Review of the series The White Lotus [ENG-ESP]

I finish the third season of The White Lotus and as in the previous ones I bring you what I thought of the season without telling you much about the end, which although it is not the most important thing, each season begins with a murder and in the development of the chapters we discover or at least we want to believe who will be involved in the murder. When I say that it is not the most important thing, it is because this series is not about discovering who will be the dead but rather to meet a group of people who are in resort that this time is in Thailand.

Terminó la tercera temporada de The White Lotus y como en las anteriores les traigo lo que me pareció la temporada sin contarles mucho sobre el final, que aunque no es lo más importante, cada temporada empieza con un asesinato y en el desarrollo de los capítulos vamos descubriendo o al menos eso queremos creer quienes serán los involucrados en el homicidio. Cuando digo que no es lo más importante, es porque está serie no se trata de descubrir quien será el muerto sino más bien de conocer a un grupo de personas que se encuentran en resort que en esta ocasión se encuentra en Tailandia.

We already knew two locations of this resort, in the first season the one located in Hawaii and in the second season in Italy, now we go to Asia where they come on vacation for a week a particular group of guests. A family with a rather unfriendly mother, one of those people who see everyone with superiority and people stress her, so she must always be sedated to see life lightly, a father with a concern that leads him to think of the worst solutions to the problems and prevent his family from suffering the consequences of their actions, privileged children with different gender and identity issues who are not prepared to lose what they have grown up with.

Ya conocimos dos sedes de este resort, en la primera temporada el ubicado en Hawái y en la segunda temporada en Italia, ahora nos vamos a Asia donde llegan de vacaciones por una semana un grupo particular de huéspedes. Una familia adinera, con una madre bastante antipática, de las personas que ven a todos con superioridad y la estresan las personas, por lo que debe andar siempre sedada para ver la vida de manera ligera, un padre con una preocupación que lo lleva a pensar en las peores soluciones para los problemas y evitar que su familia sufra las consecuencias de sus actos, unos hijos privilegiados con diferentes problemas de sexo e identidad que no están preparados para perder con lo que han crecido.

Other guests are three lifelong friends who meet again, but although their friendship and affection is still intact, distance, criticism and past grudges come to the surface as they live together. I quite liked this group because although they told each other their truths or talked to each other behind each other’s backs, you could see the concern for each other’s lives. Friendships between women are complicated, we love to talk and get into the lives of the people we love 🤭.

Otros de los huéspedes son tres amigas de toda la vida que se reencuentran, pero aunque la amistad y el cariño sigue intacto, la distancia, críticas y los rencores del pasado salen a flote con la convivencia. Este grupo me gustó bastante porque aunque se decían sus verdades o hablaban entre ellas a sus espaldas, se notaba la preocupación por sus vidas. Las amistades entre mujeres son complicadas, nos encanta hablar y meternos en las vidas de las personas que queremos 🤭.

We also have couples of old, bald, rich, white men with girls much younger than them. If this was the most salient social criticism that Mike White added to the season I must say that his conclusion is that these girls are not necessarily with old, rich men for the money, but they do it for love. Well, I don’t think that’s true in all cases, but here they were all in love. I don’t want to sound prejudiced like certain unsympathetic characters in the series but that’s what I think.

Although one of those couples I really liked, Rick and Chelsea, although Rick is not bald yet, he has been with Chelsea for quite a few years, but from the first moment you can feel the consideration, tolerance and support she shows him, although he is distant and in some cases even rude. Rick a man with a childhood trauma who went to Thailand to look for answers and the solutions he believes he deserves. The development of these characters I liked until the last moment when she who always spoke very well of him says something like they were like Yin and Yang, she was the light and Rick the suffering, that at some point one of the two had to win, that’s why I was excited when he arrives from his trip to Bangkok where the light had healed the suffering.

También tenemos parejas de hombres blancos, viejos, calvos y ricos con muchachas muy menores a ellos. Si esto fue la crítica social más resaltante que Mike White agregó a la temporada debo decir que su conclusión es que no necesariamente estás chicas están con hombre viejos y ricos por el dinero, sino que lo hacen por amor. Bueno, yo no creo que sea así en todos los casos, pero aquí todas estaban enamoradas. No quiero sonar prejuiciosa como ciertos personajes antipáticos del la serie pero es lo que pienso.

Aunque una de esas parejas si me gustó mucho, la de Rick y Chelsea, aunque Rick todavía no está calvo, si le lleva bastantes años a Chelsea, pero desde el primer momento se siente la consideración, tolerancia y el apoyo que ella le demuestra, aunque él se muestre distante y en algunos casos hasta grosero. Rick un hombre con un trauma de la infancia que fue a Tailandia a buscar respuesta y las soluciones que el cree merecer. El desarrollo de estos personajes me gustó hasta el último momento en el que ella que siempre habló muy bien de él dice algo como que ellos eran como el Yin y el Yang, ella era la luz y Rick el sufrimiento, que en algún momento uno de los dos tenía que ganar, por eso me emocioné cuando el llega de su viaje a Bangkok donde la luz había sanado el sufrimiento.

I can’t compare this season with the previous ones because its rhythm is a little slower, in a couple of episodes nothing remarkable happened but we got to know every last feeling and thought of each of the main characters in a very intimate way, because nothing is kept back, fears, prejudices, traumas, preferences, grudges and etc. Come to light. Regarding the plot with the employees of the resort, in my opinion it was a little insipid (not like in the first one) here the employees had security problems, migration and silly love affairs. The inclusion of characters from previous seasons is the continuation of two stories with their own problems, I think the characters needed an extension of their lives and maybe we don't need to see them anymore.

It is worth mentioning the soundtrack, as in previous seasons it is fantastic, very much in line with the setting which is beautiful, although I said that I loved Hawaii, the truth is that the scenery in Thailand is much more beautiful, even the monkeys are beautiful. Although it may seem slow, you just have to appreciate the development and the knowledge to understand. Yes I liked it although for me the favorite is the second one, it had more action and the characters were crazy. Anyway I recommend it and enjoy the season, it’s what I was waiting for.

No puedo comparar esta temporada con las anteriores ya que su ritmo es un poco más lento, en par de episodios no pasaba nada resaltante pero se iban conociendo hasta el último sentimiento y pensamiento de cada uno de los personajes principales de una manera muy íntima, porque no se guardan nada, salen a relucir miedos, prejuicios, traumas, preferencias, rencores y etc. Con respecto a la trama con los empleados del resort a mi parecer fue un poco insípida (no como en la primera) aquí los empleados tuvieron problemas de seguridad, migración y amores tontos. La inclusión de personajes de las temporadas anteriores es la continuación de dos historias con sus propios problemas, que la verdad no me molestó en lo absoluto, creo que los personajes requerían de una ampliación de sus vidas y quizás los sigamos viendo.

Cabe resaltar el soundtrack, como en las temporadas anteriores es fantástico, muy acordé a la ambientación que es hermosa, que aunque dije que Hawái me había encantado, la verdad es que el escenario en Tailandia es mucho más hermoso, hasta los monos son bellos. Aunque puede parecer lenta, solo tienes que apreciar ese desarrollo y el conocer para entender. Si me gustó aunque para mí la favorita es la segunda, tuvo más acción y los personajes eran una locura. De todas maneras la recomiendo y disfruté de la temporada, es lo que estaba esperando.
