M3gan
A few days ago I woke up at midnight and I didn't really feel like doing anything so I decided I'd watch a movie. I had the intention of watching a horror movie, but I wasn't really in the mood to see something disgusting, so I settled for a thriller instead.
M3gan. I don't really understand why the name is spelled with a 3, probably to look cool, but to me it just looks weird. M3gan Is a thriller movie released late December last year. It takes us into the life of young Cady whose parents die in an accident. She is then taken to stay with her aunt Gemma who is a roboticist. Her aunt Gemma is tasked with taking care of her while also trying to build the best children's toy ever for the company she's working for. She decides to use Cady to help her test her latest invention M3gan. Cady and M3gan bond instantly, but soon their bond becomes too strong and things get out of control.
The movie for me was just ok. It's not really a theatrical masterpiece, but it does enough to keep you interested and entertained all through. I don't know what exactly it is, but it's very easy to spot a low budget movie and M3gan is one. Probably it's some of the cast who aren't the best of actors, there were a couple cringe scenes, especially from Gemma's boss. Or perhaps it's the cinematography and general feeling like there aren't enough people. But then the movie still does good.
One thing I liked about the movie was M3gan. M3gan was perfect. The look, she looks like a creepy doll, kinda reminds me of Annabelle. Her dialogue, the way she talked and how she behaved all through the movie was perfect. Best character in the movie by a country mile.
While the movie is not the most interesting, I liked the theme, and I think this is probably why the movie did well. So well, that they're actually working on part 2 (probably going to be a rip off, lol).
The concept of AI going sentient and taking over is one that has been done before, but this one feels a bit more real In a way. And the fact that we took a massive stride in AI this year with Chatgpt and the likes also helped to make it more relatable.
When I think of the things AI does at times it's actually scary. Imagining them going sentient is not too far fetched.
The movie makes us see that relying too much on tech isn't a good thing. And that genuine human interaction always trumps playing with our devices.
Overall I'd give it a 7/10. Just because of the AI theme. It really catches the eye and It makes one want to see it. Other than that it's pretty much your average horror movie. Except this one's not so scary. Now I'm really tempted to lower my rating a bit, but I'll leave it as it is.

I actually was surprised by this movie, it was a lot better than I thought it was going to be. It was actually quite violent and scary during some scenes.

I could never stand horror for the life of me. Even basic thriller has me screaming but I guess from a critic's point of view you can look at the cinematography and all of that, but for me that runs from everything horror, I don't know.😂

I have read another review about this movie earlier in this platform and I was impressed but unfortunately I was unable to watch it till now.

Writing M3gan with 3 also caught my attention, I still haven't figured it out, the other thing was to see how AI plays an important role and what we don't know about it in terms of the scope that one day it may have, it's scary hahahaha
The reason its with a 3 is cause the full meaning is Model 3 Generative Android. It still sounds silly cause they could have added an e and come up with a different meaning. Oh well, what's done is done.
Yeah, Ai could literally be the start of the Robot domination that we've pictured in movies like terminator and a host of others, lol.
