Solo Leveling (2024 TV Series)
If you are in the Neoxian discord server, you would notice two or three people going mental during the airing of the second season of Solo Leveling. One episode each week and always ending in cliffhangers. A certain orange cat would always come to lament to the one abandoned by Christ. That’s right! Then when an episode aired, or was about to, it was celebration night. The whole roller coaster made me decide to wait until the season aired before I began. In a nutshell, I don’t do well with cliffhangers in movies or Anime. Books are different.
Solo Leveling was originally a web novel written by Chugong which would later be published as a Manhwa. The South Korean portal fantasy novel centered on the weakest hunter, Sung Jinwoo, who would level up in a world where becoming stronger was deemed impossible. Adapting the ‘rise from weakness’ trope, the anime had people on the edge of their seats, and like the orange cat, some were downright thrown to the floor.
Sung Jinwoo was known as the weakest hunter - E rank. He was so weak that even the weakest called him weak. Jinwoo’s transformation began after he was slaughtered in a high ranking dungeon by monsters. I have to say, those episodes in that place left me thirsty. It was a familiar scene I had watched in some anime (MC dealt with till his hair turned white or he lost his heart bla bla) and yet, Jinwoo’s felt different for some reason.
Maybe because he was the weakest and I knew he only became a hunter to pay bills, Jinwoo’s slaughter became unbearable to watch. However, just as he died, he came to life by a system which allowed him to level up. The original name of the novel translates to “Only I Level Up”, hence why we see Jinwoo is the only one in the entire populace of hunters to get stronger or as they say encounter quite the peculiar “Re-awakening”.
It is hard not to fall in love with Jinwoo. Yes, I have seen Animes that center on the MC, making them god-level strong and throwing in some bunch of brow-lifting traits. Although Solo Leveling does the same, it does it in a way that doesn’t leave you feeling weird. It’s classy and gripping, captivating in every episode and every battle with our MC. His sudden and steady climb (to becoming S-rank) plus his ability to use intellect would keep you glued.
Truly Binge Worthy!
The art is topnotch. As expected, the quality did not reduce with the episodes, rather they seemed to get better. It was so easy to sink into the storyline as the visual aesthetics appealed to me greatly. The soundtracks too. Especially in season two with Lisa and Felix from Straykids. The sound effects were also mind blowing, the dropped bass and the tense rhythm all cued in time for the right scene. I was catapulted to another dimension with every fight scene.
Currently with two seasons, Solo Leveling has fans raving on the internet. Even now, the satisfaction and anticipation knows no bounds. In the coming seasons, I hope to understand more about Jinwoo and the system. For some reason, I do not want to read the Manhwa, I will patiently wait for the next season. This is giving me “God of Slaughter” vibes.
I give Solo Leveling 4.9/5 stars.

I started watching anime with this one. After watching it, I started looking for more popular anime and began watching them. Though I couldn’t finish Season 2 due to some busyness, I’ll complete it soon. By the way, your review is really well done.
Thank you for the compliment. It is one of those beautifully made anime.
looks cool
kissy kissy
I read the manhwa and that kills any cliffhanger from the animations
Of course, you are a killjoy so no surprise there.
