The school for good and evil. Movie review

Have you ever wished for life to be just white or black, no complexities, no technicalities, just plain white or black. Well this was what I thought when I saw the title of the movie that I am about to review..The school for good and evil .....if only it would ever the that simple

So I have had this movie just sitting down idly, never knew it would be an interesting movie...well, in a fantasy kind of way. I overheard my girl and her friends talking about it and that was when it came to me that I had the movie on my phone.

The school for good and evil is a 2022 American fantasy movie based on a book of same name. The movie was directed by Paul Feig and stars an ensemble of masterly artistes.

The lead roles were played by actresses Sophia Anna Caruso and Sofia Wylie as Sophie and Agatha respectively. The movie is a fantasy delight, one that I can say kept me glued to my seat and anticipating the next scene.

Plot

*Sophie and Agatha, two best friends who are exact opposites live in a small village called Galvandon. Sophie believing she was a princess longed to run away, leaving the mundane and ordinary life behind. The night she tried to run away, she was stopped by Agatha but alas, no one could stop a stymph after it has been called. So both girls were taken to the school for good and evil with Sophie being dumped at the evil school while Agatha was dumped at the good school.

To the dismay of both teachers and students alike, both girls are not willing to cooperate with anything that both schools had to offer. Sophie tries so hard to go to the school for good believing that she belonged there while Agatha simply wants to return home to her mother but none of their wishes were granted. They had to finish the course set out by the school's magical storian before any of them can get their wish*.

Review

I kinda liked how the movie started with both brothers dueling to show who was stronger unbeknownst of a hidden plot of death. I thought it would be a magical action movie with good always winning but then it switched from that to full fantasy. The transition from past to present was flawless and the twist in plot not giving any hints to the usuals is quite intriguing. I found myself making guesses of what would follow but then saw a different thing play out in a scene.

I also liked how both actresses interpreted their roles with charisma that I forgot it was a movie for a while. The revelations at each peak was so refreshing as well and the ugly duckling turns princess style that Agatha brought out in the movie through her empathy and deep love for her best friend Sophie was top notch. She proved to be a true princess, one worthy to be the prince's true love. I'm guessing there's going to be a sequel cos at the end, the magical storian said this is just the beginning. I'm rooting for a sequel and I do hope the director maintains the same ingenuity in the sequel.

I rate this movie a 3.9 out of 5.

Thank you all for reading...shalom.

I also watched this movie a long time ago and reading this brought it back to me fresh as if I am replaying it all over. Both girls did well. At first, I thought they wouldn't make it but they did. So interesting movie.
