A Family Affair - Review and opinion - Very similar to another film [ENG-ESP]

It seems that love stories where there is a considerable age difference and mainly those where the older person is the woman are causing a furor. Recently became popular among many “The Idea of You”, a movie starring Anne Hathaway, where she falls in love with a very famous singer about 20 years younger than her, after reading several reviews of that movie it was inevitable that I did not want to see it, although I did not write my opinion because it seemed redundant in the opinion that many have about the right to love, the influence and detriment of social networks and so on. The thing is, I didn’t write about it.

Now Netflix has a similar movie in their gallery and just like the previous one it stars two A-list actors, when I saw Nicole Kidman and Zac Efron together it gave me shock, I can’t imagine what Nicole was doing while Efron was filming the teen series High School Musical. What I’m trying to say is that never in my life would I have imagined seeing these two actors pairing up in a movie and it’s not that I don’t agree that women have the right to fall in love and have a partner of any age, it’s just a shock 💥

Al parecer están causando furor las historias de amor donde existe una diferencia de edad considerable y principalmente aquellas cuando la persona de mayor edad es la mujer. Hace poco se hizo popular entre muchos “La idea de ti”, película protagonizada por Anne Hathaway, dónde se enamora de un cantante muy famoso de unos 20 años menos que ella, después de leer varias reseñas de esa película era inevitable que no la quisiera ver, aunque no escribí mi opinión porque sentí que era redundar en la opinión que muchos tienen sobre el derecho al amor, la influencia y el daño de las redes sociales y otros. El caso es que no escribí sobre ella.

Ahora Netflix tiene en su galería una película similar y al igual que la anterior está protagonizada por dos actores de primera. Cuando ví a Nicole Kidman y a Zac Efron juntos me causó un Shock, no me imagino que estaba haciendo Nicole mientras Efron filmaba la serie juvenil High School Musical. Lo que trato de decir es que nunca en mi vida me hubiera imaginado ver a estos dos actores hacer pareja en una película y no es que no esté de acuerdo en que las mujeres tienen derecho de enamorarse y tener una pareja de la edad que sea, solo que es un choque 💥

I don’t need to explain much about how the story unfolds because it’s predictable knowing the plot. Brooke (Nicole Kidman) is the mother of Zara, a young woman of 24, played by Joey King, an actress I remember from The Kissing Post, and yes, I am guilty of liking those movies a lot. Zara works as an assistant to Chris (Zac Efron) a famous movie actor and who already has her tired of so many meaningless demands, so much so that she got to the point of not putting up with it anymore and quit, never mind that this job would be a great springboard to fulfill her dream of becoming a film producer. In two years as Chris’ assistant, she never introduced her mother to her boss, until the day Chris goes to her house to see Zara and ask her to come back to work with him, and not finding her, he meets Brooke and they become enchanted with each other.

This enchantment and trust between these two characters for me was something super rushed and without any logic, I don’t know if nowadays we don’t use the preamble and the conquest anymore or when you are an adult these things go to the background and first you get to intimacy and then comes the falling in love. I don’t know if it just happened to me because the truth is I haven’t read any reviews of this movie, besides it was released on June 28, so it’s too early to know the opinion of many.

No hace falta que explique mucho cómo se desarrolla la historia porque es previsible conociendo el argumento. Brooke (Nicole Kidman) es la madre de Zara, una joven de 24 años, interpretada por Joey King, actriz a la que recuerdo de El puesto de los besos, y sí, soy culpable de que me gusten mucho esas películas. Zara trabaja como asistente de Chris (Zac Efron) un famoso actor de cine y quien ya la tiene cansada de tantas exigencias sin sentido, tanto así que llegó al punto de no soportarlo más y renunciar, sin importar que este trabajo sería un gran trampolín para cumplir su sueño de convertirse en productora de cine. En dos años como ayudante de Chris, nunca presentó a su madre a su jefe, hasta el día en que Chris va a su casa a ver a Zara y pedirle que vuelva a trabajar con él, y al no encontrarla, conoce a Brooke y quedan encantados el uno con el otro.

Este encantamiento y confianza entre estos dos personajes para mi fue algo super apresurado y sin ninguna lógica, no se si hoy en día ya no se usa el preámbulo y la conquista o cuando eres adulto estas cosas pasan a segundo plano y primero se llega a la intimidad y luego viene el enamoramiento. No sé si sólo me pasó a mí porque la verdad no he leído ninguna crítica de esta película, además se estrenó el 28 de junio, así que es muy pronto para saber la opinión de muchos.

What I want to highlight in this post is that I couldn’t help comparing these two movies, because I found many similarities. The main one is that she is older, in this case Nicole Kidman represents a 50 year old woman and Zac Efron a 34 year old man, that would be a difference of 16 years. In real life these actors have a difference of 21 years since she is 57 years old and he is 36. Another similarity is that he belongs to the world of show business, since very young he is an actor of action movies, a little egocentric and with some emotional gaps. Continuing with the coincidences, she is an older woman but quite jovial, with an only daughter who is old enough to understand that her mother is a woman who is still in time to be loved, it would be a little more difficult to explain all the age difference to young children, it would also complicate the romantic plot and it would be something more dramatic.

Actually I’m used to see Nicole Kidman in roles and movies with a little more substance, but it is also true that she is very beautiful and is a woman who is very well preserved, I could not say the same about Zac Efron, he has a spectacular body but I think he has had some retouching on his face because he looks different and he is not really old enough to look like that. I didn’t like it, he lacks naturalness in his face.

Lo que quiero destacar en esta publicación es que no pude evitar comparar estas dos películas, porque encontré muchas similitudes. La principal es que ella es mayor, en este caso Nicole Kidman representa a una mujer de 50 años y Zac Efron a un hombre de 34, eso sería una diferencia de 16 años. En la vida real estos actores tienen una diferencia de 21 años ya que ella tiene 57 años y él 36. Otra similitud es que él pertenece al mundo del espectáculo, desde muy joven es actor de películas de acción, un poco egocéntrico y con algunas lagunas emocionales. Siguiendo con las coincidencias, es una mujer mayor pero bastante jovial, con una única hija que ya tiene edad para entender que su madre es una mujer que aún está a tiempo de ser amada, sería un poco más difícil explicar toda la diferencia de edad a niños pequeños, además complicaría la trama romántica y sería algo más dramático.

En realidad estoy acostumbrada a ver a Nicole Kidman es papeles y películas con un poco más de profundidad, pero también es cierto que se ve muy linda y es una mujer que se conserva muy bien, no podría decir lo mismo de Zac Efron, tiene un cuerpo espectacular pero me parece se ha hecho algunos retoques en su cara porque se ve diferente y realmente él no está tan viejo cómo para verse así. No me gustó, le falta naturalidad en su rostro.

As you can see it's a simple movie, with a plot that I quickly compared to another recently released movie. But I think it wasn’t too bad, although I would improve the first encounter, it was meaningless and rushed.

Como ves es una película sencilla, con una trama que rápidamente comparé con otra estrenada recientemente. Pero creo que no estuvo tan mal, aunque si mejoraría el primer encuentro, fue sin sentido y apresurado.
