Finally, I watched the Brazilian film with the most Oscar nominations of all time. In fact, it only takes a few minutes of the film to understand why I'm Still Here even received a nomination for Best Picture, in addition to the obvious nomination for Best Foreign Language Film.

I'm Still Here is a masterpiece by director Walter Salles, who previously directed Central Station and The Motorcycle Diaries, films that also received Oscar nominations, the first of which starred Fernanda Montenegro, mother of Fernanda Torres, currently nominated for Best Actress, and the second with two nominations, winning the award for Best Original Song.

The story of I'm Still Here begins in Rio de Janeiro in the 1970s, showing the family life of former congressman Rubens Paiva and Eunice Paiva with their five children, who lived in a large house near the beach.

The first scenes are captivating due to the joy and lightheartedness of a loving and fun family enjoying the privilege of living in a Brazilian postcard.

However, all the joy turns to anguish when army agents take Rubens Paiva for a statement and the engineer disappears without the police giving any information about his whereabouts or what could have happened to him.

Fernanda Torres, who plays Eunice, gives a brilliant performance, conveying the feeling of a mother who needs to move forward to raise her five children while struggling to find out what happened to her husband.

Another strong point of the film is the detailed recreation of the period in which it takes place, both indoors and outdoors, with rich detail. In addition to the performance that earned her an Oscar nomination for best actress, the other actors also give impeccable performances, including the children.

In her old age, Eunice Paiva is played by Fernanda Montenegro and for those who don't know her, it seems like she is Fernanda Torres herself, when in fact, it is her mother who was also nominated for an Oscar for best actress for her performance in the film Central Station.

Historically, the film brings up an important discussion for the generation that did not live through the military dictatorship, which committed countless crimes, including kidnappings, torture and murders of opponents classified as communists, even democratic activists who dared to question the government.

Even with such a difficult subject to portray, due to the violence of the period the country went through, the film manages to transform a traumatic story into an example of resistance and activism led by the incredible woman that was Eunice Paiva.

Finalmente, assisti ao filme brasileiro com mais indicações ao Oscar de todos os tempos. Realmente, basta alguns minutos de filme para entender por que Ainda Estou Aqui recebeu até mesmo uma indicação como Melhor Filme, além da óbvia indicação de Melhor Filme Estrangeiro.

Ainda Estou Aqui é uma obra-prima do diretor Walter Salles, que já dirigiu Central do Brasil e Diários de Motocicleta, filmes que também receberam indicações ao Oscar, o primeiro deles com Fernanda Montenegro, mãe de Fernanda Torres, atualmente indicada ao prêmio de melhor atriz, e o segundo com duas indicações, sendo vencedor do prêmio de melhor canção original.

A história de Ainda Estou Aqui começa no Rio de Janeiro, na década de 70, mostrando a vida em família do ex-deputado Rubens Paiva e Eunice Paiva com seus cinco filhos, que viviam em um casarão próximo à praia.

Fernanda Torres, que interpreta Eunice, tem uma atuação brilhante trazendo o sentimento de uma mãe que precisa seguir adiante para criar seus cinco filhos ao mesmo tempo que luta para descobrir o que aconteceu com seu marido.

Outro ponto forte do filme é recriação detalhada da época em que se passa tanto nos ambientes internos quanto nas externas com riqueza de detalhes. Além da atuação que rendeu a indicação ao Oscar de melhor atriz, os demais atores também tem atuação irrepreensível, incluindo as crianças.

Na velhice, Eunice Paiva é interpretada por Fernanda Montenegro e para quem não a conhece parece que é a própria Fernanda Torres mais velha mas, na verdade, é sua mãe que também foi indicado ao Oscar de melhor atriz pela atuação no filme Central do Brasil.

Historicamente, o filme traz uma discussão importante para a geração que não viveu durante a ditadura militar, que cometeu inúmeros crimes, incluindo sequestros, tortura e assassinatos de opositores classificados como comunistas, até mesmo militantes democratas que ousavam questionar o governo.

Mesmo com um tema tão difícil de retratar, devido à violência do período que o país passou, o filme consegue transformar uma história traumática em um exemplo de resistência e ativismo protagonizado pela mulher incrível que foi Eunice Paiva.
