Hackers 1995
Ah, yes. Anyone that's my age and into computers more than just using them to order pizza online and troll on twitter will probably have a soft spot for this film. I remember when this came out I absolutely loved it.
I remember one of the leads getting excited over a P133 laptop, and as I was watching it, me thinking, wow, that's a serious bit of kit right there. Boy how things have changed, and capacitors have turned infinitely smaller.
But let's not get distracted from an absolute marvel this film was. The soundtrack was very current at the time. Mostly aimed at my age group and slightly above I think. There's not a song on there that I don't love, featuring all the old star greats including The Prodigy.
Might I suggest a nice perusal as you read this:

Okay, so the hacking and what people are doing is not true to life. The flashy lights, the bright coloured sounds, the lovely UI's, it's just not a thing, back then, or even now. Hacking is a dirty job, and it's not for the faint of heart.
If you see here:
We're presented with nice graphics, lovely sounds, which might I add were way ahead of their time. I doubt any home computer back then could produce graphics like this. Not that I can remember anyway. It's only been recently that home computers have been able to produce movie-like outputs. Yeah, hacking is more like the video below, and way way dirtier back in 1995.
But that aside the film was really good. Like serious quality storyline for a kid that nerds out on his computers all day long. The people I went to school with told me that I couldn't shut up about those damn computers.
I envy this school and life these kids had in 1995 presented in the film, because to enjoy a bit of Internet, or be looking into a career in computing you were more than likely to find yourself with your head down the toilet rather than being admired and revered by your peers. And 5 quality hackers going to the same school? Doubtful.
But it's a highly recommended for me. I mean it's not reality of course but the storyline and nerdy-1995 feel and techno playlist should have you grabbing that remote for a check out. There's an all star cast in there. They might not have been famous then but they certainly are now.
I miss this era of film making. Where everything was about coming together to defeat the common goal. To fight the enemy that stands in the way -- the big evil corporation with the dodgy cyber security guy. Now it's all about self flagellation and repentance for our past sins. I miss the common good.
But one can dream.
I'm not one to spoil a film, so I'll leave you wondering, but it's one of my favourites. I'd say if you like a bit of tech geekery with the common good thrown together in a 90's style film then this is your movie. Go watch it!!
