Live action usually disappoints, it is very difficult to find one that does not profane the original work. In general, when a manga is good, anime is usually produced and its success leads to this kind of adaptations with real characters. Parasyte: The Grey reached this threshold and if you haven't seen the anime or read the story it's a good place to start.

With Parasyte: The Grey we have continuity to the story of the man-eating parasites, albeit in a different region. This is an important point to understand because of what happens at the end of the 6 chapters, I explain it to you so that you understand the ending and do not ask yourself questions that have their answer in the anime series, which takes place in the region of Tokyo and perhaps a little before the events occurred in this adapted series.

It all begins with the arrival of invading parasites, just as it happened in Tokyo, but this time in the region of Namil, a relatively small place, where many people are affected by these parasites that devour the human brain and stay there, using their host in a similar way to a person driving a car. Our protagonist, a girl who works in a super market, but unfortunately has a lonely life and a painful past. In addition to that she is infected by one of these parasites that due to circumstances of the moment could not lodge in her brain, so it only took a part of her consciousness.

This is the initial event, everything that comes after happens really fast, and I liked it a lot because they go straight to the point, there is no need to go so deep because everything required to understand it even without having seen the anime is explained in each chapter, that said, I emphasize that it is an enjoyable and understandable work from beginning to end.

Like it or not, you are not alone

This sentence is undoubtedly one of the most important of the whole story, and it has its context. Our protagonist, Jeong Su-in, was abused as a child, her mother abandoned her and formed another family, her father unloaded his anger on her, to the point that she had to denounce him in order to survive, from then on she had to learn the hardness of life without a family, she did not have a happy childhood, she had to mature before her time, and that affects and brings pain in the deepest part of her heart.

The author of this adaptation quickly invades our minds with this drama and at the same time criticizes society, especially people who destroy their families without caring about the damage they do to their children. Jeong Su-in's life is an example of this, and how she feels is a reflection of reality.

After being infected her life takes a drastic turn again, and now more dramatic as she is in mortal danger and gets involved in violent situations and police chases, what could be worse? She has no family and the only one who took care of her is killed by one of the parasites, and she has no choice but to team up with an expandillero in order to survive.

All this "bad luck" has its purpose, and that is what the production wants us to understand because not everything is bad in life. Jeong Su-in suffers irreparably but in the development of the story a turn of events happen that will lead her to understand that she can trust other people, and that at the end of the day, she is not alone as she thinks and pities herself.

It's definitely a powerful message, and that's what I liked the most not only about the live action but also about the original story. Here we can say that they were very faithful because they not only focused on the effects and sub-themes -which are also important- but they developed an existential theme quite similar to what was already known and for which the series became known worldwide, maybe that's why the success and acceptance received.

To conclude, Parasyte: The Grey is worth it, and I reiterate, if you did not see the anime it's okay, you can start from here, you can understand and enjoy it, and the only doubt you will have is who is the character that appears at the end, but I say this without considering it a spoiler, since nothing else happens from there, in fact its inclusion only generates expectations for a second season, which they have not even said if they plan to make it, so knowing it will only bring you satisfaction of resolving the uncertainty. The character is Shinichi, the protagonist of the original series.

Los Live action suelen decepcionar, es muy difícil encontrar uno que no profane la obra original. Por lo general cuando un manga es bueno generalmente se produce el anime y su éxito conlleva a este tipo de adaptaciones con personajes reales. Parasyte: The Grey alcanzo este umbral y sino has visto el anime ni leído la historia es un buen punto donde comenzar.

Con Parasyte: The Grey tenemos continuidad a la historia de los parasitos come hombres, aunque en una región diferente. Este es un punto importante de entender por lo que sucede al final de los 6 capitulos, te lo explico para que comprendas el final y no te hagas preguntas que tienen su respuesta en la serie anime, la cual se desarrolla en la región de Tokio y quizas un poco antes de los acontecimientos ocurridos en esta serie adaptada.

Todo comienza con la llegada parasitos invasores, tal cual ocurrio en Tokio, pero esta vez en la región de Namil, un lugar relativamente pequeño, alli muchas personas son afectadas por estos parasitos que devoran el cerebro humano y se alojan alli, usando su huésped de forma similar a una persona cuando maneja un automóvil. Nuestra protagonista, una chica que trabaja en un super mercado, pero que desafortunadamente tiene una vida solitaria y un pasado bastante doloroso. Sumado a eso es infectada por uno de estos parasitos que por circunstancias del momento no pudo alojarse en su cerebro, asi que solo tomo una parte de su conciencia.

Este es el acontecimiento inicial, todo lo que viene después ocurre realmente rápido, y eso me gusto bastante porque van directo al grano, no hay necesidad de profundizar tanto porque todo lo requerido para entenderla aun sin haber visto el anime se va explicando en cada capitulo, dicho esto, enfatizo que es una obra disfrutable y entendible de principio a fin.

Te guste o no, no estas sola

Esta frase sin duda es una de las mas importantes de toda la historia, y tiene su contexto. Nuestra protagonista llamada Jeong Su-in recibió un maltrato cuando niña que marco su vida, su madre la abandono y formo otra familia, su padre descargaba su ira en ella, hasta el punto que tuvo que denunciarlo para poder sobrevivir, a partir de ese entonces tuvo que aprender lo duro de la vida sin familia, no tuvo infancia feliz, le toco madurar antes de tiempo, y eso afecta y trae dolor en lo mas profundo del corazón.

El autor de esta adaptación rápidamente nos invade la mente con este drama y a su vez hace una critica a la sociedad, sobre todo a las personas que destruyen sus familias sin importar el daño que hacen a sus hijos. La vida de Jeong Su-in es un ejemplo de ello, y como se siente ella un reflejo de la realidad.

Luego de ser infectada su vida vuelve a dar un giro drástico, y ahora mas dramático pues corre peligro mortal y se ve envuelta en situaciones violentas y persecuciones policiales, ¿Qué podría salir peor? No tiene familia y el único que la cuido es asesinado por uno de los parasitos, y no le queda de otra que hacer equipo con un expandillero para poder sobrevivir.

Toda esta “mala suerte” tiene su propósito, y eso es lo que la producción quiere que entendamos porque no todo es malo en la vida. Jeong Su-in sufre irremediablemente pero en el desarrollo de la historia ocurren un giro de eventos que la llevaran a entender que puede confiar en otras personas, y que al final de cuentas, no esta sola como ella piensa y se autocompadece.

Definitivamente es un mensaje poderoso, y eso es lo que mas me ha gustado no solo del Live action sino de la historia original. Aca se puede decir que fueron muy fieles pues no solo se enfocaron en los efectos y subtemas –que tambien son importantes- sino que desarrollaron un tema existencial bastante parecido a lo que ya se conocía y por lo que la serie se hizo mundialmente conocida, quizas por eso el éxito y la aceptación recibidad.

Para concluir, Parasyte: The Grey vale la pena, y reitero, si no viste el anime no pasa nada, puedes comenzar desde aca, podras entenderla y disfrutarla, y la única duda que tendras es quien es el personaje que sale al final, pero te lo digo sin considerarlo un spoiler, ya que no sucede nada mas de alli, de hecho su inclusión solo genera expectativas para una segunda temporada, la cual ni siquiera han dicho si la piensan hacer, asi que saberlo solo te traerá satisfacción de resolver la incertidumbre. El personaje es Shinichi, el protagonista de la serie original.
