The Shape Of Water (ENG/SPA)
Hello, internet people. Today I want to talk to you about a movie that I found quite bizarre but at the same time I was amazed, because Guillermo del Toro is one of the great directors that have made me fall in love with cinema, so let's break down this work of art.
Hola, gente de internet. Hoy quiero hablarles de una película que me pareció bastante bizarra pero que a la vez me maravilló, y es que Guillermo del Toro es una de los grandes directores que han hecho que me enamore del cine, así que desglosemos esta obra de arte.
𝓗𝓲𝓼𝓽𝓸𝓻𝓲𝓪 / 𝓢𝓽𝓸𝓻𝔂
I don't even want to tell you the synopsis (beyond what you can understand from the trailer) because this movie is one of those that you have to see without having any idea. What I can say in this section is that clearly the script has a good structure and the dialogues are very good, this in turn brings good dynamism to the film and makes a good set of scenes.
No quiero contar si quiera la sinopsis (mas allá de lo que puedan entender del trailer) porque esta película es de las que se tienen que ver sin tener idea. Lo que puedo decir en esta sección es que claramente el guion tiene una buena estructura y los dialogos son buenísimos, esto a su vez le aporta buen dinamismo a la película y hace un buen conjunto de escenas.
The story is more than particular and it is really a symbolism, you should not stay with what you see literally but in the background that is wanted to tell through this story. What I learned from the film is that no matter where you come from, how you look, or how different you are, in the end, we are all the same, we all feel the same way and that is why as living beings we should respect each other and live together in peace.
La historia es más que particular y realmente es todo un simbolismo, no debes quedarte con lo que vez literalmente, sino en el trasfondo que se quiere contar a través de esta historia. Lo que aprendí de la cinta es que sin importar de dónde vienes, como luzcas, o lo diferente que seas, al final, todos somos iguales, todos sentimos de la misma forma y es por eso que por ser seres vivos deberíamos respetarnos y convivir en paz.
𝓕𝓸𝓽𝓸𝓰𝓻𝓪𝓯í𝓪 / 𝓟𝓱𝓸𝓽𝓸𝓰𝓻𝓪𝓹𝓱𝔂
One of my favorite aspects of film composition. In this film, as curious as it may seem (being Thalassophobic and Bat-phobic) my favorite shots are all those that have to do with water and most of the film presents a subtle sepia coloration that is not that I dislike, it looks good and gives us that feeling of watching an old story, but the bluish colorations and the play of light that there is every time water is present in a scene, in my opinion looks much more beautiful.
Este es uno de mis aspectos preferidos de la composición de una película. En esta película, por más curioso que parezca (siendo Talasofobia y Batofóbica) mis planos preferidos son todos aquellos que tienen que ver con el agua, y es que la mayoría de la película presenta una sutil coloración sepia que no es que me disguste, se ve bien y nos da esa sensación de estar viendo una historia antigua, pero las coloraciones azuladas y el juego de luces que hay cada vez que el agua está presente en una escena, a mi parecer se ve mucho más bonito.
And it is curious because normally the sepia, amber, golden tones in photography, want to represent warmth and happiness, while the cold tones like black, gray, blue, represent the opposite, but in this Film, del Toro inverted this because his protagonist is a sea creature so what represents all the good things are the cold tones, he solved it by adding light and reflections, achieving a very nice and attractive effect, which makes us feel at ease every time Eliza (the protagonist) is in the company of our creature.
Y es curioso ya que normalmente las tonalidades sepia, ámbar, dorado en la fotografía, quieren representar calidez y felicidad, mientras que los tonos fríos como negros, grises, azules, representan todo lo contrario, pero en esta cinta, Del Toro invirtió esto debido a que su protagonista es una criatura marina, por lo que lo que representa todo lo bueno son las tonalidades frías, lo solucionó agregando luz y reflejos, logrando un efecto muy bonito y atractivo, lo que nos hace sentir a gusto cada vez que Eliza (la protagonista) está en compañía de nuestra criatura.
The shots are also very well cared for, I love how each one of them fits perfectly in what the scenes want to convey, it is an aspect that we almost do not realize but that plays a very important role, fundamental, better said.
Los planos también están muy bien cuidados, me encanta como cada uno de ellos calza perfectamente en lo que las escenas quieren transmitir, es un aspecto del que casi no nos damos cuenta pero que juega un papel bastante importante, fundamental, mejor dicho.
𝓢𝓸𝓾𝓷𝓭𝓽𝓻𝓪𝓬𝓴
It is an auditory delight from the beginning of the first track to the last. Some are more soothing and peaceful, others are imbued with a halo of mystery, while others even sound a bit "threatening" and of course, this is intended to make each interpretation accompany the scenes of the film very well. This is my favorite theme and if I'm not wrong, the main theme of the film:
Es una delicia auditiva desde que inicia el primer tema hasta el último. Algunos son más tranquilizadores y apacibles, otros están impregnados de un halo de misterio, mientras que otros incluso se oyen un tanto "amenazantes" y claro que, esto tiene como objetivo que cada interpretación acompañe muy bien las escenas de la película. Este es mi tema preferido y si no estoy mal, el tema principal de la película:
𝓒𝓸𝓷𝓬𝓵𝓾𝓼𝓲ó𝓷 / 𝓒𝓸𝓷𝓬𝓵𝓾𝓼𝓲𝓸𝓷
The end of the film gives us a pretty important revelation that connects to one of the scenes in the film and that is that (SPOILER ALERT NEXT) Eliza is a mermaid. If we analyze the film, Eliza has a fascination for water, it is also said that as a baby she was found near a river, she has marks on her neck (supposedly where her vocal cords were removed in a surgical intervention) however, by the end of the film, when the protagonist jumps into the water with her and heals her, we also see that the alleged scars of the surgery become gills.
El final de la película nos da una revelación bastante importante que se conecta con una de las escenas de la película y es que (ALERTA DE SPOILER A CONTINUACIÓN) Eliza resulta ser una sirena. Si analizamos la cinta, Eliza tiene una fascinación por el agua, además se dice que de bebé fue encontrada cerca de un río, tiene marcas en el cuello (supuestamente de dónde le sacaron las cuerdas vocales en una intervención quirúrgica) sin embargo, para el final de la película, cuando el protagonista se arroja al agua con ella y la cura, vemos también que las supuestas cicatrices de la operación se vuelven branquias.
And what I believe is that, knowing that the creature has healing powers, it rather healed the birth gills that were clogged. Also when we see that the creature "got sick" and its scales are falling off, it may be an indication that Eliza, seeing herself out of the water as a baby, also lost her scales. If the hypothesis were true, that would also explain Eliza's attraction to the creature and also the ending.
Y lo que yo creo es que, sabiendo que la criatura tiene poderes curativos, más bien sanó las branquias de nacimiento que fueron tapadas. Además cuando vemos que la criatura "enfermó" y están cayéndose sus escamas, puede ser un indicativo de que Eliza, al verse fuera del agua de bebé, también perdió sus escamas. Si la hipótesis fuese cierta, eso también explicaría la atracción de Eliza por la criatura y también el final.
It is a film that although it is very good in its story, it steals my sleep in its artistic section, that is, cinematographically speaking, it is a work of art and I am not surprised that it swept the academy awards at the time. Highly recommended although I must warn that it is not for all audiences.
Es una cinta que si bien es muy buena en su historia, me roba el sueño en su apartado artístico, es decir, cinematográficamente hablando es una obra de arte y no me sorprende nada que arrasara en los premios de la academia en su momento. Altamente recomendada, aunque debo advertir que no es para todo el público

Sin duda alguna en esta película no puedes quedarte con lo primero que ves, ya que representa tantas cosas a partir de las metáforas y además, el trabajo artístico es de lo mas avanzado de este gran director.
A mí me gustó mucho la música de Desplat, en cada película siempre lo hace genial y conecta muy bien con toda la historia.
