Introduction

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince shocked the fans when Dumbledore was killed. I thought there would be an all-out war after Dumbledore's death. However, J.K. Rowling still has a trick up her sleeve with the "Story of the Three Brothers" which were the original owners of the Deathly Hallows, the Elder Wand, the Ressurection Stone, and the Cloak of Invisibility.

The Film's Narrative

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 is about the dramatic and suspenseful struggle of Harry Potter and his friends to find the Horcruxes of Voldemort so that they can destroy them and therefore destroy Voldemort once and for all.

Thoughts

Just like the six previous films, this film, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows never failed to surprise me with its plot when it surprised me with The Seven Potters (see image below) which

I am also surprised that Hedwgig dies defending Harry Potter. But before the owl's fate. Harry lets Hedwig fly away because of the danger that Harry is about to face. But then during the "Battle of Seven Potters," Hedwig comes out of nowhere are saves Harry from pursuing Death Eater.

And just like in the previous six movies, there are also some plot holes in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 when Harry Potter and his friends, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger are at the cafe when two Death Eaters try to kill. In that scene two Death Eaters walked passed by them before one of them let his wand out which an assassin will not do (walk past by) before killing his target.

Another one that surprises me on this one is about Dobby. I already forgot about Dobby but when he shows up with Mundungus (see image below). I was glad to see Dobby again in this film but it was cut short when he died of the knife thrown by Bellatrix Lestrange.

Probably one of the riskiest acts that the trio did was when they entered the Ministry of Magic while using a Pollyjuice Potion. Inside the ministry, I was very nervous but some of the scenes made me calm a little. I thought they were going to be caught because they entered the nest of the enemy itself.

I have to admit that I cannot look at the scene when Harry and Hermione dance together even if I knew that Harry is doing it just to relieve some of the stress of Hermione.

All throughout the film the trio is finding the Horcruxes but simultaneously there is also a developing story in the film itself, the introduction of the Deathly Hallows which Harry knew for the first time.

And finally, in this film, Harry got to see the grave of his parents (see images below), in Godric's Hollow. The scene is a tear-jerker because it is the closest that Harry can get to his parents because he was just an infant when they died (killed by Voldemort).

It is also in Godric's Hollow that I confirmed for myself how brilliant of an enemy Voldemort is, he knew that Harry would go to Godric's Hollow so he sent Nagini there inside the body of Bathilda which also surprised me because I thought Bathilda was going to help them find what they are looking for.

Deathly Hallow Part 1 also made it clear that some of the Horcruxes of Voldemort will not be just destroyed by force it has to be destroyed by special means like the Sword of Gryffindor that is impregnated with Basilisk blood.

This film "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1" is brilliantly made as it was able to push through to its main plot and simultaneously build up the story of the Deathly Hallows. The animation of the meeting of the three brothers and Death is also brilliant and unique.

The scene where Bellatrix Lestrange noticed the Sword of Gryffindor makes me think about how really the sword came into the possession of Bellatrix. All I know based on the conversation between Bellatrix and the former employee of Gringots the sword is in the vault of Bellatrix. Bellatrix could not believe that the sword was stolen as the goblin reiterated that Gringots was the safest place.

The appearance of a Doe that leads Harry to the sword in a frozen lake also makes me think why the sword was there, who put it in there, and who sent the Doe and it surprises me that the Slytherin Locket can physically cause harm as well as mentally as shown multiple time when Harry and Ron wear the locket in turns.

And when all is lost Dobby has one more trick on his sleeve, he lets go of a chandelier directly above her and Hermione causing Bellatrix to let go of Hermione. The idea of Dobby letting go of the chandelier is brilliant as I never thought that it would happen since the trio is nowhere to go (Hermione is held at knifepoint by Bellatrix).

Conclusion

The sixth film and this film are by far the two most thrilling and suspenseful of all (in my opinion) but the first one is still my favorite. I thought the film would only follow the developing war and how Harry and company would respond and how his allies respond and that was it. But this film successfully integrated another story simultaneously with the main plot (developing war and Harry finding the Horcruxes).

As it turns out the Deathly Hallows contains three things, the Elder Wand, a resurrection stone, and an invisibility cloak. At the end of the film Voldemort is shown opening the tomb of Albus Dumbledore and getting the Elder Wand. This film set all that is necessary for the finale. This is a must-watch, but for those who doesn't watched the previous film yet you've got to them before seeing this film.
