Movie Review - Tyler Perry Duplicity.
I found it quite unfair that this movie was scoring a 4.6 on IMDb because, for me, the movie was not all that mediocre. The characters were top-notch, and the acting was quite realistic. But the storyline felt a little draggy, and the movie seems a little overcrowded with character play, but it still feels unfair to rate it a 4.6 because the plot twist was fire. Although I suspected it, I did not see that ending coming because I literally screamed. The question is, how do you ignorantly help your enemies? Well, as we contemplate this question, let’s go through the plot without spoiling the good part. So Marley was a high-profile lawyer who never lost a case. She has a brother, Rodney, who is married to her best friend, Fela, and life seemed fair. Along the line, she started a relationship with Tony, a police officer who had issues with the force and was dismissed unjustly. Fela played the matchmaker when she introduced Marley to Tony so she could help him get justice, and justice she got for him with a settlement from the government. From there their relationship blossomed, and they became a couple. I did quite like the chemistry between Marley and Tony. I found it charming.
Again, while Marley and Tony were hitting it off with their relationship, Fela and Rodney's marriage was at the brink of collapse, and while Marley tried to help, there was a whole lot going on in the background, and along the line, her brother was murdered by the police. Determined to get justice, Marley took up the case. It was not just a fight for her deceased brother but also an attempt to get her widowed best friend settled since she was barely making ends meet from her career, and according to her, Rodney was the one who took care of everything.
It was a fight that almost seemed impossible to win given the circumstances surrounding Rodney's death, but Marley wasn't one to accept defeat, and while she won with a 15 million dollar settlement, the real story was about to unfold. Lies, betrayal, deceit, and the truth that almost cost Marley her life. As the story unfolds, it becomes clear that Marley, despite trying to do what's right, just might have played into the hands of the bad guys and helped get the wrong person in trouble with the law.
My thoughts on the movie: So I'm going to do a little better than the folks on IMDb and rate this movie a 6/10. Like I said earlier, it's not completely mediocre, although it should be watched with careful attention. At a point, I got lost in the plot twist and had to go back to understand the characters and their names—lol, that's how crazy it was. Plus, summing the whole play together to reach the concluding part felt a bit rushed, like a child who went from crawling to running. More so, the acting for me, especially for the Marley character, felt a bit overplayed, and towards the ending, Fela was now doing too much with her character. Let me not even start talking about her makeup that tried to force the bad girl look on her.
Although the movie felt off, I had a good time watching it, and a little more effort by the writer would have possibly made it Oscar-worthy.

This film sounds familiar to me... 🤔
But who gives these scores, the users of the platform?
Yeah some like that. Anyone who can access IMDb and have an account can give a review
It's been a while I saw something of Tyler Perry though. I love the deep message always embedded in his movies. Though I've not watched it yet but I know it'll be great.
You'd love it because it really did have a deep message
