5 reasons to watch: Smallville [ENG/ESP]
Hello to everyone in the Movies & TV Shows community! Today I bring a new recommendation to marathon at home. This time it is one of the most memorable series in the DC superhero universe and it is none other than 'Smallville', the series that portrays the beginnings of the beloved Kryptonian, Clark Kent, better known as Superman. Created, produced and written by several authors of which Alfred Gough and Miles Millar stand out, 'Smallville' was launched in 2001 and ended in 2011 with a total of 10 seasons as a series intended for a teenage audience.
If you're a fan of Superman and Comics (or superhero stories), you'll know that the series works more as an interpretation of Clark Kent's life. How he grew up in a small town, on the family farm of the Kents (his adopted family from earth), with typical teenage conflicts (friends, romances, confusion, difficult decisions, etc.) and the introduction of several other dilemmas how to learn to use his powers for good and thus finally become the Superman we all know. As such, it takes a bit of a departure from the comics written by Jerry Siegel. Although it may seem a bit risky, I think it's a pretty good concept and it worked, plus, 'Smallville' gave way to the current series about superheroes. So here are 5 reasons why you should watch 'Smallville'.

Esta vez se trata de una de las series más memorables dentro del universo de los superhéroes de DC y no es otra más que 'Smallville', la serie que retrata los inicios del querido Kryptoniano, Clark Kent, mejor conocido cómo Superman. Creada, producida y escrita por varios autores de los que destacan Alfred Gough y Miles Millar, 'Smallville' fue lanzada en el año 2001 y finalizada en el año 2011 con un total de 10 temporadas cómo una serie destinada para un público adolescente.
Si eres un fanático de Superman y los Cómics (o las historias de superhéroes), sabrás que la serie funciona más cómo una interpretación de la vida de Clark Kent. El cómo creció en un pequeño pueblo, en la granja familiar de los Kent (su familia adoptiva de la tierra), con conflictos típicos de un adolescente (los amigos, los romances, la confusión, las decisiones difíciles, etc.) y la introducción de varios otros dilemas cómo aprender a utilizar sus poderes para el bien y así convertirse finalmente en el Superman que todos conocemos. Por ello se despega un poco de los cómics escritos por Jerry Siegel. Aunque puede parecer un poco arriesgado, considero que es un concepto bastante bueno y que funcionó, además, 'Smallville' dió paso a las actuales series sobre superhéroes. Así que aquí te dejo 5 razones por las cuales debes ver 'Smallville'.
Amazing soundtrack: I think it's impossible to disassociate the song "Save Me" by the band Remy Zero, with 'Smallville'. Just listening to it playing during the presentation of all the cast of the series produces adrenaline. And of course it goes very much with the theme of the series, but it wasn't the only song that made many scenes memorable. In fact in those days some movies and series used to release Cd's where they compiled the soundtrack used and of course, 'Smallville' had its own. The geniuses behind this are Louis Febre and Mark Snow who were also in charge of producing the incidental music. To give an idea of their great work, Mark Snow composed the incidental music for the X Files, that background music that gave a mysterious, melancholic and terrifying atmosphere to Mulder and Scully's adventures. Although 'Smallville' has a "happier" context, the musical adaptation was not long in coming and becomes epic.
Una increíble banda sonora: creo que es imposible desligar la canción "Save Me" de la banda Remy Zero, con 'Smallville'. Solo escucharla sonar durante la presentación de todo el elenco de la serie produce adrenalina. Y por supuesto va muy acordé con la temática de la serie, pero no fue la única canción que provocó que muchas escenas fueran memorables. De hecho en aquellos tiempos algunas películas y series solían sacar Cd's dónde compilaban el soundtrack utilizado y por supuesto, 'Smallville' tuvo el suyo. Los genios detrás de esto son Louis Febre y Mark Snow quienes también se encargaron de producir la música incidental. Para dar una idea de su gran trabajo, Mark Snow compuso la música incidental de los X Files, aquella música de fondo que otorgaba una atmósfera misteriosa, melancólica y terrorífica a las aventuras de Mulder y Scully. Aunque 'Smallville' tiene un contexto "más alegre", la adecuación musical no se hizo esperar y se vuelve épica.
A very human Clark Kent: we are always shown that heroes are something like gods (invincible, immortal, perfect and unreachable), but in 'Smallville' it is touching to see that imperfection in the young Clark Kent (played by Tom Welling), who having been raised by humans has a very affable, empathetic, somewhat clumsy and in several cases, weak way of being. And it is precisely these feelings, behaviors and thoughts that make him different from a God. Although Clark is in body an immortal being, everything mentioned above makes him human. It is a duality that he must confront and which we will witness, besides, seeing Superman in his beginnings is the number one reason to watch 'Smallville'.
Un Clark Kent muy humano: siempre se nos muestra que los héroes son algo parecido a los dioses (invencibles, inmortales, perfectos e inalcanzables), pero en 'Smallville' resulta conmovedor ver esa imperfección en el joven Clark Kent (interpretado por Tom Welling), quién al haber sido criado por humanos tiene una forma de ser muy afable, empática, algo torpe y en varios casos, débil. Y es precisamente esos sentimientos, comportamientos y pensamientos los que lo hacen diferenciar de un Dios. Aunque Clark sea en cuerpo un ser inmortal, todo lo mencionado arriba lo vuelve humano. Es una dualidad que debe confrontar y de los cuales seremos testigos, además, ver a Superman en sus inicios es la razón número uno para ver 'Smallville'.
Villains of great level: if watching the series for Superman is a more than understandable reason, doing it for its villains is even better. Thanks to actors Michael Rosenbaum (as Lex Luthor) and John Glover (as Lionel Luthor) we got some of the best performances of these two characters. Father (Lionel) and son (Lex) give the series a sober, dark and serious character that balances the tendency of the series to have an air of innocence (much more childlike). With every performance on stage, the dialogue between these characters (and other characters in the series that sometimes participate in these speeches), are worth listening to very carefully. The Machiavellian of the Luthors contrasts greatly with the goodness of the Kents. Conflicts between light and dark, without bordering on caricaturing the characters.
Villanos de gran nivel: si ver la serie por Superman es una razón más que entendible, hacerlo por sus villanos es aún mejor. Gracias a los actores Michael Rosenbaum (cómo Lex Luthor) y John Glover (cómo Lionel Luthor) obtuvimos unas de las mejores actuaciones de estos dos personajes. Padre (Lionel) e hijo (Lex) otorgan a la serie un carácter sobrio, oscuro y serio que equilibra la tendencia de la serie por tener un aire de inocencia (mucho más infantil). Con cada actuación en escena, el diálogo entre estos personajes (y otros personajes de la serie que participan en ocasiones en esos discursos), son dignos de ser escuchados con mucha atención. Lo maquiavélico de los Luthors contrasta mucho con la bondad de los Kent. Conflictos entre la luz y la oscuridad, sin rayar en la caricaturización de los personajes.
Everything in its own time: if there is something on which opinions are divided is on whether it was a good idea that 'Smallville' has progressed so slowly and with so many seasons: many hated this and others loved it. Being objective, some seasons are better than others, but definitely the fact that the changes happened progressively and not abruptly was a great success. Starting with the fact that being a series where we want to see Clark's first steps, we don't want to skip any of them and get to the consecrated Clark. It makes clear all the sacrifices and situations that Clark had to go through to forge the Man of Steel. Also the introduction of Lex Luthor first as a friend who gradually becomes his nemesis, is at a certain point imperceptible and we only notice the change of his nature until well into the series. I would say that the series is fragmented into several periods: the happy period, the period of metamorphosis and the dark period.
Todo a su tiempo: sí hay algo en lo que se dividen las opiniones es sobre sí fue buena idea que 'Smallville' haya avanzado tan lentamente y con tantas temporadas: muchos odiaron esto y otros lo amaron. Siendo objetiva, algunas temporadas son mejores que otras, pero definitivamente el hecho de que los cambios se dieran progresivamente y no abruptamente, fue un gran acierto. Comenzando por el hecho de que siendo una serie dónde deseamos ver los primeros pasos de Clark, no queremos saltarnos ninguno de ellos y llegar al Clark consagrado. Se deja en claro todos los sacrificios y situaciones que Clark tuvo que atravesar para forjar al Hombre de Acero. Además la introducción de Lex Luthor primeramente cómo un amigo que pasa a ser poco a poco a su némesis, es en cierto punto imperceptible y solo advertimos el cambio de su naturaleza hasta bien avanzada la serie. Diría que la serie se fragmenta en varios períodos: el período feliz, el período de la metamorfosis y el período oscuro.
Pure nostalgia: the series was responsible not only for telling a story about a boy from another galaxy but also (and without perceiving it), it served as an audiovisual record of a decade between 2000 and 2010. No podemos dejar de sentir nostalgia cuando vemos la tecnología (los celulares de teclas, las computadoras con enormes monitores, las cámaras compactas, etc.), la vestimenta, la música e incluso el aspecto filmico de aquel tiempo. Es cómo hacer un viaje al pasado. Y por eso, también resulta agradable y entretenido ver 'Smallville'. La propia serie es un recuerdo puro de la década.

Dios mío, que recuerdos esta serie, siempre veía que la pasaban por la televisión y me llamaba la atención, nunca la vía como tal, solo pequeñas partes. Una de las cosas que recuerdo es que la protagonista me parecía muy bonita porque sus rasgos faciales se parecían a los de un gato... plop

Seguramente es un gran film. Cuando vi la película El Guasón, villano de Batman me causó gran conmoción. Amé esta película porque detallan muy bien las causas que dieron origen al personaje. Supongo que acá veremos lo mismo. Me encantaría verla. Crecí viendo Superman jajaja. 🤗

Recuerdo que la vi completa y amaba esa presentación, sin duda la música era fantástica, recuerdo también que llegaron a usar The Reason de Hoobastank y me enamoró. Creo que lo de los villanos fue importante, que pudieramos ver ese cambio de amigos a némesis, permitió darle profundidad al personaje de Lex Luthor, me encantó.
Al final esperaba ver a Clark con su traje, cosa que no pasó (aunque hicieron el entendido de que lo usaba), pero la verdad para mi esas 10 temporadas no fueron suficientes.

Y sí, siempre me espere a verlo con su típico traje pero no lo hicieron, cómo dices, solo dieron la ilusión de que lo usaba. Y a lo último. Supuestamente se debía a que el actor no quería utilizar un disfraz, pero son rumores.

I enjoyed this series for a number of years. There's two other reasons to watch it as well though, well, at least for me personally. I enjoyed seeing one of the "Duke Boys" get an acting job as Clark's father and I also was infatuated with Lana who is played by Kristin Kreuk. :)

Kristin Kreuk had the most captivating blue eyes. I wonder if those were contacts or if her eyes are really that color?
Smallville really got me hooked when I was a teenager, in fact watching it so young, I noticed much later that it was about Superman, hahaha. But yes, it is a story that has everything and that represents a much more natural version of the life of a superhero, it has many surprises and things that impact as for example change of scenery every time that made me lose the thread a little if I stopped watching some part.
