Movie review - The perfect guy
Ever heard of the saying careful what you wish for? Yeah, that's basically the message that I got in the last one hour, thirty nine minutes spent on this movie. So I'm gonna do a brief summary, then dive right into exactly how the movie made me feel.
Leah, a woman in her 30s, felt that she had “dated out” in the two years being with Dave. While she wanted to start a family, Dave would rather remain a boyfriend and not a husband nor a father.
Both Dave and Leah wanting different things out of their relationship, led Leah to ending things with Dave.
In a short while, after three months, Leah started off with Carter, a man who has been low key stalking her. While Carter seemed like the perfect guy, Leah was soon to discover so many things about him that she did not bargain for.
I watched this movie a long time ago while still in Uni. Not until recently when I was surfing Facebook and I saw a trailer of the movie, it felt really different so I decided to watch it again.
If there's one thing that made this movie stand out for me, it is how the main character Leah didn't cower in the face of abuse. Well, at one point she was almost losing it, but she was wise enough to seek advice from the detective in charge of her case with Carter. Leah didn't just seek advice, she turned the table perfectly and lured the abusive Carter using his own tactics against him.
While the movie was ok, there were so many dumb scenes that in the real world, it would have been different. Regardless, I try to understand that it's just a way to build plot and give us a good over an hour movie run time.
Ok, let us look at some of the dumb scenes together: Basically it's a no-brainer that when dealing with an abuser or a stalker, the first thing to do is to change the locks of the house. But somehow, Leah didn't do that knowing fully well that Carter had seen her collect her spare keys where she kept them.
Again, during the period that she saw Carter for the psycho that he truly is and filed a restraining order against him, Leah still did not move her spare key to a different location.
Another dumb scene was when Leah's neighbour caught Carter breaking into Leah's house. While she managed to escape to her house and locked the front door, she didn't run to hide in a safe place while inside the house. She just stood in the sitting room panicking, watching Carter try to break into her home. I mean, in such a critical situation this woman didn’t even call 911. She was just waiting to be annihilated and it was indeed a sad watch.
Personally, I didn't like that Dave had to die. That is why I will never get involved with anyone who has a troubled ex. If they can't deal with their ex, do not get involved, that's my rule. Life is too precious to be dying over someone's lapses. Even though I understand the need to protect someone that we love, sometimes, a little selfishness could save us.
In conclusion, it pays to not jump into things and not being desperate will save us from life's hiccups and troubles. I mean, it's funny how Leah didn't take Dave to her parents but she was quick to take Carter she just met simply because he kept telling her what she wanted to hear. And it's even funnier when Carter wanted to make her a wife and a mom, she ran lol she learnt her lesson. But still, I loved how she started looking out for every other woman that Carter tried to get involved with and even warned them.
For me, that's a healthy practice that both men and women should try. If you dated a psychopath, be your brother's and your sister's keeper by presenting a timely warning to the next potential victim.
I'd say that s a good watch and I'd give it a 7/10.

For Leah's mistakes, I'm trying to come up with excuses for her. Must have been really tough on her. But at least, she got free of Carter(I hope).
The plot isn't unfamiliar, but I do like it. The part about Leah looking out for other of Carter's partners is wholesome. It caught my attention.
