Hello and welcome to the 18TH edition of Cine TV Community Spotlight. The Cine TV Spotlight Series has begun in a bid to boost engagement and interaction in the community and showcase the work of deserving authors.

And it’s all simple. At the end of every week, we spotlight works by authors based on the content, originality, style, and word count. It is not a contest but just our way of creating exposure for the works we enjoyed throughout the week and boosting exceptionally written content by our authors. Simply put, give it your best and have fun while at it, and then we showcase your work here.

So, in no particular order, here are the authors spotlighted for this week:

Title: I Watched Emilia Perez So You Wouldn't Have To

emilia.jpg

It's a movie about Mexico with no Mexican actors (except for one actress, who appears very little), and yes, Selena Gomez's Spanish is horrible, you can tell she doesn't even know what she's saying, she's just there spitting out her dialogues and doesn't give it nuances, Karla Sofia Gascón does it moderately well, but she never gets the accent of where her character is supposed to be (she is a Spanish actress and you can tell), Zoe Saldaña does pretty well with Spanish, but in the whole movie she does like a thousand accents except one from Mexico, they had to change the origin of the characters so they would adapt to the actors that would play them instead of the actors adapting to the characters as it should be.

But just because some elements are there to create the discomfort doesn't mean that they execute efficiently. So in turn, the situations, they become impotent. And I can't fault the visuals for not capturing a creepy vibe. What we are shown is creative and normally somewhat freaky. There are demonic or devilish things that appear in the periphery, sometimes through a reflection, other times just in that quick little glance. There are moments, too, when we're shown beings for several seconds, so we can get the full view of their horrific or scary design.

Title: What Would Happen If A Serial Killer Tried To Go To Therapy?

patient.jpg

We have to remember that psychopaths, within the film industry, have been exploited quite often, the violent behaviour and ways of these individuals. But personally, I had not come across a script that gave free rein in 10 episodes to show how the mind of a psychopath integrated into society can go to the very abyss... He kidnaps, murders, kills, tortures but wishes ‘with all his heart to stop...’ Even knowing this, the therapist decides to continue with this patient? Evidently not of his own free will...

Title: Monster Inlaw || Fight or Flight

monster.jpg

I'm beginning to wonder why I never liked this genre before. The number of amazing films I came across during this past holiday that were of this genre, makes me wonder why. Is it that recent American romcoms of these days no longer understand the real idea behind romantic comedies that they just end up with cringe productions or am I just not finding the good and recent ones for myself?

Title: LAKATABU

lakatabu.jpg

After watching this film, having recently read a myriad of negative comments and reviews about it, in as much as I respect other people’s opinions about issues, I can’t help but ask one question: “Which 'Lakatabu' did these persons watch? A YouTube version or one from a link gotten from heaven-knows where?” A similar thing happened with AY’s “Merry Men 3: The Nemesis!” People said all sorts against that movie. Turns out, I liked…no, scrap that…I LOVED IT!

Title: Arietty

Arietty.jpeg

Arrietty is purely fictional with imaginative characters and details that just makes you want to stay. In only one hour and thirty-four minutes, Arrietty manages to steal my heart with its vibrant perspective on relationships and fear. In this movie, we see things mostly from Arrietty’s point of view and I won’t lie, every time they left their little cocoon, my heart went crazy staccato in my chest especially with Niya (the cat) lurking.

Title: The VIP Experience

vip.jpg

Personally speaking, I'm a very calm guy, but if there's one thing that really gets on my nerves, it's people who don't know how to respect these boundaries in a movie theater. I've gotten into a few arguments (all verbal, no physical aggression) because of this type of behavior. However, realizing that this isn't going to change, what I decided to do was raise the level of this entertainment, even if it means spending more. Yes, I'm a VIP There are certain pleasures that only money can buy, and going to the movies with the goal of having a real experience embraces that.

Title: The Beautiful Game

beautiful.jpg

The character is abrasive, pompous, entitled, and way too smug with his abilities. And right from the get go, we can tell that his arc is going to be obvious and predictable. But within this story, Vinny's character growth is also so drawn out that it makes him way more of an antagonist than he needs to be. The progression can be inspiring, but it's also hard to swallow because of how he treats his teammates and how long it takes to sort of learn his lesson. And I say sort of because there is a situation with another teammate that he is directly responsible for, but he never really makes amends. And it was both sad and disappointing and then left a bitter taste in my mouth.

And there you have it! Congratulations to all those spotlighted this week. We look forward to more exceptional content. And to everyone posting in the community, we look forward to seeing more of you around.
