So far with al th animes I have seen, this is not the best but I rate this anime a 7/10. Let's say I enjoyed it (I am not that easily impressed so don't scream if you love this anime more than what I rate it) besides it is just my little opinion haha

If you ever wondered whether Japanese artists has access to the same level of hallucinogens as Sid and Marty Kroft or Terry Gillam, then you are oblivious as to existence of Studio Ghibli. The Boy and the Heron fits right in. It start right with a young boy who is awakened by a huge explosion and fire in his town. It seems the Hospital is on fire. His mother apparently dies in that fire. They apparently did skip several years where the boy and his father are moving to the countryside where his father has married his wife's sister (as you do) and is running a factory building warplanes.

The boy's first introduction to her has her saying that she is his "New Mother" and that she is currently pregnant with his soon to be baby brother or sister. So... The kid is going to need therapy of some sort. The house is also occupied by a half-dozen ancient women and a 700 year-old gardener. Enter a talking Blue Heron who leads him to a mysterious castle that opens to a dimension run by his grandfather who went missing that is shared by the living and dead. Chaos ensues. This movie is currently showing either dubbed or subbed.

I watched the dubbed version and the voice cast includes Christian Bale, Dave Bautista, Gemma Chan, Willem Dafoe, Mark Hamill, Robert Patterson and Florence Pugh. A little of my obsession is that I love anime that portray war or action and so far so good I have seen myself watch so many anime and I can see that I find it more interesting watching the ones that portrays a war storyline or an action fight storyline rather than all the lovey dovey romance kind of anime. Mind you I do love romantic anime but not all the time so let's just say it depends on the mood that I have at the moment.

Just to be clear this is totally my opinion and what you think about this anime might be entirely different due to the fact that we have different personalities and different expectations to look out for while judging or making a review. Also I think it as to do with the mood that one is at while watching it for some reasons and as for me in general, This review I present here is my sincere opinion on this anime and nothing more or less.

Fun: It is entertaining, but the weird-shit-o-meter is cranked up pretty high and often the rather beautifully animated film just wanders about. It's a dark piece, much like most of Hayao Miyazaki's other war and death related pieces like Spirited Away.

Preachy: A piece on the tragedy of war is going to be a little preachy, but mostly it's about a young boy living in war-torn Japan who misses his mother and is trying to cope with the fact that his father married and impregnated his Aunt.
