Let's talk about Die Vampir Schwestern (The Sister Vampire) (ENG/SPA)
Hello, people of the Internet, today I want to tell you about a children's film that I really like. Of course, as an adult I see some "flaws" in it, which are just the demands of an adult point of view, but considering the audience it's really aimed at, it's quite good.
Hola, gente de Internet, hoy quiero hablarles de una película infantil que la verdad me gusta bastante. Claro que como adulta le veo algunas "fallas" que no son más que exigencias de un punto de vista precisamente adulto, pero teniendo en cuenta el público para el que realmente va dirigido es bastante buena.
The film follows the lives of Silvana and Dakaria, both of whom are half-vampire girls as they are the daughters of a vampire and a human, which gives them a unique advantage as they can fly, have more resistance to the sun, can sleep at night, have super strength and telepathy, can disappear and appear and can also choose to have a human diet (no meat or blood intake) if they prefer, However, neither of them are happy with this as Dakaria would prefer to have her full vampiric powers due to her flight range and speed being less than pure vampires and Silvana would prefer to be fully human, so she can stay in the sun for as long as she wants and not have to file her incisors every so often, as well as avoid the pressure of being discovered.
La película nos cuenta la vida de Silvana y Dakaria, las cuales son niñas mitad vampiro ya que son hijas de un vampiro y una humana, este hecho les da una ventaja única dado a que pueden volar, tienen más resistencia al sol, pueden dormir de noche, tienen super fuerza y telepatía, pueden desaparecerse y aparecerse y también pueden elegir tener una dieta humana (sin ingesta de carne o sangre) si así lo prefieren, sin embargo, ninguna de las dos está conforme con esto ya que Dakaria preferiría tener sus poderes vampíricos completos debido a que su rango de vuelo y velocidad es menor a la de los vampiros puros, y Silvana por su parte, preferiría ser humana completa para poder estar bajo el sol todo el tiempo que quiera y no tener que limar sus incisivos cada cierto tiempo, además de evadir la presión por ser descubierta.
So they both turn to a wizard who gives them both an elixir to give them their wish, which after midnight will become permanent, by mistake, the girls take the wrong potion, resulting in Silvana becoming a pure vampire and Dakaria a human, this makes them reflect that they should accept themselves as they are and that both parts of themselves represent their parents and both are equally important so they make a plan to try to get back to normality.
Así es como ambas recurren a un mago que les da un elixir a ambas para darles su deseo, el cual después de la media noche se hará permanente, por equivocación, las niñas toman la poción equivocada, resultando en que Silvana se hace una vampira pura y Dakaria una humana, esto las hace reflexionar acerca de que deberían aceptarse tal cual son y que ambas partes de ellas mismas representan a sus padres y ambas son igual de importantes, por tanto trazan un plan para intentar volver a la normalidad.
What I like the most is the costumes and the cinematography, with these elements exemplifying the duality of the two worlds, the human and the vampire. Let's say that the representation of the humans in the family is very bohemian, with a very light colour palette and soft fabrics, while the vampiric one has a monochromatic, dark and heavy colour palette, with fabrics like leather for example. Also, the representation of the vampiric world in Romania is quite accurate, in fact vampires live in caves (a clear reference to bats) and it seems logical to me because they want to avoid the sun as much as possible.
Lo que más me gusta es el vestuario y la fotografía, con estos elementos ejemplifican la dualidad de los dos mundos, el humano y el vampirezco. Digamos que la representación de los humanos en la familia es muy bohemia, con una paleta de colores muy clara y telas suaves, mientras que la vampírica tiene una paleta de colores monocromática, oscura y pesada, con telas como cuero por ejemplo. Además, la representación del mundo vampírico en Rumania es bastante acertado, de hecho los vampiros viven en cavernas (una clara referencia a los murciélagos) y lo que me parece lógico debido a que quieren evitar lo más posible el sol.
The performances and character development are also very good, even the secondary characters have their own development, as is the case with Helena and Ludo. The girls' parents are very charismatic, they have a nice marriage, they love and support their daughters equally. The only thing I found strange is the way they met, because Mihai was hunting her and when he tried to bite her he couldn't because she had a collar on, when he let go of her and they looked into each other's eyes, love at first sight happened. Let's say that if I had been the writer, I would write that Mihai hunted Elvira but when she realised, screamed and ran away, so later Mihai (who would fall in love at first sight) would have the task of apologising to her and try to get closer in a healthy way to form a relationship, but well, I wish I hadn't and as I said before, it's a story for children whose focus is mostly on the main characters.
Las actuaciones y el desarrollo de personajes también me parece muy bueno, incluso los personajes secundarios tienen su propio desarrollo, como es el caso de Helena y Ludo. Los padres de las chicas son muy carismáticos, tienen un lindo matrimonio, quieren y apoyan a sus hijas por igual. Lo único que me pareció extraño es la forma en la que se conocieron, resultó que Mihai estaba cazándola y al intentar morderla no pudo dado a que ella tenía un collarín puesto, al soltarla y mirarse a los ojos, ocurrió el amor a primera vista. Digamos que si yo hubiese sido la escritora, sí que habría escrito que Mihai cazaba a Elvira pero que esta, al darse cuenta, gritara y huyera, así posteriormente Mihai (quien sí se enamoraría a primera vista) tendría la tarea de pedirle disculpas e intentar acercarse de manera sana para formar una relación, pero bueno, quiera que no y como dije antes, es una historia para niños cuyo enfoque se centra más que todo en las protagonistas.
The vampiric situations and "strange" customs of the family feel everyday because of the naturalness with which the family portrays it and how they act, I liked that a lot.
Las situaciones vampíricas y costumbres "extrañas" de la familia se sienten cotidianas debido a la naturalidad con la que la familia la retrata y como actúan, me gustó mucho eso.
The "villain" of the movie is not very decent haha 🤣, let's say he is there to provide comedy and also put the conflict within the movie, this man is obsessed with showing everyone that his new neighbors are vampires since his mother was locked up in the asylum for affirming their existence, however we see that both vampires and vampire hunters have websites visible to everyone, so the existence of vampires should not be so secret, in fact the villain buys anti-vampire weapons online, so his motive for hating vampires seems poor and unsustainable to me, even if it is a film for children, it would have been better to say that he hated them because they scared him and that's it. His way of being is very parodic and not very credible, but it is understandable because it is to make children laugh.
El "villano" de la película es poco decente haha 🤣, digamos que está para dar comedia y además poner el conflicto dentro de la película, este hombre está obsesionado con mostrarle a todo el mundo que sus vecinos nuevos son vampiros ya que su madre fue encerrada en el manicomio por afirmar la existencia de estos, sin embargo vemos que tanto vampiros, como caza vampiros tienen sitios web a la vista de todo el mundo, así que la existencia de los vampiros no debe ser tan secreta, de hecho el villano compra armas anti vampiros en linea, así que su móvil para odiar a los vampiros me parece pobre y poco sustentable, aun tratándose de una película para niños, hubiese sido mejor poner que los odiaba porque le asustaban y ya. Su manera de ser es muy paródica y poco creíble, pero se entiende dado a que es para causarle risa a los niños.
In short, it's a very entertaining film to watch with children (children, nephews, cousins, etc) that has values such as family, accepting oneself as one is and friendship :3
En resumen es una película bastante entretenida que ver con niños (hijos, sobrinos, primos, etc) que tiene valores como el de la familia, el aceptarse a uno mismo tal cual es y la amistad :3
