It is the most beautiful time of the year, where all fires cease and only peace reigns and the gifts that we buy with our money, in the country where I live there is no snow except in the mountains so to remind us that it is Christmas we have the traditions and the gift of the cheapest thing we can get at the corner market, or do movie marathons.

Christmas movies are above all nostalgic for me, I remember that always at this time of the year there was a marathon of classic movies and series that talked about how beautiful Christmas was as well as telling some classic Christmas stories, even many of those movies have become my favourites and are on this list.

• El Grinch

Based on some of Dr Seuss' most popular fairy tales I remember the first few times I saw this movie at the tender age of 7 I was scared to death of the main character played by Jim Carrey but over time it has become one of my most fun movies to watch while tucked up in bed, it's hilarious from start to finish even today.

The Grinch's plan is to ruin Christmas by kidnapping all the presents from the children of a village, with the help of his trusty doggy friend, but along the way he meets a little girl who teaches him about what Christmas can be and that he doesn't have to be alone in it.

One of the most recent Christmas stories that in my 20s I've loved, both for the message it gives and how great the movie is, both in the technical side and the techniques they use to tell the story of Santa and with the story itself that has become my favorite movie to teach my future children and learn about what Christmas is all about.

It's like a prequel to Christmas that follows a runner who has a mission along with a teacher and a carpenter to change the lives of the inhabitants of a small town, it's a story that is simple but for me has a huge message, plus it's a Spanish film which is a bonus as I don't see many films like this out there.

• Polar Express

This movie was one of the first I remember seeing about Christmas and is about a boy who starts to doubt the whole Father Christmas thing until a polar express train passes by his house and takes him to the factories of the bearded gentleman, it is a movie that seeks to explain again the meaning of Christmas to those who doubt about its message, maybe the graphics don't do it any favours today but it is worth a watch.

• The Nightmare Before Christmas

For many this is a perfect movie that unites two of the festivities of the year, for me it is one of my favorite movies both for the theme, the music and the technique they use (stop motion) to make it happen, is a movie to which I have much affection and I never fail to see it every time they show it on TV, now that I have the HD version I have to include it in this list without a doubt.

The story is about the king of Halloween discovering Christmas in strange ways in his village, it explores the charm of the two holidays, which I quite like and in the end I don't know how it does it but it brings the two together and makes the theme of Christmas and Halloween work.

• Santa Clause

I think the only one of pure comedy on this list, but I remember laughing quite a bit at the fact that Santa died and therefore whoever killed this character became him and was doomed to carry on the operations of the previous one, it's pretty dark stuff if you think about it, but it's all comedy in this movie, it's very funny.

After the accident, those involved discover that Santa is carrying a set of instructions that states that, should anything happen to Santa, the person who finds him must put on his suit and assume the role of Father Christmas.

Es la epoca mas bonita del año, en donde hay cese a todos los fuegos y solo reina la paz y los regalos que compramos con nuestro dinero, en el pais donde vivo no cae nieve salvo en las montañas asi que para recordarnos de que es navidad tenemos las tradiciones y el regalarnos lo mas barato que podamos conseguir en el mercado de la esquina, o hacer maratones de peliculas.

Las peliculas navideñas son por sobre todo nostalgicas para mi, recuerdo que siempre en estas epocas estaban pasando algun maraton de peliculas y series de esas clasicas que hablaban de lo bonito que era la navidad asi como contando algunos cuentos navideños clasicos, incluso muchas de esas peliculas se han convertido en mis favoritas y estan en esta lista.

Basado en algunos de los cuentos mas populares de Dr Seuss recuerdo que las primeras veces que vi esta pelicula a mis escasos 7 años le tenia mucho miedo al personaje principal interpretado por Jim Carrey pero con el tiempo se ha convertido en mis peliculas mas divertidas de ver mientras estoy arropado en mi cama, es divertidisima de principio a fin incluso hoy.

El plan de El Grinch es arruinar la navidad secuestrando todos os regalos de los niños de un pueblo, con la ayuda de su fiel amigo un perrito, pero en el camino se encuentra con una niña que le enseña sobre lo que puede ser la navidad y que no tiene que estar solo en ella.

De los mas recientes cuentos navideños que ya en mis 20s me ha encantado, tanto por el mensaje que da como por lo genial que es la pelicula, tanto en el apartado tecnico como las tecnicas que usan para contar la historia de Santa como con la propia historia que se ha convertido en mi pelicula predilecta para enseñarle a mis futuros hijos y aprendan sobre lo que es la Navidad.

Es como una precuela de la navidad que sigue a un correista que tiene la mision junto con una maestra y un carpintero de cambiarle la vida a los habitantes de un pequeño pueblo, es una historia que es sencilla pero que para mi tiene un mensaje enorme, ademas de que es una pelicula española lo cual es un extra ya que no veo muchas peliculas como esta alla afuera.

• Expresso Polar

Esta pelicula fue una de las primeras que recuerdo haber visto sobre la navidad y trata sobre un niño que empieza a dudar sobre todo el tema de Santa Claus hasta que un tren del expreso polar se pasa por su casa y lo lleva hasta las fabricas del señor barbudo, es una pelicula que busca explicar nuevamente el significo de la navidad a aquellos que dudan sobre su mensaje, quiza los graficos no le favorezcan hoy pero vale la pena verla.

Para muchas esta es una pelicula perfecta que une a dos de las festividades del año, para mi es una de peliculas favoritas tanto por el tema, la musica y la tecnica que utilizan (stop motion) para hacerla realidad, es una pelicula a la cual le tengo mucho cariño y nunca fallo en verla cada vez que la pasan en la TV, ahora que tengo la version en HD tengo que incluirla en esta lista sin duda.

La historia relata al rey del Halloween descubriendo la navidad de formas extrañas en su pueblo, explora el encanto de las dos festividades, cosa que me gusta bastante y al final no se como hace pero une las dos y hace que funcione el tema de la Navidad con el Halloween.

Creo que la unica de comedia pura en esta lista, pero recuerdo que me reia bastante con el hecho de que muriese Santa y por consiguiente el que matase a este personaje se convirtiese en el y estuviese condenado a llevar las operaciones del anterior, es algo bastante oscuro si te pones a pensar, pero todo es comedia en esta pelicula, es muy divertida.

Después del accidente, los involucrados descubren que Santa está llevando un conjunto de instrucciones que indica que, en caso de que algo le suceda a Santa, la persona que lo encuentre debe ponerse su traje y asumir el rol de Santa Claus.
