Movie Review: The Legend of Sleepy Hollow (Walt Disney Gold) [ENG/ESP]
Hello to everyone in the Movies & TV Shows community! Today I bring you a new movie review and this time we will be talking about an animated feature film produced by Walt Disney in the year 1949, which brings together two stories based on two novels. The first one is The Wind in the Willows by Kenneth Grahame, entitled The Lord Toad and the second one is The story of Ichabod Crane and the Headless Horseman by Washington Irving, entitled The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. We will be talking specifically about the latter. So join me.
In those years, Walt Disney began to release short films of different stories and novels, which brought together at least two stories in a single "package" to form a feature film. This was because they were going through difficult times where producing big movies was impossible due to the hard times of war. However, thanks to this we have some of Disney's most emblematic short films, before it began to release major productions such as Cinderella in 1950. A year after the release of Mr. Toad and The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. And now we all know what Walt Disney became thanks to these releases.

Hoy les traigo una nueva reseña de película y está vez estaremos hablando de un largometraje animado producido por Walt Disney en el año 1949, el cual reúne dos cuentos basados en dos novelas. La primera es The Wind in the Willows de Kenneth Grahame, titulado cómo El Señor Sapo y la segunda es The story of Ichabod Crane and the Headless Horseman de Washington Irving, titulado cómo La leyenda de Sleepy Hollow. Estaremos hablando específicamente de esta última. Así que acompañame.
Para aquellos años, Walt Disney comenzó a sacar cortometrajes de diferentes cuentos y novelas, los cuales reunían al menos dos historias en un solo "paquete" para formar un largometraje. Esto debido a que atravesaban tiempos difíciles dónde producir grandes películas, resultaba imposible por los duros tiempos de guerra. Sin embargo, gracias a ello tenemos algunos de los cortometrajes más emblemáticos de Disney, antes de que comenzará a lanzar grandes producciones cómo La Cenicienta en el año 1950. Un año después del estreno de El Señor Sapo y La Leyenda de Sleepy Hollow. Y que ahora todos sabemos en qué se convirtió Walt Disney gracias a estos lanzamientos.
The stories are narrated by a voiceover that serves to introduce and link the two short films. So after watching Mr. Toad, we are introduced to the book that tells the story of Ichabod Crane. In the year 1784 in the settlements of Tarry Town, there was a valley called Sleepy Hollow, known for its ghost stories. There arrived Ichabod Crane, a pedagogue of particular appearance; tall as a rod, devoid of flesh, with a small head and long neck, big and pointed nose. Ichabod was quite a character, but despite his appearance (and a certain eccentric personality), he managed to gain the trust and affection of the locals. As well as the position of teacher.
One day he meets Katrina Van Tassel, the only daughter of a wealthy man, and falls in love with her thanks to her charms. But Ichabod is not the only one who wants Katrina, as several men of the town also do it and among them stands out "Bones", a formidable, charismatic, cheerful guy who likes to play good jokes. A strong rivalry for Katrina's hand will arise between them. And although it seems that Bones has the upper hand (because of his youth and strength), Ichabod does not make it easy for him, as on more than one occasion he takes the lead without making much effort. Luck is on their side, until the day of the Day of the Dead party that Katrina will celebrate at her house.
La historias son narradas por una voz en off que sirve para introducir y enlazar los dos cortometrajes. Por lo que luego de ver a El Señor Sapo, se nos presentará el libro que cuenta la historia de Ichabod Crane. En el año 1784 en los asentamientos de Tarry Town, se encontraba un valle llamado Sleepy Hollow, conocido por sus historias de fantasmas. Allí llegó Ichabod Crane, un pedagogo de apariencia particular; alto cómo una vara, desprovisto de carnes, de cabeza pequeña y de cuello largo, nariz grande y puntiaguda. Ichabod era todo un personaje, pero a pesar de su aspecto (y cierta personalidad excéntrica), supo ganarse la confianza y el cariño de los lugareños. Así como el puesto de maestro.
Un buen día conoce a Katrina Van Tassel, hija única de un gran adinerado y se enamora de ella gracias a sus encantos. Pero Ichabod no es el único que pretende a Katrina, pues también varios hombres del pueblo lo hacen y de ellos destaca "Huesos" (llamado, Brom Bones), un tipo formidable, carismático, alegre y que gusta de gastar buenas bromas. Entre ellos surgirá una fuerte rivalidad por la mano de Katrina. Y aunque parece que Huesos lleva las de ganar (por su juventud y fortaleza), Ichabod no se la deja fácil pues en más de una ocasión le lleva la ventaja sin hacer mucho esfuerzo. La suerte está de su lado, hasta que llega el día de la Fiesta del Día de Muertos que Katrina celebrará en su casa.
All the locals are invited and of course, Ichabod and Bones will be there. The evening goes well for Ichabod, who dances the night away with the beautiful Katrina and starts to gain the respect of her father, but his opponent doesn't give up. Bones, who is very astute and observant, realizes that old Ichabod is a superstitious man when he accidentally spills salt on the table and throws some more salt behind him (to ward off bad luck). This is Bones' chance to terrify Ichabod with the story of the Headless Horseman and finally get rid of him.
Thanks to the animation work, the soundtrack and the narrator's accompaniment, The Legend of Sleepy Hollow is delightful. Rarely is horror told with such grace and eloquence. Hilarious are Ichabod's mannerisms, the fights he has with Bone and not least, the chase that ensues as the Headless Horseman goes for Ichabod's life. One of the most iconic scenes. So it is a very good short film, both for children and adults. All ages will enjoy it. It is one of my favorites. Todos los lugareños están invitados y por supuesto, Ichabod y Huesos estarán allí. La velada transcurre exitosamente para Ichabod, quién baila durante toda la noche con la bella Katrina y además comienza a ganarse el respeto del padre de ella, pero su contrincante no se rinde. Huesos, quién es muy astuto y observador, se percata de que el viejo Ichabod es un hombre supersticioso cuando este al derramar sal por accidente sobre la mesa, arroja tras de sí un poco más de sal (para espantar la mala suerte). Es la oportunidad de Huesos para aterrorizar a Ichabod con la historia del Jinete sin Cabeza y deshacerse por fin de él.
Gracias al trabajo de animación, la banda sonora y el acompañamiento del narrador, La Leyenda de Sleepy Hollow resulta encantador. Pocas veces el terror se cuenta con tanta gracia y elocuencia. Resultan graciosas las formas de Ichabod, las peleas que tiene con Hueso y no menos importante, la persecusión que se lleva a cabo cuando el Jinete sin Cabeza va por la vida de Ichabod. Una de las escenas más emblemáticas. Por lo que es un cortometraje muy bueno, tanto cómo para niños cómo para adultos. Todas las edades la disfrutarán. Es de mis favoritas. Recuerdo haberla visto de niño. En ese entonces nos deslumbraba la calidad de los dibujos animados de Disney
Saludos. Así es, todas las animaciones eran muy bellas. Creo que tenía que ver con el uso de los rotoscopio, que volvían la animación muy fluida y detallada. Gracias por pasar por aquí.
