This police series based on the novel by Liz Moore not only deals with the death of female sex workers on a Philadelphia street full of addicts and homeless people, but we find a family drama between Mickey and Kacey, orphaned sisters who have been raised by their grandfather Gee and while Kacey turned her life to drugs and the street becoming an addict and sex worker, Mickey is a policeman and patrols the streets where his sister works.

En esta serie policial basada en la novela de Liz Moore no solo se trata de la muerte de unas mujeres trabajadoras sexuales de una calle de Philadelphia llena de adictos e indigentes sino que encontramos un drama familiar entre Mickey y Kacey unas hermanas huérfanas que han sido criadas por su abuelo Gee y mientras Kacey dirigió su vida hacia las drogas y la calle convirtiéndose en adicta y trabajadora sexual, Mickey es policía y patrulla las calles donde trabaja su hermana.

It all starts when Mickey and his new partner find a woman dead on the train tracks, apparently from an overdose, although Mickey’s experience makes it unlikely. This woman with pink hair makes him go into a state of shock, worried, he begins to look for Kacey whom he has not seen on the streets for a few weeks. At the same time other dead women keep turning up and Mickey becomes more and more worried about his sister and solving the murders.

Mickey is like many older sisters, protective, and more so in her case when they were orphaned as children and she had to play the role of mother to some extent for her younger sister. She feels guilty that she wasn’t there for her sister as she was losing her way and all because she was spending more time on her own life. Who can judge her for that? She was just living what was right for her age, making mistakes as we all do. A sad story of sisters carried by the current with no one to guide their steps.

Kacey as a child started drinking and using drugs, nothing good came out of it, with periods of abstinence and others of overdoses. A very sad street life, but like her many other women are on the street in the same situation, away from their families, parents have months without seeing them and only know that they are well when they reappear and the only thing left is to hope that nothing happens to them.

Todo empieza cuando Mickey y su nuevo compañero encuentran a una mujer muerta en la vías del tren, aparentemente por una sobre dosis aunque a Mickey por experiencia le parece poco probable. Está mujer con cabello rosa le hace entrar en un estado de shock, preocupada, empieza a buscar a Kacey a la que no ha visto en las calles desde hace unas semanas. Al mismo tiempo siguen apareciendo otras mujeres muertas y Mickey se preocupa cada día más por su hermana y por resolver los homicidios.

Mickey es como muchas hermanas mayores, protectora, y más en su caso cuando quedaron huérfanas en edad infantil y tuvo que desempeñar hasta cierto punto el papel de madre para su hermana menor. Se siente culpable de no haber estado allí para su hermana mientras iba perdiendo el rumbo y todo por dedicar más tiempo a su propia vida ¿Quién la puede juzgar por eso? Ella solo estaba viviendo lo que le correspondía a su edad, equivocándose como todos lo hacemos. Una historia triste de unas hermanas llevadas por la corriente sin nadie que guiará sus pasos.

Kacey desde muy niña empezó a beber y consumir drogas, nada bueno sale de eso, con periodos de abstinencia y otros de sobredosis. Una vida de calle muy triste, pero así como ella muchas otras mujeres se encuentran en la calle en la misma situación, alejadas de sus familias, los padres tiene meses sin verlas y solo saben que están bien cuando reaparecen y lo único que les queda es esperar que nada les pase.

During the investigation Mickey only trusts her former partner Truman, as he knows her story and the only one who can help her since for many reasons she suspects that her co-workers are hiding things or just don’t care that they are murdering the women on the street. The ending of Mickey and Truman’s relationship shows the kind of person Truman is and I really liked that.

Amanda Seyfried’s performance in the character of Mickey, very beautiful, I started watching the series because I saw her on the cover and also because it is the kind of series I like, but she was exquisite, I loved it. The scenes in the street made me feel uncomfortable to think how there are people who let themselves go to that point where they only work to be able to consume and half eat. I’ve read that they compare this series to True Detective and actually while I watched it I felt no more connection than some cops (without authorization) investigating some homicides but also looking for a missing sister.

Durante la investigación Mickey solo confía en su ex compañero Truman, pues él conoce su historia y el único que la puede ayudar ya que por muchas razones sospecha que sus compañeros de trabajo ocultan cosas o simplemente no les interesa que estén asesinando a las mujeres de la calle. El final de la relación de Mickey y Truman demuestra la clase de persona que es Truman y eso me gustó mucho.

La actuación de Amanda Seyfried en el personaje de Mickey, muy bella, empecé a ver la serie por qué la vi en portada y además porque es el tipo de serie que me gustan, pero ella estuvo exquisita, me encantó. Las escenas en la calle me hicieron sentir incómoda de pensar como hay gente que se deja llevar hasta ese punto en el que solo trabajan para poder consumir y medio comer. He leído que comparan está serie con True Detective y en realidad mientras la vi no sentí más conexión que unos policías (sin autorización) investigando unos homicidios per también buscando a una hermana perdida.
