CineTv contest - Alice through the looking Glass (A lesson from time)
I have watched a lot of movies on time, but none seemed more accurate than this particular movie. Goes to show that the writer really did his homework. Usually, when it comes to movies that deal with time travel, we see the actors going back in time and changing a thing or two to improve their future, but only to discover that their changes have actually done more harm than good and that the past is best left being in the past. In this movie, it wasn't so.
PLOT
This movie is a franchise and a continuation of Alice in Wonderland from 2010. It began from the adult life of Alice, who was now sailing her father's ship round the world after his demise. She appeared to be a good sailor venturing into dangerous waters in attempts to escape from sea pirates.
Alice doesn't believe anything is impossible, and this mindset has saved her and her crew from a lot of harm and captivity. Unfortunately, Alice Voyage was placed on hold when her mother, due to their financial problems, gave up their house to the authorities, who are also in demand of Alice's father's ship. While Alice battled her own problem with her ex-fiancé, who was the new ruler after his father's demise, Alice got a visit from Absolem the butterfly, who led her through a dressing mirror. Alice soon found herself in Wonderland again to save her friend the Mad Hatter, who was losing himself over the demise of his family, He now suspected weren't deceased but actually alive somewhere.
In order to find out exactly what happened to the Mad Hatter's family, whom everyone including Alice thought was dead, Alice needs to go back in time to the day of their attack. While Alice hoped to try and stop the attack and save the Hatter's family, she soon derailed from her original intent when she paid a visit to Time to borrow his Cronostone, which acts as a time machine.
While time refused to loan the Cronostone to Alice, as it was the small light ball that keeps the entire existence intact, Alice, who desperately wanted to save her friend, stole the time Cronostone, which ultimately puts time and everything else in creation under the brink of collapse and destruction.
Again, In Alice's adventures to save Hatter's family, she soon discovered the actual reason why the White Queen and the Red Queen do not get along, which was the root cause of the entire conflict in the movie that also involved the Hatter and his family.
MY TAKE ON THE MOVIE
In Alice Through the Looking Glass, from the conversation that Alice had with time on their first encounter, I saw that we cannot really change the past which was evident in the movie because no matter how hard Alice tried, the past still acted in a different way which yielded the same result. It was in that moment Alice realized what Time meant by "you cannot change the past ; rather, you learn from it." This line immediately catapulted my mind back to my secondary school days during art class.
In that time, whenever we draw and make mistakes, we ask for erasers to erase it and then try again. While such practices were allowed, we got a new art teacher who frowned at us using an eraser to aid our drawing. According to him, real artists do not erase their mistakes to correct them but draw the necessary corrections on the mistakes. I did try drawing on my mistakes, but that just led me to creating several abominations in the name of art, lol.
It didn't really make sense to me then, drawing on our mistakes to produce art, but sitting in front of my TV screen and watching this movie, I got my Eureka moment after over a decade. It wasn't just about drawing on our mistakes to correct them, but actually learning the pattern of such acts to enable us to effectively correct our wrong from existing mistakes. It's just like reality, we can never go back to undo our actions two seconds ago because time is continuously flowing in linear motion without disruptions. All we could do, is learn from what has been to effectively act on it in the present, for a better outcome in the future.
Given the relationship between the Red Queen and the White Queen, I do not agree that villains are made. Basically we all have equal amount of good and evil embeded in our subconscious, what makes us individually different is our will of choice. There are people who go through the worse but remain resolute to walk in the part of righteousness.
What really prompted me to watch this movie was when I saw the trailer and I read comments of people saying the White Queen's lie against the Red Queen when they were little, caused her to turn bad. But watching the movie, I saw that the Red Queen was an inherent bully who just ended up acting her true self later on. As for the White Queen, I reaffirmed that the concept of perfection is flawed because one way or the other, it's only a matter of time before we find ourselves acting contrary due to certain circumstances that life might present.
In all this is a very good watch, a lot to learn and reflect upon. I'd rate it 8/10

Wow! I didn't know there's a continuation of Alice in Wonderland.
It's true, we can't change the past, we can only influence the future.
The Red Queen, in particular, seems to be the type to exploit situations to place blame on another person.
I really enjoyed reading this, well done:)
Exactly, you explained her character so well. She's not only a bully but also a user.. I'm glad you had a good time reading 😊
