let's talk about Alice Through the Looking Glass (ENG/SPA)
Hello, people of the internet, everything alright? Today I want to talk about one of my favourite Disney movies, it's a kind of reboot or inspiration of the world made by Lewis Carroll in his sequel book to Alice in Wonderland, this time taking the name of the book and some winks or references but with a totally different story.
Hola, gente de Internet ¿Todo bien? Hoy quiero hablar de una de mis películas preferidas de Disney, se trata de una especie de reboot o inspiración del mundo hecho por Lewis Carroll en su libro secuela de Alicia en el país de las Maravillas, esta vez tomando el nombre del libro y algunos guiños o referencias, pero con una historia totalmente distinta.
Although Alice may be the protagonist of both films, her co-star is The Mad Hatter, starring (and I stand up) the magnificent Johnny Deep.
Aunque Alicia sea la protagonista de ambas películas, su coprotagonista es El Sombrerero Loco, protagonizado (y me pongo de pie) por el magnífico Johnny Deep.
The plot seems a bit weird to me, I don't mean the Wonderland one but the Alice's world one, I feel it's both unnecessary and shoehorned in but here goes. Alice returns from a trip to China where she learns that her ex-fiancé is about to take her house unless she sells him her boat (no motivation other than revenge for the fact that Alice stood him up on the day of the engagement in the last film, I guess), Absolem (now turned into a butterfly) talks to her and convinces her to go through a mirror through which she arrives in Wonderland and meets her old friends, apparently the hatter is not well because he is convinced that his family did not die in the devastation of the Javerwoki's attack. The White Queen convinces Alice to talk to the Time Lord to somehow help the Hatter by going back in time, but he denies her request, logically, as time travel and changing the past can seriously affect the present, but Alice steals the Chronosphere (a time travel device) and begins her journey to try to change things in favour of the Hatter and his family, also discovering a secret involving the two queens of Wonderland.
El argumento la verdad me parece un poco raro, no me refiero al de Wonderland sino al de mundo de Alicia, siento que es tan innecesario como puesto con calzador pero bueno, aquí les va. Alicia regresa de un viaje a China donde se entera de que su ex prometido está por quitarle su casa a menos que ella le venda su barco (no hay motivación alguna más que por vengarse del plantón que le hizo Alicia en la película pasada, supongo) Absolem (convertido ahora en mariposa) le habla a ella y la convence de atravesar un espejo a través del cual llega a Wonderland y se encuentra con sus viejos amigos, al parecer, el sombrerero no se encuentra bien debido a que está convencido de que su familia no murió en la devastación del ataque del Javerwoki. La Reina Blanca convence a Alicia de hablar con el señor tiempo para ayudar de alguna forma al sombrerero volviendo en el tiempo, sin embargo este le niega la petición, por lógica, ya que viajar en el tiempo y cambiar el pasado puede afectar gravemente el presente, pero Alicia roba la Cronoesfera (artilugio para viajar en el tiempo) e inicia su viaje para intentar cambiar las cosas a favor del sombrerero y su familia, descubriendo además un secreto que envuelve a las dos reinas de Wonderland.
I have to say that the "Alice in the real world problem" is shoehorned in, that is to say, it adds absolutely nothing to the story and in fact it bores me, however, the story within Wonderland is much more entertaining and we explore the past of some characters such as the childhood and adolescence of both queens and the past of the mad hatter.
Tengo que decir que la "problemática de Alicia en el mundo real" está metida con calzador, es decir, no aporta absolutamente nada a la historia y de hecho me aburre, ahora bien, la historia dentro de Wonderland sí que es mucho más entretenida, y es que exploramos el pasado de algunos personajes como es la infancia y adolescencia de ambas reinas y el pasado también del sombrerero loco.
The performances as expected are very good, especially considering that we have legends like Anne Hathaway, Helena Boham Carter and Johnny Deep, especially the latter two who are the female-male counterpart of each other, both are multifaceted actors who have played a number of different characters not only in appearance but in personality, in this film both have absurd characters that are funny because of their dialogue and the way they interact with other characters and not just because of their appearance.
Las actuaciones, como era de esperar, son muy buenas, más teniendo en cuenta que tenemos a leyendas como Anne Hathaway, Helena Boham Carter y Johnny Deep, sobre todo estos dos últimos los cuales son la contraparte femenina-masculina del otro, ambos son actores multifacéticos que han interpretado una cantidad de personajes diferentes, no solo en apariencia sino en personalidad, en este film ambos tiene personajes absurdos que causan gracia por sus dialogos y la forma en la que interactúan con otros personajes, y no solo por su apariencia.
But if I love anything about this film besides Johnny Deep it's the cinematography, although it's almost all CGI (which is why it was so expensive to make) everything in the environment feels very realistic. The colour palette is quite colourful and striking, of course talking about Wonderland since the real world has a rather monochromatic palette with amber or grey filters and where the only thing that stands out is the colour palette of Alice's clothes which, visually, wants us to understand that she is as wonderful and strange as Wonderland.
Pero si amo algo de esta peli además de Johnny Deep es la fotografía, si bien es casi todo CGI (por eso salió muy costosa realizarla) todo en el entorno se siente muy realista. La paleta de colores es bastante variopinta y llamativa, eso claro hablando de Wonderland, ya que el mundo real tiene una paleta más bien monocromática con filtros ambarinos o grises, donde lo único que destaca en sí es la paleta de colores de la vestimenta de Alicia, lo que visualmente nos quiere hacer entender que ella es tan maravillosa y extraña como Wonderland.
It has few interesting shots like some immersive ones and a couple of Alice's subjective ones, however, the setting makes up for it completely. I think the staging is perfect, from the designs of the architecture in Wonderland to the composition of all the sets, it really is so immersive and visual that it makes you think you're inside the world which is, by the way, unusually beautiful, it's a bit like Narnia, you're dying to live there.
Tiene pocos planos interesantes como algunos inmersivos y un par de subjetivas de Alicia, sin embargo, la ambientación lo compensa por completo. Creo que la puesta en escena es perfecta, desde los diseños de la arquitectura en Wonderland hasta la composición de todos los escenarios, realmente es tan absorbente y visual que te hace pensar que estás dentro del mundo que tiene, dicho sea de paso, una belleza inusitada, es algo así como Narnia, mueres por vivir ahí.
To conclude, I have to say that another of my favourite aspects is the soundtrack, the truth is very good, extremely immersive in what you expect from an adventure film, it has some movements with chorus included, some soft melodies and other quite strong ones that even go In Crescendo to accentuate the climax of a certain scene. Very well done indeed.
Para concluir, tengo que decir que otro de mis aspectos preferidos es el soundtrack, la verdad es muy bueno, sumamente inmersivo en lo que esperas de una película de aventuras, cuenta con algunos movimientos con coros incluidos, algunas melodías suaves y otras bastante fuertes que incluso van In Crescendo para acentuar la parte álgida de determinada escena. La verdad, muy bien logrado.

Hola, no vi esta película, pero me encanta la paleta de colores, toda la ambientación y el vestuario. La historia es bastante llamativa, pero es algo que va bien con todo este mundo de maravillas.

Amo tus análisis, Alicia a través del espejo no me gustó tanto como la primera, sin embargo, desde luego que puedo apreciar el hecho de que los personajes tienen mucha más profundidad aquí, sobre todo El Sombrerero Loco y las hermanas reinas, jajaja por cierto que a mi también me da mucha risa la escena donde la reina de corazones agita la caja donde están los pobres familiares del sombrerero y dice "¡Terremoto!" 😄🤣
