let's talk about Frankenwinnie (ENG/SPA)
Hello, internet people. As you may know sometimes it seems that I don't like anything (at least talking about movie reviews) but the truth is that there are several movies that I love and this time I bring you the review of Frankenweneeie. Film by Tim Burton released in 2012.
Hola, gente de internet. Como ya sabrán, a veces pareciera que nada me gusta (al menos hablando de las review de películas) pero la verdad es que hay varias que me encantan, y en esta ocasión les traigo el análisis de Frankenweneeie. Película de Tim Burton, estrenada en el 2012
I loved the adaptation of Frankenstein that Tim did with this film, I loved that he adapted it to a child and his pet because it makes us generate more empathy. While in the original story Dr. Frankenstein makes his monster for ego reasons, Victor (a child) does not make a multi-part monster, he simply revives his little dog, but to better understand this aspect, we will talk more in depth about the story.
Me encantó la adaptación de Frankestein que hizo Tim con este film, me encantó que lo adaptara a un niño y su mascota ya que nos hace generar más empatía. Mientras que en la historia original el Dr. Frankestein hace a su monstruo por cuestiones de ego, Víctor (un niño) no hace a un monstruo de varias partes, simplemente revive a su perrito, pero para entender mejor este aspecto, hablaremos más a profundidad de la historia.
Victor Frankenstein is a very intelligent and lonely boy who gets along very well with his parents and whose only friend is his little dog Sparky. Victor is inspired by his new science teacher who has ideas that are way ahead of his time, so Victor asks his parents for permission to participate in the science fair. His father tells him that he will sign the permission as long as Victor plays sports, and we get to the first problem.
Víctor Frankestein es un niño muy inteligente y solitario que se la lleva muy bien con sus padres y cuyo único amigo es su perrito Sparky. Víctor es inspirado por su nuevo maestro de ciencias quien tiene ideas bastante más avanzadas para su época, así que Víctor le pide permiso a sus padres para participar en la feria de ciencias. Su padre le dice que firmará el permiso siempre que él haga deportes, y vamos con el primer problema.
Victor's father, far from reinforcing his son's intelligence and stimulating him in what he likes, forces him to do something that he does not like but that satisfies the father, that is to say that Victor's father pretends to live at least a part of his life through his son, and this is very wrong. In my school days I hated, but I really HATED doing sports, my thing was letters and languages, so I would rather sit and read a book than run under the sun behind a ball, however I was forced to do it, so I know how Victor feels, and it is sure that it happened to many of us, so this generates more empathy, and even more because of what happens during the practice of sports.
El padre de Victor, lejos de reforzar la inteligencia de su hijo y estimularlo en lo que le gusta, le obliga a hacer algo que no le gusta pero que si satisface al padre, es decir que el padre de Victor pretende vivir al menos una parte de su vida a través de su hijo, y esto esta muy mal. En mis días de escuela odiaba, pero ODIABA de verdad hacer deportes, lo mío eran las letras y los idiomas, así que prefería sentarme a leer un libro que correr bajo el sol detrás de una pelota, no obstante me obligaban a hacerlo, así que sé como se siente Victor, y es seguro que a muchos nos pasó, entonces esto genera más empatía, y todavía más debido a lo que pasa durante esa práctica de deportes.
Victor hits a fastball (it was baseball) throwing it out of the field, into the street, which causes Sparky to follow it and a car to hit him, and yes, Sparky dies. Here the film shows us the next issue: death and grief. Even though his parents support him and give him affection to make him feel better, Victor cannot cope with the loss, he is unable to see beyond his plans, projects or purposes, he lived life with Sparky, with him he used to play, make projects (like one occasion when he made a movie where Sparky was the protagonist) Frankenwinnie makes it clear to us from the beginning that the boy and the dog were inseparable, so the loss of the little dog also generates an ugly feeling in the viewer, since Victor was used to live life with Sparky, when he dies, it is as if part of Victor's life had abandoned him, this generates a feeling of denial and does not help him to resign himself.
Victor batea una bola rápida (era baseball) arrojándola fuera del campo, hacia la calle, lo que hace que Sparky la siga y un auto lo atropelle, y sí, Sparky muere. Aquí la película nos muestra la siguiente problemática: la muerte y el duelo. A pesar de que sus padres lo apoyan y le dan cariño para que se sienta mejor, Víctor no puede sobrellevar la pérdida, es incapaz de ver más allá en sus planes, proyectos o propósitos, vivía la vida con Sparky, con él solía jugar, hacer proyectos (como una ocasión en que hizo una película donde Sparky era el protagonista) Frankenwinnie nos deja claro desde un principio que el niño y el perro eran inseparables, por lo que la pérdida del perrito también genera un sentimiento feo en el espectador, ya que Víctor estaba acostumbrado a vivir la vida con Sparky, cuando él muere, es como si parte de la vida de Victor lo hubiese abandonado, esto genera un sentimiento de negación y no le ayuda a resignarse.
After a science experiment done by his teacher, in which through electricity he made a dead frog move, Victor gets the idea in his head that he can revive Sparky, and he succeeds, although this fact will trigger a host of problems later.
Tras un experimento de ciencia hecho por su maestro, en el que a través de la electricidad hacía que una rana muerta se moviera, Victor se mete la idea en la cabeza de que puede revivir a Sparky, y lo logra, aunque este hecho desencadenará un cumulo de problemas después.
And we return to the point where we talk about the empathy generated by the protagonist of this film as opposed to the film of the original story. Frankenstein, the original, only wanted to satisfy his ego and personal ambition (speaking of the first film not the book or posthumous adaptations) but the child, in this film was simply traumatized by the loss of his best friend who also saw him die and although it is questionable and strange that a child carries out an experiment like this, we feel that the end justifies the means because it is not hurting anyone, no matter how bizarre his behavior is, that's how good the story of the film is raised.
Y volvemos al punto donde hablamos de la empatía que genera el protagonista de esta cinta a diferencia de la película de la historia original. Frankestein, el original, solo quería satisfacer su ego y ambición personal (hablando de la primera película, no del libro o adaptaciones póstumas) pero el niño, el de esta película, simplemente quedó traumatizado por al pérdida de su mejor amigo al cual además vio morir, y aunque es cuestionable y extraño que un niño lleve a cabo un experimento así, sentimos que el fin justifica los medios porque además no le está haciendo daño a nadie por más bizarro que sea su comportamiento, así de buena está planteada la historia de la película.
Let's talk about the cinematography and mise-en-scene, they are amazing! The most remarkable thing about the film are its shots, it has interesting shots like for example the subjective shot of Sparky turning towards Victor when he is run over, or the next shot of this scene where the camera makes a close up towards Victor to portray his despair at seeing what he saw. The film has a monochromatic or black and white filter to remind us of the old first Frankenstein film, which makes it peculiar. The narrative and structure is so good that even without flashy colors it catches the attention of children, and that is also a plus.
Hablemos de la fotografía y puesta en escena ¡son asombrosas! Lo más destacable de la película son sus planos, tiene planos interesantes como por ejemplo el plano subjetivo de Sparky volviendo hacia Víctor cuando es atropellado, o el siguiente plano de esta escena donde la cámara hace un close up hacia Victor para retratar su desesperación al ver lo que vio. La película tiene un filtro monocromático o blanco y negro para recordarnos al viejo primer film de Frankestein, lo que lo hace peculiar. La narrativa y la estructura es tan buena que aún sin colores llamativos atrapa la atención de los niños, y eso también es un punto a favor.
The soundtrack is a gem, it reminds me of The Corpse Bride, it is enigmatic, cheerful at times, mysterious and also creepy, of the type of the horror movies of the 30's. In my personal opinion it is quite enjoyable, one of the things I loved most about the film.
El Soundtrack es una joya, me recuerda al de "El Cadáver de la Novia", es enigmático, alegre por momentos, misterioso y también escalofriante, del corte de las películas de terror de los años 30. En mi opinión personal es bastante disfrutable, una de las cosas que más amé de la película.
In short it is a bizarre film in its premise but very beautiful in its background, Tim Burton's art has always struck me as exotic and beautiful, so I enjoyed the film from beginning to end. Highly recommended.
En resumen es una película bizarra en su premisa pero muy hermosa en su trasfondo, el arte de Tim Burton siempre me ha parecido exótico y hermoso, así que disfruté la película de principio a fin. Altamente recomendada.

Una producción muy buena y recuerdo haberla visto es uno de los canales de la televisión, una de las cosas que me llamo la atención es que es a blanco y negro, sin duda la da un gran toque a la misma. Además la vida de ese pequeño niño no es la mejor y su pasión por la ciencia es algo increíble y no se da por vencido hasta lograr su objetivo. Más allá de eso, creo que el apoyo de los padres siempre tiene que ser importante y guiarlos en lo que a uno le guste. Gracias por compartirla con nosotros.
Sí, tiene un planteamiento interesante y unas criticas importantes, como la de que vivir a través de los hijos es algo reprochable, el hecho de que Sparky fuese atropellado durante las practicas de baseball que tanto quería el padre de Victor que el niño hiciese lo demuestra, está ahí en símbolo de protesta y es por este tipo de planteamientos y criticas dentro de la película, además bien colocadas en forma sutil y lo bien hecha que está lo que me enamoran de la película
Tengo que verla, tuve una época en la que me fascinaba el trabajo de Burton y adoro la animación en stop motion.
La verdad es que no hay film de Tim que no ame haha y la verdad es que esta película es una de las mejores
