District 9 - Refugee Aliens Meet Humans
I can say that I liked the movie District 9, which was released in 2009 with a story that touches on social issues such as racism, discrimination and prejudice.
Throughout its story, the movie deals with issues that society is sensitive to through alien and human characters. It is unlike any alien movie I have ever seen. It differs from other examples both in terms of story, processing and progression.
This time the aliens are not coming with their ships to invade or destroy the world. You can breathe a sigh of relief, it's not the end of the world yet. Of course, I'm being ironic. The aliens come to Earth as refugees because of the difficulties they face and because they are starving.
Of course, it is debatable how right it is to choose Earth as a refugee, even if it is fiction. The fact that they chose the wrong place makes its presence felt in many scenes of District 9. The social issues such as racism, discrimination and prejudice that I started writing about cause turmoil between aliens and humans.
From the beginning to the end of the movie, the aliens are constantly despised and insulted by being called names because of their appearance. I think even a very patient person cannot help but rebel against what is happening.
Throughout the movie District 9, we do to the aliens what we have been doing to each other as humans on Earth for years. I liked the story and the editing, but there were too many flaws in the way the story was handled. The movie starts off like a documentary, but when the action scenes come into play, the movie progresses well in terms of fluidity.
In the regions where the aliens who chose Earth as refugees are settled, they constantly have problems with humans and the armed conflicts they have with those representing the state were the biggest deficiency in the processing of the story, which I said I liked. When the asylum seekers get into such armed conflicts, the places they live in are destroyed by those in power, along with their inhabitants.
Another element I didn't like was the fact that the gangs were fighting on almost equal terms with those representing the state. It was strange that in the conflict scenes for the sake of owning the aliens, the gangs consisting of a few punks almost had the power to take over, because in the fiction, the state was still the powerful one.
Apart from the story, another thing I liked about the movie was that it was shot in a documentary style. Director Neill Blomkamp did a very good job of bringing more reality to the movie. Up to a certain point, the story is staged with audio and video narration and supported by interviews.
The visual effects are quite impressive. Scenes are not hidden in darkness. The scenes detailing the appearance and images of the aliens were successful. District 9 deserves praise for having its own unique theme, unlike the themes of classic sci-fi and alien movies.
I recommend watching the movie, which I think especially appeals to sci-fi lovers. While going on a fantastic journey, you will be preoccupied with people and their actions. Perhaps it is possible to attribute all this to human nature.
