost into a forest which was believed to be inhabited by spirits. Hotaru was crying for help then Gin came to help her out.

Gin was not a human and he revealed that to the girl and warned her not to touch him because if she does then he will vanish in the air. In the beginning she was confused why she could not touch him and out of curiosity she kept trying to touch Gin. Then slowly Gin hits her with a thin stick when she tried to get close to him. Later on she understood the assignment what to do and what not to.

After rescuing Hotaru when she was about to leave she had the desire to see Gin again. After that day Gin and Hotaru kept seeing each other. Then when summer holiday was over she had to leave the countryside and leave for her home in the city she also told Gin about it. Gin then asked her to come back again.

Hotaru kept her promise to Gin and their relationship grew over the years. When Hotaru got older, she got alerted about her relationship with Gin which has some limitations. One day Hotaru told Gin that she wants to find a job in the countryside when is has completed her graduation in high school, it was because she wanted to meet Gin often.

Furthermore, Gin shares the story of his journey. When Gin was a baby his parents left him in the forest. Then the mountain god casted a spell on him so that he can live as long he wants to. But Gin’s immortality came with a price that no human can ever touch or he can touch any and if he does then he will disappear.

One day Gin invited her to a festival which is held by the spirits. Hotaru indirectly by making a joke asked if this was their first date and Gin agreed about it.

After hanging out together for a while in the end of the night Gin confessed that he has feelings to Hotaru. After that he puts his mask on her face and kisses on it. This moment was very romantic like I was blushing while watching it.

Then they started walking somewhere and suddenly a boy was running behind them and was about to fall but Gin grabbed the arm of the boy.

Anyways, Gin started to disappear because it was child of a human. Gin before disappearing into the air he asked Hotaru to hug him.

Then Hotaru hugged Gin very tightly and he got vanished. She began to cry desperately because Gin will no longer be there for her.

Furthermore, spirits of the forest was showing up and appreciated Hotaru for giving Gin what he wanted which was to touch a human being. Hotaru by the pass of time gets over the pain and decided that she would visit her uncle in the countryside during the summer holidays.

So in the end when Gin died I was very confused that he touched that child by mistake or did he do that on a purpose?

Well, I know that Gin was not in love with Hotaru at first when they met, because there was a huge age gap back then. But as the years passed by she grew up and the relationship between them started to change. Hotaru’s real age was approximately close to Gin’s apparent age that’s why they started to have some romantic feelings. But I think that Gin’s death was not an accident but a choice he made for himself. I am having this though because Gin was very much in love with Hotaru and she also fell for him deeply. Their feelings for each other was mutual.

Gin could live for a long time in the forest because of the spell the forest God caster on him. But with the condition of no human being interaction. So, maybe the love he felt for Hotaru made Gin change his way of looking at his existence. Like maybe he thought if he can’t touch the one he loves this much then why he is still living? In addition, Gin use to feel that he was holding back Hotaru and making her not to live her life to the fullest like something is holding her back and that was no one other than Gin. Because Hotaru loves Gin and she wants to keep coming back to him. When Hotaru said she is planning to move to the countryside after high school that made Gin not feel ecstatic about it. Because he knew that she was doing it for Gin. He never wanted Hotaru to compromise her future. That’s why he even expressed that it would okay if she ever forgets him. Because he was planning to die anyway.

At the spirit’s festival he had his one last romantic moment with Hotaru. Also Gin said that that he can no longer wait to see Hotaru. It was slowly becoming painful and unbearable for him because he can never be with the one he loved. That’s why I think that Gin grabbing that kid was not an accident. Like he knows that if he touches then he will disappear and he didn’t ever make a mistake to touch Hotaru then why he would touch that kid.

Gin knew that Hotaru loves him and would never dare to hug him, even if he would ask her to. Hotaru knew that if she touches Gin he will vanish in the air. I think that it was only his way to use an excuse to hug Hotaru so that Hotaru would never guilty for touching him.

Also Gin planned his own death because he had the intention to stop holding back Hotaru from creating her future. Moreover, Hotaru knew that when the time will pass she will keep getting older than Gin. Despite knowing all of this still Hotaru wanted to be always with Gin.

Overall, ending was not something what I expected like it really made me sad and broke my heart, what I wanted it didn’t happen but the opposite thing. It was definitely worth of my time and I want to suggest you guys to watch it for once! This movie has made me cry in the end because of it’s brilliant dialogue pass and story. I really love this anime so so much. Also the animation was perfect! The most saddest part is that it ends and has no sequel to recover my broken heart. I loved the chemistry between Gin and Hotaru their love story was so lovely. Like if anyone wants to watch something meaningful then they can watch it also it’s short. Everything in this anime was top notch. When I was watching the movie I have gone through roller coaster of emotions.
