Ape, Human, together, strong!

I always like whenever a new film in this franchise begins, because it's always a treat to watch. Out of everything that's out there at the moment this is one of those that are of better calibre. I've thoroughly enjoyed this series so far, and the ending was left in such a way where there's room for many more.

It's interesting the way the world is turning right now; every good franchise suddenly turns into a series with several sequels. All the epic blockbusters have scores of films credited to them. Just look at the Marvel universe for example.

But this isn't necessarily a bad thing. I thoroughly enjoyed the new Spiderman's, and wow, damn. Infinity War was a cut above the rest in my opinion. And this, this is no different. Each planet of the apes film that comes out is usually as good as (or sometimes better) than the last.

We start many decades in the future in this film. A time when Caesar (the very first king of the Apes) is long gone, and his memory is now but a legend. The planet that was once inhabited by humanity is now decaying and all of our magnificent structures are being overgrown by trees and moss. What was once amazing cities as far as the eye can see are now being eaten up by the earth.

We start with a young Ape. Noa. Young and full of excitement and intrigue him and his friends all come back from an adventure excitable after what they had seen. Humans.

Noa came from a tribe that bred Eagles. A strange and simplistic thing to do but they seemed happy in what they did, although the film never really delved into why they breed and bond with Eagles.

That aside, they had been taught not to go far from their home because humans were unpredictable, and in the world that humans inhabit there are far greater dangers out there. That's when they dispatch one of their soldiers to investigate further and to see what was out there lurking around. The villagers are kept safe.

That night as Noa is awake and alone he discovers the human he is around has been following him, but is scared of him. There are quite intense fights and he runs out into the woods to catch whoever this crazy human is and why they are trying to follow him.

After a while Noa finds himself alone, and the soldier that was dispatched to figure out what had been going strange within the woods had been killed, and this is where we begin to find out that all is not what it seems.

It's a really good film. It doesn't have a great overall rating on google, however I really liked it. It blends the cautious naivety of young teenagers with age old wisdom of older apes, and we see the push and pull between experience and ego. It's very good. I'd recommend it. If not just for the epic dystopian Earth we are presented with.

it's been a long time since I've seen how this story has continued, I have some catching up to do with the franchise so to speak and this reminds me because yes, each film about these apes is powerful and can surpass the previous one 😀
