The digital age has certainly greatly improved the quality and usability of film film. In a few seconds you have access to online platforms that broadcast anything in FullHD or 4K quality, sharp and fluid images, a real pleasure for our eyes. Technology has now downgraded video stores, chains like Blockbuster, a reference in the sector in the 90s and in the first half of the following decade, have definitively closed, having lost all reason to exist.

Who now rents a DVD or Bluray at the video store?

In the 90s, however, everything was very different. My reference video store was called Ohibò and on average I rented at least one VHS (videocassette for those who don't know the acronym) a week. The quality of the video was certainly not comparable to a DVD or Bluray but the pleasure of leaving the house on a Saturday afternoon to rent a film is something I still remember with great nostalgia.

It was often necessary to wait a few days to find the VHS of a recent film, sometimes I went back to the video store several times a day just to be able to find it. An exciting wait that no one feels anymore because no one rents VHS tapes anymore. Today, after a few weeks, the title is already available online while previously it was necessary to wait 6-12 months before having a film on VHS! What times, damn nostalgic.

L'era del digitale ha certamente migliorato enormemente la qualità e la fruibilità delle pellicole dei film. In pochi secondi hai acceso alle piattaforme online che trasmettono qualsiasi cosa ormai in qualità FullHD o 4K ormai, immagini nitide e fluide, un vero piacere per i nostri occhi. Chi, oramai, noleggia un dvd o bluray presso la videoteca?

La qualità del video non era certo paragonabile ad un dvd o bluray ma il piacere di uscire di casa il sabato pomeriggio per noleggiare un film è qualcosa che ancora ricordo con grande nostalgia.

Spesso era necessario attendere qualche giorno per trovare la VHS di un film recente, a volte ripassavo dalla videoteca anche più volte al giorno pur di riuscire a trovarlo. Un'attesa eccitante che oramai nessuni prova più perché nessuno noleggia più VHS. Oggi dopo poche settimane il titolo è già disponibile online mentre prima era necessario attendere 6-12 mesi prima di avere un film in VHS! Che tempi, maledettamente nostalgici.
