Enemy

It had been a while since I'd watched a movie, but I wanted to continue on the same foot as before my exam and my break, by watching psychological thrillers. It was hard finding a good one, and when I finally found one that seemed interesting, I was elated. But that elation was shortlived when the movie actually began. I bring you, Enemy.

PLOT

We are taken into the life of Adam Bell, a seemingly boring history teacher just living his boring around the clock life, until a coworker suggests a movie to him and he decides to watch it. While watching the movie, he sees a background character that looks so much like him, and it freaks him out. He becomes obsessed with this doppelganger and tries to get to him and uncover the whole mystery of why they look so alike.

MY THOUGHTS

This movie felt so dry from the start, I kept on asking myself a lot of questions upon questions. My biggest one was, "Why are you so obsessed with the fact that you found someone that looks like you?" I mean, if I found an exact replica of me, I'd be very excited and probably try to contact them and all that, but he made it so weird. It bothered him a bit too much. Eventually, you get why, but even then, it doesn't make so much sense. Then there's their next train of thought after meeting, it's just all so messy and didn't make sense to me. I won't go deep into that because I don't want to spoil it for you, but you just find yourself trying to understand the rationale a majority of the time.

Then there's the ending scene, the "crazy revelation" I was expecting, but it was far from that. The scene ended up leaving more questions than answers, and at the end of it all, it just felt like I wasted the 1hr 30 minutes I spent watching the movie. I was literally questioning my life choices at this point. At some point, I had to go to Youtube to help me break down the plot. After watching a couple of breakdowns on Youtube, it all made sense, and the movie felt a bit more bearable. But even with that, I don't see why I have to finish a movie, then hop online to watch people form their own theory and explain what I just finished watching. Or maybe I am just too dumb to understand it while watching the movie.

Either way, this movie was not for me. I saw a couple of reviews glazing the producers and deeming this a masterpiece. Anyway, it is a 2013 movie, so maybe that factors in as well. As far as I am concerned, if it was made in this time, the reviews wouldn't be the same. While watching, you'll see it's a budget movie, but the main characters acted their roles quite well (some side characters, not so much).

Well, not sure I can recommend this to anyone, but I'd give it a 4/10

I'm actually curious to see how weird it takes the whole doppelganger thing and why the movie was suggested to him but I doubt I'll see it anyways, your over all rating on the movie concluded the matter 😅

You can try it, you never know. These are my views after all. Dare to be curious 😁

I remember watching this one and kind of liking it but at the same time I don't know anything about it anymore. I guess it's one of those movies not for everyone.
